For those of you who have been waiting to install custom ROM on your Verizon Galaxy S4 with ME7, ME7, MI1, MJ7, or MK2 firmware or AT&T Galaxy S4 with MF3, MK2, NB1, or NC1 firmware, there’s finally a new method using SafeStrap Recovery by XDA user Hashcode.
SafeStrap Recovery is usually used on Motorola devices but it is now implemented on Verizon and AT&T Galaxy S4 to get around Verizon’s lock on the bootloader.
First, you will need to root your Galaxy S4, so follow the Verizon Galaxy S4 ME7 root method before beginning this tutorial if you have Verizon S4 and follow the AT&T Galaxy S4 MF3 root method if you have AT&T S4. (This is for Android 4.2.2 ONLY, for Android 4.4.2 see below!)
Root Your Device here: http://adf.ly/1AR46H
Step 1. Download the Verizon custom ROM or AT&T custom ROM you want to install on your Galaxy S4 and copy to either internal or external storage on your phone.
Step 2. Download latest version of SafeStrap from XDA:

NOTE: CURRENTLY THERE IS AN UNKNOWN ISSUE WHERE IF YOU HAVE ENCRYPTION ENABLED AND INSTALL SS IT BOOTLOOPS. IF YOU FIT THIS DESCRIPTION PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM SAFESTRAP FOR NOW.

Step 3. Open and Install Safestrap APK file using My Files app.
Step 4. Open Safestrap app and choose “Install Recovery” then “Reboot to Recovery”.
Step 5. Choose “Boot Options”.
Step 6. Choose “ROM-Slot-1″. You will notice you can create up to four different ROM slots. Yes, you can have 4 different custom ROMs installed if you want.
UPDATE: I no longer recommend using ROM slots as some ROMs are not compatible with ROM slots, just use Stock ROM slot after making a backup ROM!
Step 7. Choose your data partition size and choose “Create ROM slot”.
Step 8. When done, go back to main menu and choose “Wipe”.
Step 9. Swipe to do a factory reset.
Step 10. This is IMPORTANT! If you get “Unable to mount internal storage” error, you need to reboot recovery. If you don’t get that error, skip to Step 14.
Step 11. Choose “Reboot” and “System”.
Step 12. When rebooting, hit the Menu button when you see the Safestrap menu during boot. That will enter you back into Safestrap Recovery.
Step 13. Try wiping again, this time you should just get “Updating partition details”.
Step 14. Next, choose “Install” and find the ROM zip file you want to install and install it.
Step 15. When done installing ROM, reboot and you should see your new custom ROM booted! That’s it!
Anytime you want to revert back to stock ROM, it’s easy to do. Just reboot into recovery (hit Menu button during boot when you see Safestrap Recovery menu) and select Stock ROM under Boot Options.
and there you are. Free ROMS for you Galaxy S4!

For those of you who want to root your AT&T SGH-i337 Galaxy S4, Verizon SCH-i545 Galaxy S4, or Galaxy S4 Active on Android 4.4.2, there’s finally a new root method that will root your S4. This root method also works on all Galaxy S4 models and does NOT trip Knox!
Towelroot also works on many other Android devices including Galaxy S3, Note 2, and most Samsung Galaxy devices. Towelroot is very safe to try so give it a try even if you don’t have Galaxy S4.
So, here’s how to do it, you do not need a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer!
After rooting, you can use SafeStrap Recovery to install custom ROMs!
Step 1. Make sure you have Android 4.4.2 in Settings->About phone.
Step 2. Open up a browser on your Galaxy S4 and go to TowelRoot.com. Press on the Lamda sign and it will download an APK file.
Step 3. Click on the APK file you just downloaded.
Step 4. Hit “Settings”.
Step 5. Hit “Unknown Sources”.
Step 6. Press “OK”.
Step 7. Press “Install” to install the towelroot app
Step 8. Ignore the Google warning and press “Install anyway”.
Step 9. Press “OK” to open the Towelroot app.
Step 10. Press “make it ra1n”. Wait about 30 seconds and if your phone doesn’t reboot, try pressing “make it ra1n” again. If you see a force-close window, try force closing it by hitting “OK”. Your Galaxy S4 should have rebooted.
Step 11. Once rebooted, download the Superuser APK file and open it with MyFiles app. (Do not download from Play Store as the version is not the latest version!)

