Garena’s Free Fire is so much more than a battle royale

Popular mobile survival shooter, Free Fire, is elevating the gameplay experience for players through its map editor mode, Craftland. This colourful mode that was first introduced in 2021 offers players free rein in creating their own maps to battle with friends, as well as share their creativity with a global community of players.

While Free Fire is famed for its fast-paced gameplay based on survival elements, the game has evolved to become so much more than that since its launch in 2017. Free to play, and available on both Android and iOS, its player base has grown bigger and more passionate, with fans now accustomed to anticipating high-quality content and immersive experiences.

From in-game musical performances to collaborations with global icons, Free Fire has consistently delivered new and unique experiences, and the heart of the game remains one of self-expression. We’ll be taking a look at the ways Free Fire players can express their own style in the game, as well as exploring a couple of key features which Craftland offers.

With more than 40 characters to choose from, Free Fire opens up every second of gameplay to the creative spirit. You won’t find any bland warrior archetypes here – the characters of Free Fire are each brimming with personality, and bring their own special skills to the table. The roster includes a storm chaser, a falconer, several musicians, a police officer, a physicist, and even a competitive speed eater. Whatever your playstyle – and even if battle royales haven’t seemed appealing before – you’re bound to click with one of these fun yet relatable, larger-than-life personalities.

Once you’ve got your character sorted, you can even team up with an adorable pet. These friendly creatures each bring a specific skill, so whether you choose the axolotl, duckling, panda, penguin, or any of the others, you’ll have a powerful pal for backup.

Fashion Forward

Each of the characters already has their own distinct style, but fashion-conscious players can collect new skins and bundles that are regularly introduced to the game to level up their aesthetic. Free Fire also has frequent events and season passes which launch new wearable items. Earlier this year, the Squad BEATz event celebrated style and music as players were treated to a vibrant array of in-game costumes and even the debut of an exclusive song performed by Free Fire characters Alvaro, Notora, Shirou, and Kapella.

Crossovers

Free Fire has a history of creative crossovers, bringing other universes into its lore with special events and items. Money Heist, BTS, Assassin’s Creed, and most recently global superstar Justin Bieber have all been included in these events, allowing fans to customise their look with exclusive items and participate in time-limited modes and a myriad of activities.

Alongside these crossovers, Free Fire also offers fans regular servings of its own lore, with a deeper narrative that slowly unfolds through films, events, and creatively produced videos. In fact, the first animated video was released this year, on April 23, exploring some of the story behind the fan-favourite character, Hayato. As teased by the developer, players can also look forward to upcoming additions to its lore over time.  Free Fire’s first look at its lore through an animated film - How To Start A Fire

Craftland Creativity

The release of Craftland is the icing on the cake for many Free Fire fans, as it opens up a whole new gameplay experience. Designed intuitively for play and creation, it provides players the opportunity to discover preferred playstyles and game modes, either playing solo or with friends.

With Craftland, you’ll decide which game mode works best for your map – be it a traditional battle royale, a race, or a high-stakes deathmatch. Additional options such as game speed, number of rounds, prep time, and respawns can be tweaked – you can even edit the Danger Zone.

Once these details have been decided, it’s time to get crafty, building your map and adding weapons and equipment for incoming players. As long as you have a spawn point, you can pretty much build your map however you like, using various elements to define your ideal environment. The main building blocks of each map are made up of barriers, triggers, and interactives – some of which include notable objects such as enormous pipes and billboards featured in the community-made MarioRun map.

Free Fire fans have already flexed their creative muscles and developed a series of musical-themed maps, using piano keys and bass drums as triggers. Others have stuck to a more conventional route, while some have created entirely conflict-free zones, where players can challenge each other with parkour or speedruns.

Express Yourself

Craftland maps won’t just be limited to a small group of friends either as they can be shared with the community. Players will have the option to dive straight into other recommended player-created maps and try out the growing community offerings that stretch Free Fire to its creative limits. As Free Fire Craftland’s arsenal grows, players can look forward to an ever-expanding virtual canvas where play, creation, and social elements will all come together.
One of the key reasons players come back to Free Fire over and over is the sheer creative freedom and varied gameplay it offers. Between seasonal events, exclusive collaborations, in-game musical performances, new challenges, a variety of game modes, and an ever-growing list of customisable options, Free Fire is so much more than a battle royale. Try it for yourself on Android and iOS today.

Call of Duty Warzone Mobile game pre-registration spawns in

During the September 2022 Call of Duty Next event, we were treated to the news that Call of Duty Warzone Mobile pre-registration is finally open for Google Play, with Chris Plumber pointing towards a 2023 release window. That means it’s just a short time until the gun games can begin in a legitimate Call of Duty mobile title, anytime, any place – something some of you have been waiting a lifetime for.

