News - Madden NFL Video Game Documentary Announced By Prime Video
Prime Video has revealed it's working on a documentary series about one of the biggest sports video game franchises ever: Madden NFL. The untitled show on Amazon's streaming service will consist of four parts, covering the beginnings of John Madden Football in the late 1980s and going up to presumably this year's upcoming Madden NFL release (which hasn't been unveiled yet). This Madden NFL documentary will feature "rare and never-been-seen before footage," according to Prime Video. The four-part series will detail how the football franchise "almost never happened" at EA Sports. It's also promising to show how the developer "finishes the next generation of the game." The Madden franchise started in 1988 with John Madden Football, with the latest release coming out last year as Madden NFL 24. The namesake for the series is John Madden, a legendary coach and broadcaster for the NFL. He died at the age of 85 in late 2021, which led to EA Sports honoring his legacy as the cover star for Madden NFL 23. News - Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Starts Strong, Biggest For 20th Century Sin
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes opened in theaters this past weekend and it had a strong start. The movie made $56.5 million in North America for the Friday-Sunday period. It made $72.5 million from international markets. Combined, the film opened globally with $129 million. For the domestic numbers specifically, $56.5 million is the second-best start of the new Apes series, trailing only Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ($72.6 million). It's also the best start ever for director Wes Ball, who previously made the Maze Runner movies. What's more, it's the biggest opening for movie studio 20th Century since Avatar: The Way of Water premiered in December 2022 (via Fandango's Erik Davis). Following its breakout from this year's Sundance Film Festival, the nonagenarian action comedy Thelma, starring Oscar nominee June Squibb (Nebraska) and the late Richard Roundtree (Shaft) is heading to theaters on June 21. The feature marks the directorial debut of Josh Margolin, who also wrote the film has Squibb as the titular Thelma, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (Fred Hechinger). The film follows Thelma and her family attempting to get her money back. Check out the trailer below. News - Switch 2 Shouldn't Be Impacted By Any Chip Shortages, Nintendo Says
New details have emerged on Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console, following the company officially confirming that it was in development. During a briefing for the financial year ending on March 31, 2024, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa briefly touched on several topics regarding the upcoming games system. Several times in the briefing, Furukawa spoke about the "successor to the Nintendo Switch," suggesting that the new device will build on the foundation established by the Switch console. "At this stage, we cannot say anything more about the successor to Nintendo Switch," Furukawa said when asked why that term was used specifically. "For today's announcement, we determined that the most appropriate expression to use was 'successor to Nintendo Switch.'