Step 12. Press “Settings”.
Step 13. Press “Unknown sources”.
Step 14. Pres “OK”.
Step 15. Press on “Install”.
Step 16. Hit “Open” to open the SuperSU app.
Step 17. Press on “Continue”.
Step 18. Press “Normal”.
Step 19. You will also get a message to disable/remove KNOX, make sure you hit “OK” as that will remove all KNOX apps which will interfere with your root if you don’t do it. (KNOX is an unnecessary, useless security app you DO NOT NEED, only interferes with root.)
Step 20. Now your Galaxy S4 should be fully rooted, go ahead and download any rooted app like Titanium Backup app and you should see SuperUser pop-up window like seen below.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully rooted your Galaxy S4 on Android 4.4.2!
Next steps? If you want to install custom ROMs or backup/restore ROM, see How to Install Safestrap on Galaxy S4!

FAQ
Q: Can I remove root later easily?
A: Yes, you can remove root easily in 1-click using SuperSU app, see this video tutorial.
Q: How can I thank you for your tutorial?
A: I don’t take donations but if you could PLEASE subscribe to my Zedomax YouTube channel, that would help me greatly and thank you!

NVIDIA's graphics chip GTX 970 was released in September last year with an announced 4GB of performance-boosting VRAM. Since then, avid gamers world wide have been happy with their purchase, but some found the chip not to perform as expected. They have reported that it fails to keep up if more than 3,5GB of the 4GB is needed, causing stutters or drops in fps. The company recently addressed the complaints and admitted that the issues with performance are caused by the way the memory for the GTX 970 is designed. When asked about a fix for the problem, this is NVIDIA's response:
![[Image: 0Si5NZf.png?1]](http://i.imgur.com/0Si5NZf.png?1)
The PC gaming community has been rustling their feathers, over at the GeForce website there is a discussion going for over 360 pages, and a petition on Change.org has gathered 9000 signatures in order to force NVIDIA to cough up a refund, or at least do something to improve the flaws of their product. Due to NVIDIA's reluctance to do anything for unhappy owners of the GTX 970's, they are now getting sued. The lawsuit is lead by Andrew Ostrowski on behalf of everyone in the same situation:
"This is a nationwide class action brought on behalf of all consumers who purchased graphics or video card devices incorporating the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 graphics processing units, which were sold based on the misleading representation that the GTX 970 operates with a full 4GB of VRAM at GDDR5 (not a less performant 3.5 GB with a less performant and decoupled .5 GB spillover), 64 ROPs (as opposed to 56 ROPs), and an L2 cache capacity of 2048KB (as opposed to 1792 KB), or omitted material facts to the contrary."
So in simple text, the lawsuit is telling us that NVIDIA advertised a product promising a certain performance, and then failed to inform that the design they went with won't be able to cope. For most people, the extreme specs aren't really needed for either normal use or gameplay, but that is besides the point. If you are told your new car can do 180 Mph, you'd be pretty annoyed if you one day take it to the race track and it maxes out on 150. It's not that you really need it to be that fast on a daily basis, but at the end of the day, that is what you paid for.
If you are interested in all the numbers and details considering the GTX 970 and the reason why it fails to perform as advertised, this article will guide you through all the juicy facts. Getting your money back without waiting for the result of the lawsuit is possible for Amazon and Newegg customers, as they are dishing out refunds already. But smaller companies are still hesitant to do so, as there is no official recall. So it looks like some unhappy customers might have to wait. Oh, and just so you know, the competition is ready to snatch a few new customers:

Will you be looking to get a refund? Will this make you think twice before buying from this company, or do you still trust them to give you enough bang for your buck?
