The Dawning

“The Traveler is awake. For Humanity, a new Golden Age has begun. This year’s Dawning is unlike any other—it’s not just the renewal that a new year brings, but the dawn of something greater. Now more than ever, we must gather together in the Tower, at the Farm, and all across the system to give thanks. Our Light has returned—and it illuminates everything around us.”
—Ikora Rey, Warlock Vanguard
Happy Dawning to All
It may be cold outside, but there’s a warmth in the air. As the year comes to an end, the Tower and Farm are decorated with festive cheer. It’s a time to celebrate your Light.
Snowball Fights
Guardians aren’t just arming themselves with weapons. There are snowball piles everywhere you look. In the Tower and at the Farm, you can tag your friends for bragging rights. In Strikes, you can blast an enemy with a snowball to stun them and deal big damage. Stay frosty out there.
Mayhem in the Cold
Keep your blood warm and your heart pumping in the Crucible. Mayhem is back, so your abilities recharge faster. Point values are cranked up enough to melt the ice. It’s anarchy—and it’s awesome.
Milestones of Winter
Engage in Crucible Mayhem or become legend in Strikes and you’ll be rewarded. Every week, complete a milestone for a Dawning engram. Get in the giving mood with new consumables that give rewards to everyone you’re playing with. If there’s a specific Dawning item that you have your heart set on, Tess will refresh her inventory each week, enabling you to use your Bright Dust reserves for your holiday shopping. On one week or another during the three-week event, you’ll find every Dawning-themed exotic (ship, ghost, sparrow, emote) and every Dawning-themed legendary armor piece on her shelves.
Gifting and Receiving
Pick up a Dawning Gift Schematic from the Bazaar. Venture to other worlds and craft a unique gift for the vendors and agents you find in the Tower and beyond. Then, give the lucky recipient their gift and receive a gift in return. You can participate in the season of giving every day of the event.
The Dawning begins on Tuesday, December 19.
The Dawning ends on Tuesday, January 9.
Let’s usher in a new year, and a new Golden Age together.

Crytek sues Star Citizen devs for copyright infringement, breach of contract
Crytek has filed a lawsuit against Star Citizen developers Cloud Imperium Games and Roberts Space Industries, accusing the development duo of both breach of contract and copyright infringement.
The complaint stems from a number of incidents surrounding the development of Star Citizen, the developers’ in-development online space exploration game. Star Citizen hit Kickstarter in 2012, raising a record $2.1 million during that campaign. Since, the game has raised a total of $173 million through crowdfunding.
While the game was originally developed using Crytek’s CryEngine, CIG and RSI swapped development over to Amazon’s Lumberyard engine in December 2016, which itself was built around an earlier version of CryEngine but developed with online games in mind.
That 2016 switch from CryEngine to Lumberyard is where the bulk of Crytek’s allegations stem from since, according to the court filings, the game license agreement signed between Crytek and the Star Citizen developers required exclusive use of CryEngine for the game’s development.
Among other things, that game license agreement required CIG and RSI to “prominently display Crytek’s trademarks and copyrights notices” in Star Citizen and associated marketing and use Star Citizen‘s development to provide bug fixes and optimizations to CryEngine on an annual basis, while barring them using CryEngine in a standalone, non-Star Citizen game and from sharing CryEngine source code with third parties.
Between the jump to Lumberyard, the announcement of the now-delayed standalone game Squadron 42, and creation of the ‘Bugsmashers’ video series involving Star Citizen‘s development, Crytek alleges CIG and RSI violated all of those previously mentioned terms.
As such, Crytek is now seeking damages from the two developers, including direct damages that it estimates are in excess of $75,000 in addition to assorted indirect, consequential, and special damages as well. Additionally, Crytek is seeking an injunction against CIG and RSI that would prevent the developers from using, possessing, or infringing on Crytek’s copyrights.
UPDATE: A Cloud Imperium Games rep has responded with the following statement to Gamasutra: “We are aware of the Crytek complaint having been filed in the US District Court. CIG hasn’t used the CryEngine for quite some time since we switched to Amazon’s Lumberyard. This is a meritless lawsuit that we will defend vigorously against, including recovering from Crytek any costs incurred in this matter.”

The Coma: Recut To Bring Korean Survival Horror To Switch Next Week
The Switch eShop continues its rapid pace of releases next week with The Coma: Recut, which is a manhwa-styled Korean survival horror and a remastered version of the indie cult classic, The Coma: Cutting Class which is also developed by Devespresso Games.
In the game you play as Youngho, a hapless Korean student who, after drifting asleep during his final exam, wakes to find himself trapped in a twisted version of his school, Sehwa High. And he’s not alone. Relentlessly pursued by a psychotic killer, Youngho must evade his hunter while desperately searching for a way to escape the dread-filled corridors and classrooms.
Here are some of the key features in this game:
• A remastered version of indie cult classic The Coma: Cutting Class, the game has been rebalanced and ‘recut’ with new and updated animations, mechanics, cutscenes and art • Hide: Crouch in the darkness or cower in a closet to stay out of sight and evade the killer • Survive: Use your flashlight to search for useful items, but be warned –it can attract unwanted attention • Mystery: Discover notes and clues to uncover the twisted history of Sehwa High’s students and teachers • Death: Beware the horrors lurking in the dark, lest you bleed out in some forgotten classroom… • The cast of characters and creepy corridors of Sehwa High are brought to life in a hand-illustrated manhwa art style • Inspired by the real-world plight of Korea’s overworked high school students
Do you plan to pick up this Korean survival-horror game for Switch when it launches next week on the 21st?

Try the new Minecraft: Java Edition Textures

From today, you can click this green text here to download a new texture pack for Minecraft! This texture pack is designed to work in 1.12, so make sure you’re using it with that version and then you’re good to go! Actually, hang on… New textures? In my beloved Minecraft? WHAT HERESY IS THIS??
Following months of previews shared by Jasper, a preview of the new Minecraft textures are now available!
For the last few months our talented pixel artists have been tweaking Minecraft’s looks, updating the appearance of the game for sparkly 2017 eyes. But these aren’t changes we’re making lightly – we want your feedback before we even consider adding them to the game.
This is why we want you to download this texture pack and then tell us what you think. Has the skeleton never looked better? Does the lovely new look of the leaf block make you want to dance and sing? Or maybe the new cobblestone has kept you up for six straight days weeping? Let us know!

Here’s how you can install it in Minecraft Java!
- Click this line of snazzy [blue] text to download the texture pack. Easy! You’ll now have a .zip file.
- Copy that .zip file.
- Open Minecraft: Java Edition
- On the main menu, select Options and then Resource Packs.
- Select Open Resource Pack Folder.
- This will open that folder. Now just paste the .zip file you copied earlier into this folder.
- Once it’s finished pasting, close the folder and go back to Minecraft.
- Under Resource Packs, you’ll see a list of Available Resource Packs. Your new texture pack should now be on this list! Select it and you’re done!
Still not working? Try this link for step-by-step instructions for different devices.
There are a couple of ways to get feedback on these textures to us. First, you can click this green text to be taken to our feedback site. We’ve also set up a Reddit post where you can leave feedback. Remember, the texture pack is designed to work in 1.12.