So, with the Call of Duty Warzone Mobile pre-registrations now open, you can get ready to face the fury of Warzone’s massive online battles in the palms of your hands. Before revealing the start of sign-up, Chris Plummer was happy to share that the game will be playable with up to 120 players in the same map, pointing out that this number will be almost entirely bot free. As @NoisyButters said, this is big deal.

With Boneyard and TV Station returning you to some classic Call of Duty Warzone maps, Warzone Mobile is also bringing the visual hallmarks of the console series to its handheld hero simulator. There’s plenty of shiny new things too though, with progression now linked between multiple CoD games, and in-game exclusive events planned for the near future.

Where can I pre-register for Call of Duty Warzone Mobile?

You can hit this link to find your way over to the Call of Duty Warzone Mobile pre-register page. As stated on the official Call of Duty Twitter, pre-registering can also net you a multitude of exciting in-game rewards, so you’d better hop to it.  You can currently only pre-register on Google Play, but we’ll be sure to update this page if we see anything crop up on the App Store.

Apex Legends Mobile downloads reaches 21.8m in 30 days

Apex Legends Mobile is over a month old at this point, and thanks to our pals at MobileGamer.biz, we know just how well the game has done after its first 30 days on the market, and the current success of EA and Respawn’s mobile battle royale game is hardly surprising given how popular the mainline title is.

First up is the number of Apex Legends Mobile downloads for the first 30 days, which sits at 21.8 million – not bad for one month’s work. Especially when you consider that some players are verbal when it comes to the various Apex Legends mobile performance issues, though Respawn is on top of these, and promises to make some changes and fix the various problems.

Overall, the split between iOS and Android users is fairly even, though the latter has the edge with 11.5 million installs, while the former sits at 10.3 million downloads for the game’s first 30 days. As for the country Apex Legends Mobile is most popular in, the US is number one with 4.8 million installs, while Japan follows with 2.5 million.

What is Apex Legends Mobile revenue for its first month?

When it comes to revenue, Apex Legends Mobile hit $11.6 million in the first 30 days since its launch, with the most lucrative market being the US with $4.5 million, while Japan once again follows with $3.9 million.

Apex Legends Mobile hits almost $5m in revenue in its first week

It looks like Apex Legends Mobile has gotten off to a good start since launching on May 17. After becoming the most downloaded battle royale game on mobile in 60 different countries, it has also driven impressive player spending, reaching $4.8 million in revenue, according to Sensor Tower.

All this good Apex Legends Mobile revenue news comes in the midst of some unhappy players, with performance issues cropping up for some, while others have complained of “absurd microtransactions” affecting their experience. Still, all this drama didn’t stop the game from having a successful week of revenue.

For comparison, that revenue figure is way beyond the estimated  $600,000 that PUBG mobile hit in its first week, but only around a third of the $14.8m that Call of Duty: Mobile managed in its first week of launch back in 2019. If you’re thinking of having a look at Respawn’s portable offering, check out our Apex Legends Mobile download guide to get it on your device.

You can check out the Apex Legends Mobile launch trailer below if you’re interested in the new mobile title.

The best zombie games on Switch and mobile

Before I get started, can we all agree that zombies are cool? We can? Great. The horror genre is by far one of the most popular out there, and not just in games, but in all forms of media. There’s something about them that pulls people in, whether you’re into slashers, monsters, psychological thrills, supernatural spooks, or some other sub-genre. However, I challenge you to find a sub-category more popular than zombies.

For some reason, we’re all fascinated by them, and have been since, well, forever at this point. But, in terms of games, we have titles such as Resident Evil to thank for the prominent rise in zombie popularity. Not to mention few things are as satisfying as bashing these reanimated corpses in the head with a blunt object. So, with that in mind, we joined the walking dead, searching far and wide for the best zombie games on Switch and mobile.

If zombie-slaying action, or horror of any kind isn’t for you (we’re no longer friends), please make your way to the exit, where you can find lists full of unicorns, rainbows, and sunshine. Okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but our picks for the best Mario games, Disney games, and games like Stardew Valley are joyous and magical.

Without further ado, here’s our picks for the best zombie games on Switch and mobile.

The Best zombie games

Resident Evil mansion key art

Resident Evil – Switch

Yeah, we’re starting like that. You have this beloved yet grotesque franchise to thank for the popularity of survival horror and zombies. If it wasn’t for the horrifying, dilapidated, yet majestic mansion, you wouldn’t have the likes of The Evil Within, Outlast, Parasite, and Dead Space, the latter of which is essentially Resident Evil in space.

