How To Register For Xbox FanFest Tomorrow
In years past, Xbox FanFest has given the biggest Xbox players a chance to celebrate the latest Xbox games and play together in-person, but the ongoing pandemic has made that impossible. However, Microsoft is moving Xbox FanFest entirely online with a series of global events, giving you the chance to participate in meet-and-greets, win prizes, and more. In order to participate, you'll need to register, and we'll run you through the steps to do so.
With the Xbox Series X and Series S just weeks away, it should make for a very exciting rest of 2020, so you won't want to miss out.
How To Register For Xbox FanFest
In order to register for Xbox FanFest, you must have an Xbox profile and be at least 18 years old. It's eligible to anyone worldwide, though activities and communications are going to only be in English.
Markiplier ditches YouTube to become a fantasy barkeeper
YouTube superstar Markiplier is set to enter the world of AFK Arena alongside his lovely dog, Chica. He’s taken up residence as the new barkeeper in the Noble Tavern, a sort of home away from home where you can summon heroes and have a break between adventures.
His likeness has been recreated in AFK Arena’s vibrant style, meaning he doesn’t look out of place among the other NPCs. He’s also lent his voice to the role, so you can expect to hear both words of wisdom and encouragement from the man himself. Plus, whenever you visit the Noble Tavern, he’ll be right there waiting to help you summon powerful allies to your team.
This is only the latest in a series of AFK Arena collaborations with major stars. Earlier this week, we covered the game’s ‘Cheat on your RPG’ ad campaign featuring Elijah Wood. The first of those TV spots sets up Wood’s secret love for AFK Arena and his rocky relationship with orc Uzgahk the Horrid. Yes, it’s all a bit wild.
Here you can see Markiplier and Chica in AFK Arena:
New characters arrive regularly in AFK Arena, but the Markiplier collab is something a little different. Recently, new recruitable heroes Zaphreal and Lucretia joined the fray, and there was even an AFK Arena Assassin’s Creed crossover not too long ago.
If you’re willing to risk losing dozens of hours of your time, you can grab AFK Arena now from over on the App Store or Google Play. Oh, and be sure to use code “BestRPG4BusyU” to net yourself 500K Gold and 500 Diamonds. We also keep an AFK Arena tier list and a regularly updated list of AFK Arena codes.
Welcome to Box Art Brawl, the contest which pits regional box art variants from across the globe against each other in a deadly duel to the death. Well, not really — you just vote for your favourite, like. It’s a bit of fun, see?
Last time we witnessed Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest give itself a sound thrashing as the North American / European variant beat the Japanese version with approximately two-thirds of the vote to one. Congratulations to Donkey Kong Country 2, commiserations to Super Donkey Kong 2. Incidentally, earlier this week Nintendo UK sought to clear up a common error around that particular game’s subtitle in the West — something that a few brawl enthusiasts (and even a Nintendo Life staffer or two) didn’t realise until recently.
Today we’re looking at a game which celebrated its fifteenth anniversary earlier this year. Yes, Advance Wars: Dual Strike brought Intelligent Systems’ ‘Wars’ series to Nintendo DS and while the European and North American covers were identical, the Japanese one is totally different and even has a completely different title.
Enough talk — let’s advance.
North America and Europe
We recall feeling indifferent to this cover when it released in 2005. Perhaps it was how the purple-y-blue wrench got lost against the purple-y blue sky, or how the figures on the left were fading away and leaving a big gap on the cover. Still, the more we re-examine this one, the more we like it. The subtle, painterly palette might not pop like some covers, but there’s lots dig into here, even if some of it gets a little lost.
It’s got the obligatory DS-based subtitle, so extra points for that.
Japan
If you thought that ‘Advance Wars’ title in the West was a misnomer considering the game was on the Game Boy Advance’s successor, you’re about to get very upset. Yes, in Japan the DS game had a title that carried over from the very first game in the series on Famicom, a game we’d never see on NES in the West.
Nintendo broke out the toys for this colourful cover and it shows a more lighthearted approach to warfare than its western brethren. The big brash logo fits the bill nicely, and the only thing that could make it better would be if the barrel on the tank broke the border a little. We like it.
So, you’ve seen the two options, but which is best? Pick your favourite and hit ‘Vote’ to let us know:
And that’s another brawl in the can. Take it easy wherever you are and we’ll see you next time for another bout.

Hulu's Helstrom Gives Viewers A New Take On Exorcisms
Hulu has two Marvel TV shows on the horizon, MODOK--which looks like Robot Chicken with Marvel villains--and Helstrom, a horror series landing on the service on October 16. During New York Comic-Con's panel for Helstrom, the cast and crew discussed making this show feel different from other gothic shows on TV.
Showrunner Paul Zbyszewski spoke openly about putting a new spin on the exorcism trope, as the show follows an ethics professor exorcising demons when he has one of his own inside of him. "You know whenever you're attacking something like this, you go 'What do we bring to it that people haven't seen before? What's new? What's different? What's the thing you don't expect?' Zbyszewski explained. "And also, does that feel true to the characters and the story we're trying to tell? So it's kind of interesting that a demon is coming in as an exorcist to get rid of other demons, and that's how I approached it."
