Pascals Wager’s Tides of Oblivion washes up on Android and iOS today

Tipsworks has released the newest expansion for Pascal’s Wager. Tides of Oblivion has been anticipated for a fair while, and brings the Action-RPG to a brand new aquatic setting – Ichthyosauria. Though a mouthful of sea water to say, the new setting adds fresh enemies, characters, and new adventures for the player, as they sound the depths of Ichthyosauria and dredge up its secrets for themselves.

The actual setup of Tides of Oblivion is fairly simple – Jerold, a familiar friend, asks Terence to team up with him to travel to the land of Ichthyosauria, and find a way to save it. Jerold is also the new playable character, and if the trailer is anything to go by, he seems to be a duelist who wields a rapier, with a courtly manner of fighting.

For those that don’t know Pascal’s Wager, it’s basically mobile’s answer to Dark Souls, channeling influences from the FromSoftware series to create an outstanding mobile Action-RPG – just read our Pascal’s Wager review if you don’t believe us! The new setting of Ichthyosauria gives off some serious fishing hamlet vibes from Bloodborne’s Old Hunter DLC, which we’re always happy to see.

You can watch the trailer for Tides of Oblivion below, which features a little gameplay, and some suitably ominous narration:

If you want to pick up Pascal’s Wager, you can find it on Google Play and the App Store, and Tides of Oblivion is purchasable in-game. Either that, or enter our current Pascal’s Wager giveaway, where we’re offering both a code for the base game, and Tides of Oblivion.

Apple and Google kick Fortnite off mobile

Fortnite is no longer available to download from the App Store and Google Play following Epic’s latest update, which featured a workaround where you could pay less for V-bucks by avoiding the 30% cut both mobile game stores take whenever you make a purchase. Epic appears to have expected this reaction, as it has also launched a lawsuit against Apple.

“Apple has become what it once railed against: the behemoth seeking to control markets, block competition, and stifle innovation,” says the injunction. “Apple is bigger, more powerful, more entrenched, and more pernicious than the monopolists of yesteryear. At a market cap of nearly $2 trillion, Apple’s size and reach far exceeds that of any technology monopolist in history.”

The injunction refers to the 1984 Apple commercial, where the Macintosh is the revolutionary force breaking IBM’s monopoly over the computing market. Using an in-game Fornite parody of the famous advert, Epic suggests that Apple has become what it once vowed to stop – a monopoly, using anti-competitive restraints to choke the market.

If you’ve never seen the original Macintosh Super Bowl advert, you can find it on YouTube. We recommend watching the original first before you check out Fortnite’s parody below.

Epic’s lawsuit explains that it’s not seeking financial compensation or favourable treatment by suing the multi-trillion-dollar conglomerate. Instead, Epic is seeking to relieve what they refer to as the ‘monopoly’ that Apple has over the iOS app distribution market, and the in-app payment processing market.

It’s not clear what the result of the injunction will be, or how long we will have to wait before we see Fortnite readily available on all smartphones again.

The Pathless gets a new gameplay trailer ahead of its Apple Arcade release

The Pathless is a mythical open-world adventure game coming to the Apple Arcade later this year. Developed by Giant Squid and published by Annapurna Interactive,  The Pathless takes place in a mystical land, invaded by cursed spirits. It’s up to you, an acrobatic huntress, and your incredibly well-trained eagle to bring light back to the world.

The game gives you a vast map to explore, riddled with secrets and puzzles, not to mention, the cursed spirits that are determined to stop you in your tracks. It’s not too often that a six-minute trailer narrated by a creative director gets us so excited, but The Pathless is an outstanding exception.

The lengthy gameplay walkthrough shows off a lot of cool mechanics and adorable features, such as needing to pet your eagle to keep him clean and flying true. Besides, the track record of Annapurna Interactive alone should trigger any mobile gamers inner curiosity. If you’re looking for a game to get excited about, The Pathless could be it.

Judging by the trailer, the map is navigable quickly by sliding, jumping, and flying on the back of your eagle. Once more, a timing system supercedes the traditional way of aiming down sight, making it more important than ever to hone your archery skills:

The Pathless release date is yet to be confirmed, but we know it’s launching sometime this year, and is coming to iOS via the Apple Arcade, as well as Microsoft Windows, Macintosh operating systems, and both Playstation 5 and 4. So there are multiple ways for our Android friends to get their hands on this fantastic open-world adventure.

Hyena Squad is the latest turn-based strategy game by Wave Light Games

Wave Light Games, the developer of Demon’s Rise and Shieldwall Chronicles, has confirmed its next title, Hyena Squad, will launch on the App Store on September 9. Hyena Squad is a turn-based RPG similar to XCOM.

Hyena Squad takes place in deep space, onboard an alien space station. It’s your job to infiltrate the station and rescue a VIP inmate with your team of mercenaries. You can choose from four different types of mercenary: armoured melee specialists, heavy gunners, elusive scouts, and mysterious psychics. Once you select your team, you must lead the assault, taking into account the environment, your characters’ line of sights, morale, and more.

Hyena Squad builds on Wave Light Games’s previous RPGs by adding additional features for you to enjoy. There are 12 levels to master, each with different objectives like hostage rescue, escort to the safe zone, and various bosses. The environments in Hyena Squad are destructible, with fuel canisters and hazardous tanks to blow up. Your squad and the aliens you fight both have active and passive abilities, where you can inspire or confuse units, increasing the tactical tools at your disposal.

Hyena Squad will release this September on the App Store, where you can pre-order a copy for $1.99/£1.99. The game offers you a premium experience with no adverts, in-app purchases, or online requirements.

If Hyena Squad sounds like the RPG for you, then check out the trailer below.

Garena releases new Free Fire Sushi Menace elite pass

Garena has announced that the latest elite pass for Garena Free Fire is sushi-themed. Sushi Menace brings the world-famous Free Fire series into a quaint little sushi restaurant somewhere in Japan. Although, this is no ordinary sushi shack. It is the neutral meeting ground of two former warring mafia factions, where the fate of this dinner will decide if the partnership continues, or if the factions return to war.

The Sushi Menace elite pass introduces Taku and Shiori, the owners and chefs of the House of Knives. These martial arts experts don’t just know their way around a California roll; they are weapon masters in their own right, with Shiori specialising in pistols and knives, and Taku preferring katanas and rifles.

The owners of the House of Knives take on a comic book-like lifestyle, working days at their sushi restaurant, and nights as the Sushi Menace, a bounty hunting group. The elite pass doesn’t just put sushi on the menu though. There are a load of skins and backpacks, some of which include special effects.

There are plenty of juicy rewards for you to get your hands on in the Sushi Menace elite pass. We’ve listed a few examples of the sushi themed rewards below:

  • Sashimi slasher bundle skin (male)
  • Ramen slayer bundle skin (female)
  • Sashimi boat backpack skin
  • Salmon surfer skin
  • Sushi Menace grenade skin
