Sealed Copy Of Super Mario Bros. 3 Sells For $156,000
Earlier this year in July, a sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. for NES sold for $114,000 USD. It set a new record for the most expensive video game ever sold. While most probably expected it to hold this record for some time, the highest price paid for a video game at auction has now been broken (again).
Heritage Auctions revealed it sold a sealed copy of the 1990 NES game Super Mario Bros. 3 on Friday for $156,000.
“The lot opened bidding at $62,500 – already an impressive sum for the game graded Wata 9.2 A+. But 20 bidders got in the game, sending the final price soaring toward the world record during what would become the world’s first-ever million-dollar video-game auction.”
Heritage Auctions’ director of video games, Valarie McLeckie, said the it was “no surprise” that another Mario game had set a new world record. This particular copy of the game is described as being in “remarkable” condition, but here’s what sets it apart from the rest:
“what makes this copy even more singular is the layout of the packaging itself: Exceedingly rare are sealed copies with the word “Bros.” formatted to the left, covering one of Mario’s signature white gloves. Collectors have spent years looking for such a version – the earliest in the Super Mario Bros. 3 production history – and usually come up empty-handed.”
So, there you go – another record-breaking sale. Of course, if you would like to relive Super Mario Bros. 3 yourself, you can always check it out on Nintendo’s Switch Online NES service.
With the weekend now finally upon us, though, it’s time to discuss our weekend gaming plans. Members of Nintendo Life have done just that, and we’d love for you to join in via our comment section below. Enjoy!

After spending many hours with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity over the past week or two, I’ll be looking for something a touch calmer to soothe my raw hack-and-slashed finger joints. It’s been a while since I last tended to my Animal Crossing island, so the new winter update gives me a good excuse to go back in and see how things are going.
Otherwise, I’ve still got Horace, Control and A Short Hike calling me from my home menu screen, not to mention more Koroks to find and the spectre of GOTY 2020 creeping up. Plenty to do, then!

Hello. This weekend I’m gonna be busy digging into some classic real-time tactical action with Commandos 2 HD and getting my big daft Keanu Reeves on in John Wick Hex, both of which release at the start of December, so look out for those reviews coming soon. Elsewhere, I’ll be jumping right into the mix with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a game I’ve been hugely excited about since its announcement. Musou games may be a love/hate thing in general but I am 100% on the love side of the fence with this genre and, after pumping way too much of my time into the original 2014 Hyrule Warriors, I can see some late nights ahead with this one. Have a good weekend whatever you’re playing and stay safe out there!

This weekend, I’ll be digging further into Pikmin 3 Deluxe, and also possibly… possibly… doing a bit of time-traveling to check out the new updates in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Just possibly, not for sure. It’s just so tempting, all of the holiday items! Many people are putting their Christmas trees up already, because 2020… time-traveling to Toy Day in Animal Crossing is pretty much the same concept, right??

Continuing my streak of playing old, slightly obscure Pokémon games, I’ve been getting stuck into PokéPark Wii: Pikachu’s Adventure over the past few days. Who needs next-gen, huh?
Actually, saying that, I’ve also treated myself to Nintendo’s next-gen Game & Watch and have been having a ball with it. I’ve never owned a Game & Watch system before, but I’m finding that there’s something very satisfying about playing something so simple. Sitting down for a long session with an RPG or whatever can feel overwhelming, but loading up Ball for a 20-minute run is just what I needed.
My game of the week is unsurprisingly Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity that, at the time of writing, I do not have in my hands because my country is already deep into full Christmas, something that translates with “nothing is certain of arriving on schedule any more”… if it arrives at all!