In Resident Evil, you’re a guest of the Spencer Mansion. Well, ‘guest’ might be stretching it, given you’re only here after a pack of zombified dogs chase you through the woods. Still, that alone should tell you what kind of ride you’re in for. There are puzzles to solve, items to find, a story to unravel, and, of course, many zombies to slay. The game has two campaigns, each one featuring Chris or Jill – two of the most famous protagonists in all of horror. I can’t recommend this one enough.

A guy being attacked by zombies on a sunny dayBuy it here

Dying Light – Switch

A virus has swept across Harran, and now you find yourself trapped there. Undead roam the streets by day, and despicable abominations are out at night. It truly is a zombie lover’s playground. The open world is a pleasure to explore, and wrought with dilapidated buildings, despicable creatures (and humans), and other perils, while featuring a story that tests your moral compass. Of course, in a world as harsh as this, we don’t blame you for any action you might take, but beware, there are consequences – some of which are so dire it makes a night outside in this rundown city seem like a trip to Disneyland.

Resident Evil 6 key artBuy it here

Resident Evil 6 – Switch

Oh Leon, how we miss you. Still, we can always visit the emo badass in Resident Evil 6. Yes, I’d normally suggest Resi 4 over number six any day, but this is a list about zombies, not deranged villagers (and, should I ever venture down that rabbit hole, I promise to put RE4 at the top of the list). Perhaps the best thing about RE6 is its multiple campaigns, all of which feature many zombies – not that this means all of the stories are fantastic. But, while the game isn’t so much survival horror as it is action, you can still enjoy eradicating the undead.

Since I’ve already mentioned two games in this franchise, I promise not to list any more here (though Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2 are fantastic). However, I will direct you to our list of the best Resident Evil games on Switch – it’s full of survival horror goodness.

Stubbs holding a man's headBuy it here

Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse – Switch

Come on now, no list about zombie games would be complete without giving a shoutout to good ‘ol Stubbs. I love this zombie, he’s just a misunderstood dude trying to live his best zombie life, and I’m here for it. In this zombtastic game, you don’t play as a strong-willed survivor that fights against the odds, you actually play as Stubbs the Zombie, and your primary objective is to kill humans and feast on their brains. Not only does this recover your health, but it can also turn your victim into a zombie.

If all that isn’t enough for you, how about the fact that Stubbs can drive vehicles? That’s right, it’s grand theft zombie y’all.

People trying to shut a door with zombies breaking in

The Walking Dead – mobile

Another game you must have known would pop up, Telltale’s The Walking Dead is a harrowing journey, with more than its fair share of heartbreaking moments, thanks to the ravenous zombies that roam the streets. However, given this series is all about choices, consequences, and its story, don’t expect too much zombie-slaying action. It’s more about avoiding the hordes, as you try to live another day.

The character you play as in the first game is Lee Everett, but this changes to your beloved sidekick Clementine in the sequels. For all intents and purposes, this is her story, and the choices you make across all titles in the series determines how the tale of this young girl ends.

A zombie in front of gameplay shots

Plants vs Zombies – mobile and Switch

A zombie game doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. It can be a colourful, fun, and a hilarious ride too, as proven by Plants vs Zombies. I love this series, so much so that I even have the plat on the original PS4 version, a feat I’m forever going to be proud of. The title says it all, you either play as plants or zombies, and set about to duke it out. Honestly, if you’re competitive, and enjoy online play, I can’t recommend this game enough. To the extent that I don’t care what platform you play it on – so long as you dive into the war for the neighbourhood, we’re all good here.

There you have it, the best zombie games on Switch and mobile. Now then, how about we head to the Winchester, grab a pint, and wait for all this to blow over with our lists of the best games like Dark Souls, games like Hades, and games like The Last of Us.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 is now live

Epic Games has finally launched the latest Fortnite season, with chapter 3 season 2 now live on consoles and PC. This latest season brings in some fairly big changes, and a few surprising guest characters join the battle pass as well, though we’re definitely sad to see the loss of the Spider-Man web shooters from the previous season, as swinging around the map was just awesome.

The biggest change off the bat in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 is that building has been taken out of the main modes. Without cover, you now have the ability to use an ‘overshield’ which will be your first line of defence. On top of this, there are some new changes to movement, as your base running speed has been increased, and you also now have the ability to sprint. This comes with a sprint meter, as you can’t run forever, and you also can’t use weapons while sprinting.