While Helstrom is a horror show, one of the very few times Marvel and the genre have crossed paths, Zbyszewski went on to say that this show does pay homage to past horror films as there are many Easter eggs throughout the show." I have to give props to the director of our first episode Dana Reed, who was phenomenal. Terrific. Her approach coming at this was very traditional horror. There are shots in the first episode--as you've seen the scene of Damon coming up the stairs--the framing of that by Bernard Couture also our Director of photography. Just a master and artist paints the frame, Dana and Bernard really looked at what is classic [horror] and how do we mimic that style and tone and feel? And that was their approach, which I just love. They did fantastic job [and I] can't give them enough props."
This week marks the 8th anniversary of the original Bravely Default for 3DS. To celebrate, Square Enix’s Twitter account for the game shared some new artwork by character designer Naoki Ikushima.
Perhaps more interestingly, it said information about Bravely Default II for Nintendo Switch would be coming soon.
Bravely Default II is meant to be arriving at some point this year. Last month, the game was rated by the Australian Classification Board. Hopefully, this means it’s still on track to launch before the end of 2020.
When do you think this anticipated Switch title will be released? Share your thoughts down below.

Those words have finality when said aloud. An indirect farewell. Zavala can’t quite see Ikora’s expression in the muted reflection from his office window, but he can hear the disappointment in her voice. Beyond the glass, the City seems agnostic to the tempest of emotions. Ships soar through the night sky, lights glitter against the dark, the Traveler looms silently.
“I know,” is Zavala’s belated reply. He watches as Ikora’s reflection reaches toward him, but he’s still surprised when he feels the weight of her hand against his shoulder.
“I want to commend them for their bravery,” he says, confiding in her. “But I’d prefer they be here to berate them for their foolishness.”
Ikora wordlessly squeezes Zavala’s shoulder in response before standing beside him at the window. “I remember when you and I felt invincible. When our Ghosts felt invincible. When we could lay the foundation for the future with our bare hands. But now, it’s different. The list of names to memorialize gets longer by the day,” she says, watching debris slowly orbit the Traveler. “We’ve said goodbye to too many friends over the years.”
“And who is left to join us now… Rasputin? To think that I welcomed him in,” Zavala says, turning his back to the window and the Traveler, “only to find out he betrayed the Iron Lords all those years ago.” He looks across the datapads on his desk, jaw clenching. “Are we that desperate that we’re willing to accept mass murderers—”
He settles into his chair with a heavy sigh, lifting a hand to his forehead, eyes shut.
“Zavala.” Ikora’s voice is stern but tempered with concern as she follows him to his desk, her fingers curled against her palms. “Stronger together, remember? We aren’t abandoning anyone now.” The slight quaver in her voice belies her confidence. Most people wouldn’t notice, but Zavala has known her for over a century. When their eyes meet, she sees an unvoiced burden on his face that would appear to anyone else as a merely stoic and unflinching expression.
She sits on the corner of his desk, hands folded in her lap. “You know they’d all be lost without you,” she affirms. He doesn’t answer, but she can tell he agrees. “I would be lost without you.” When Zavala starts to counter her argument, she continues over him, unrelenting. “Out there, thousands of people look to us as a sign of hope. We need that. Everyone does.”
“It feels like I’m lying to them. To everyone,” Zavala interrupts. “The Darkness is here. We’re facing the end of all things, and I…” he closes his eyes, “I feel helpless.”
Ikora shakes her head and gives Zavala’s shoulder another squeeze. “Maybe we are.” It seems a poor thing to say at first, but she continues. “Even so, helpless doesn’t mean hopeless. We forget that sometimes, and instead of embracing our faith in moments like this, we often turn against it out of fear and doubt. When I found my faith diminished, I exiled myself to Io. I questioned everything. Including the Traveler.” She levels a knowing look at Zavala, who also recalls how that chapter of their lives ended.
“What has the Traveler ever done for us?” Zavala exclaims, his words strained through gritted teeth as he slaps his palm against his desk.
Ikora gently lifts her hand from his shoulder and searches her old friend’s face. She understands the pain behind his words and recognizes the wave of anger in his eyes as it recedes. She rises from the corner of his desk, walking back to the window.
“I’m sorry,” Zavala mumbles after the fact.
“It’s all right,” Ikora replies, gazing up at the Traveler hanging weightlessly over the City illuminated by its light. “If nothing else, the Traveler did one thing right by us.” It takes a moment for Zavala to respond to her candor.
“And what was that?” he asks, rising from his chair.
Ikora watches Zavala’s reflection in the glass, little more than a dim silhouette with glowing eyes. She smiles softly, and he can see a moment of peace and relief in her expression. A moment of faith. A moment of truth.
While hockey video game fans await the worldwide launch of EA Sports NHL 21 on October 15, EA Sports has announced another all-new NHL game. Well, not exactly all new. Players who pre-order NHL 21 from the Microsoft Store for Xbox will also receive a copy of NHL 94 Rewind, a game that uses the controls and graphics of the classic NHL 94, combined with teams and rosters from the present day NHL.
The cover athlete of NHL 21, Alexander Ovechkin, appears on the cover of NHL 94 Rewind too — although in 8-bit (complete with missing tooth pixel). He’s just one of hundreds of players who will be transported back in time with NHL 94 Rewind. Last year’s cover athlete, Auston Matthews, wouldn’t be born until four years after the release of the original NHL 94.
NHL 94 is often considered to be one of the most innovative, best crafted, and timeless sports games ever. The title has amassed a devoted following and 27 years later is still being played by old-school hockey video game fans around the world. The announcement of NHL 94 Rewind is the latest chapter in the game’s storied history.