This weekend, I plan on dipping back into Animal Crossing: New Horizons and seeing what’s what (I’ve no doubt got a load of weeds to pull up!), although I have to say, it’s definitely not pulling me in as much as it used to! Hopefully the new update will get its hooks into me.
Otherwise, I may jump back into Super Mario 3D All-Stars and box off Super Mario Galaxy; I’ve already rinsed the other two games, and I’m not too far off whacking Bowser into the infinite abyss of space. Just like the good old days… Have a great weekend, everyone!
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave us a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days…

Eiji Aonuma Talks About The Possibility Of More Legend Of Zelda Spin-Offs
Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma was recently asked in interview with IGN if Nintendo was looking to pump out even more Legend of Zelda spin-offs between the series’ mainline releases.
Aonuma said it’s really an ‘idea-first’ approach and explained how a bunch of circumstances need to line up before a project like this is even considered.
“we’re always looking for valuable creative projects, but those only come about when several different conditions align. So, I think it’s hard for us to have conscious control over the frequency.”
In the case of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Aonuma thinks circumstances could “align like this” again, but doesn’t expect it to become a series as such – reinforcing the fact any decisions are based on creative merits.
“We’d make that decision based on its creative merits, just like we did this time.”
Would you like to see even more Zelda spin-offs, or perhaps Hyrule Warriors transformed into a proper series somehow? Leave a comment down below.
Grab Luigi's Mansion 3 (Switch) For $30 On Black Friday
Black Friday 2020 is nearly here, and retailers around the US have already begun outlining their big Black Friday sales. As always, there will be plenty of great gaming deals on offer next week, including quite a few on first-party Nintendo Switch titles like Luigi's Mansion 3, which is getting a nice price drop at Walmart for the big shopping day.
The best deal we've seen on Luigi's Mansion 3 will be available at Walmart. The retail giant is dropping the game's price to $30--the lowest we've ever seen it go. That sale price goes live on November 25. That's not your only option for picking Luigi's Mansion 3 up next week, however. Although their sale prices aren't as good as Walmart's, both Best Buy and GameStop will have the game for $40.
Luigi's Mansion 3 is the cowardly plumber's third solo adventure. This time around, he must brave the various floors of a haunted hotel to rescue his abducted friends from King Boo. Like previous games in the series, Luigi spends the journey armed with a vacuum called the Poltergust, which he must use to suck up ghosts, explore the environment, and solve puzzles. In addition to the main campaign, the game also features online and local multiplayer modes, both of which received two paid DLC packs earlier this year.

Nintendo’s Official Online Magazine Gets A New Winter Edition
The latest issue of Nintendo’s official magazine has arrived, this time boasting a winter theme.
The free magazine follows the summer edition which launched back in August, featuring plenty of advertisements for Switch’s biggest games and handy little features for some of the most popular titles. Just like before, the entire thing is in Japanese, but it’s a pretty little thing to flick through if you’re intrigued.
Check it out for free here:
When the summer edition launched earlier this year we hoped that a western release might follow. Sadly, it doesn’t appear to have made its way out of Japan just yet.
Random: Some Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Cases Have Gone A Bit Overboard
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is out right now on Nintendo Switch and we hope you’re enjoying your copy if you’ve been lucky enough to pick one up. If you’re a physical collector, we also hope you’ll spare a thought for the poor souls who have to put up with this.
In some countries – namely those that have more than one official language – the case for the game displays more than one logo. In Switzerland, where German, French and Italian are all official languages, this results in three logos being plastered all over the lovely artwork.
On the one hand, it’s great that all languages are catered for. On the other, eww.
As it happens, there’s actually been some thought put into that seemingly random logo placement. As spotted by our very own Stephanie Woor, each logo is in roughly the correct position from a geographical point of view, with the German text being to the north-east of the French, and Italian being south of the two.

Amazon UK PS5 Customers Report Getting Everything Except The Console Itself
Some UK customers have reported that their preordered PlayStation 5 from Amazon is turning up on their doorstep filled with random items unrelated to the console itself.
This is according to a Eurogamer report, which states that many eager fans have noticed that their Amazon boxes containing the PS5 have been tampered with. Instead of using the signature Amazon tape the company is known for, these boxes appear to be sealed with clear tape. And upon opening their packages, customers have claimed that their PS5 is missing.
Rather than there being a shiny new PlayStation console inside the box, UK customers have said they received an assortment of items, from air fryers to nerf guns to foot massagers. On several occasions, according to a Reddit thread, Amazon UK drivers would pull up to residents' houses, pause for a moment in the driveway, and then drive off. This prompts a "package delivered" message sent to the recipient despite them not actually receiving a package of any kind. Some have been able to track down their console by chasing the delivery driver down the block, while many others are still waiting for Amazon UK support to assuage the situation.