Next, this season adds mantling, meaning if your character comes up to a platform just slightly out of reach when jumping, they can use their hands to pull themselves up. Finally, you can now open doors by sprinting into them and performing a shoulder bash. You can even open doors by sliding into them as well, so Epic has really improved movement has for this latest season.

You can watch the launch trailer below to see all the latest changes in action, as well as get to grips with the new cast of characters you will unlock with the battle pass.

WHO’S IN THE FORTNITE CHAPTER 3 SEASON 2 BATTLE PASS?

The biggest addition to the character roster in Fortnite chapter 3 season 2 is the sorcerer supreme himself, Doctor Strange, who’s available as part of the battle pass. Later on this season, Spider-Man villain The Prowler is also set to become available through the regular battle pass.

While you wait to grab your next victory royale, why not check out our great guides for Fortnite creative codes, the best games like Fortnite on iOS, and the best Fortnite skins.

Garena Free Fire’s new character ‘Chrono’ is Cristiano Ronaldo

After a week of teases, Garena has now revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is coming to Free Fire as a new playable character called ‘Chrono’. He’s set to arrive as part of the game’s latest campaign, ‘Operation Chrono’, which takes us to a dystopian “slum universe” featuring advanced tech aplenty and no shortage of intrigue.

Specific details on how exactly Chrono will play remain a little light, though we do know that more info will arrive soon enough. Operation Chrono is currently expected to kick off on December 19.

This is easily among Garena Free Fire’s biggest collaborations to date, which is really saying something considering that we’ve seen crossovers with Netflix’s Money Heist, DJ Alok, The Night Comes for Us star Joe Taslim, and many more. Clearly, Chrono is joining an already impressive roster of Garena Free Fire characters.

Ronaldo himself teases “tons of new features and elements” for Operation Chrono. “It’s a great feeling having not only a character in Free Fire modelled after me, but also having the whole universe within the game changing along with it,” he shares.

If you’re looking to prepare for this new update, we’ve got all the tips you need to start earning those all-important Garena Free Fire diamonds. We’re just nice like that.

Garena Free Fire is going futuristic with ‘Operation Chrono’ its upcoming character collaboration

Garena has teased its upcoming campaign for Free Fire. While we don’t know much, we do know that ‘Operation Chrono’ takes place in a ‘futuristic slum universe’ with advanced technology and sci-fi stylings. We also know that the campaign setup involves a hero rising to prominence as a source of inspiration. If previous campaigns are anything to go by, it’s likely that this character is going to modelled around Free Fire’s new partner for Operation Chrono.

Garena hasn’t announced who it is, yet, but is set to release some teasers on the official Free Fire YouTube and Facebook accounts in the next few days, before the official announcement rolls around on December 7. Either way, Operation Chrono is a bit of a departure for Free Fire, and it’ll be exciting to see what it does with a sci-fi setting, and potential futuristic weaponry.

For those that don’t know, Garena Free Fire is a hugely popular battle royale game, which sees you pick a character and face off against 49 other players. The game is also well known for its popular character collaborations with real world celebrities.

If you want to see some of the game for yourself, check out the trailer below:

Free Fire has also previously run collaborations with DJ KSHMR, Jai, DJ ALOK, and even the Netflix show, Money Heist.

If you want to play Garena Free Fire for yourself, you can find it on Google Play and the App Store. For more similar recommendations, check out our list of the best mobile multiplayer games!

Doom Eternal finally launches December 8 on Nintendo Switch

Bethesda has announced that it’s finally bringing Doom Eternal to Nintendo Switch on December 8, and it’s about bloody time (get it?). The critically acclaimed shooter arrives courtesy of Panic Button, the creator of many impossible Switch ports, including the original Doom, both Wolfensteins, and Warframe. Suffice to say, it should prove suitably impressive.

As you can expect, it also arrives with motion aiming, allowing you to use gyro controls to fine-tune your aim. Aside from that, this is the true Doom Eternal experience, complete with the lengthy single player experience, wide variety of weapons (including the Assassin’s Creed-style wrist-mounted blade) and abilities, and that sweet multiplayer experience.

This time around, the latter features the new Battlemode, err, mode, which pits one player, as a fully-armed Doom Slayer, against two demons, which you, the players, control. It’s a best-of-five battle to the death. And you can do all of the above a lot sooner than you might have first thought, when Doom Eternal arrives on Nintendo Switch as both a physical and digital release on December 8.

Here’s a taste of the shooter in action:

You can also learn more about the upcoming Switch port by reading this post on the official site.

If you’re sold, you can pre-order Doom Eternal on Amazon UK (US is not live as of yet) via the link below. Happy slaying.
