Bomber Crew Gets An Epic Sci-Fi Sequel Set In Space

The flight management simulator Bomber Crew will be getting a follow-up, this time in space. Yep, during the Future Games Show, Runner Duck Games announced Space Crew would be landing on the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms in September this year. It’ll be once again published by Curve Digital.

The Steam description sums it up nicely:

Captain’s Log, Star Date 2152. This is Space Crew. Its continuing mission: To defend Earth and humankind, to eliminate the extraterrestrial threat and to boldly go where no Crew has gone before in this unique, strategic, space simulation!

The game is apparently hard as it is cute, as players work their way through multiple missions in a procedurally generated campaign. It’s also packed full of popular sci-fi references, which will hopefully lift crew spirits in dire situations.

Did you play Bomber Crew? Will you be checking out this epic sci-fi sequel? Comment down below.

Poll: Box Art Brawl #47 – Shadowrun

Main

Welcome back to the Box Art Brawl, our weekly poll to find out which regional box art variant of an old video game is best.

Last week we looked at the three main cover variants for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The North American Genesis version won out in the end, with Japan not too far behind and Europe trailing in third place. Evidently, poor old Europe just couldn’t keep up with the blistering speed of the NA cover.

This week we’re looking at Beam Software’s Shadowrun on SNES, a cyberpunk action RPG from 1993. Adapted from the tabletop RPG of the same name, it was a moody game and an excellent addition to the system’s library. Crucially for our purposes today, the three principal regions all got quite different cover art, too. Everyone’s a winner!

So, let’s begin with a gentle jog and build up to a Shadowrun, shall we?

North America

NA

The North American cover puts the emphasis on the rather splendid logo (just look at the ‘S’) that hooks a horned skull around a scroll emblazoned with PCB-style etchings. Those markings are mirrored in the background in gold on white.

We get a semi-nonsensical tagline (“Life on the cyberpunk fringe of the future…”) in the border on the right, plus the awesome Data East logo embedded on the PCB. The gold sticker in the bottom left advertising sweepstakes is cut ‘around’ the background detail and isn’t as obtrusive as it otherwise might have been.

Lots to like, here.

Europe

EU

For the European release we see the same logo redrawn and recoloured here, along with a gun-toting goblin-orc creature fighting a couple of ’80s punk-ass goons that look like they’ve wandered off the Streets of Rage.

The green background isn’t fantastic, although it helps highlight the figures for the viewer, and we like how the demon dude is breaking out of the border. His Wolverine-style claws look a bit impractical while holding a firearm (we wonder how many times he has stabbed the fingers of his left hand with them), but the mix of the fantasy and cyberpunk styles here holds your attention.

Japan

JP

The Super Famicom cover goes full Blade Runner with a street scene and an orange-red cityscape at the top. The bustling street has plenty going on, although the image is a little zoomed-out to be able to pick much out without pressing the box to your nose.

What’s there is good, though, and we especially enjoy the Data East logo being used as a street sign. And once again, that’s a pretty great Shadowrun logo.

Bonus!

And just for fun, here’s the cover of the North American SEGA Genesis version of the game that features guns, l33t hacking, and steamy vents:

Genesis

So, three Super covers to pick from, and just one vote. Click your favourite below and hit the ‘Vote’ button cast your vote thusly:

And that’s it for another round of the ‘bagarre d’art boîte’, as they almost certainly don’t say in Paris. Thanks to BionicDodo for this week’s suggestion. Have a fabulous seven days until we see you next time, after which you may continue to have a fabulous time in our company before the cycle of fabulousness begins once again. Adieu!

Sci-fi Roguelite Space Renegades Debuts Beautiful Anime Trailer

From the devs behind Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander, Star Renegades is a roguelite that mixes tactical strategy gameplay with a turn-based JRPG-style combat system. While previous trailers have shown off the challenging gameplay and retro pixel art graphics, Star Renegades' newest trailer digs into the story behind the action.

The game follows a team of interplanetary rebels, leading the fight against the merciless Imperium. The new trailer focuses on Wynn Syphex, one of the main characters in Star Renegades' rebellion, digging into the painful past that led her to where she is.

Star Renegades boasts a complex AI-driven system where enemies and bosses will evolve as you play, in response to the way you play. Its campaign is also designed to be multi-generational, with romances between the main characters leading to children who carry on their parents' fight.

Known Issues for Alpha Skip-Ahead

We understand some issues have been listed in previous Xbox Insider Release Notes. These issues aren’t being ignored, but it will take Xbox engineers more time to find a solution. We appreciate your patience at this time!

Audio

  • Users who have Dolby Atmos enabled and console display settings set to 120hz with 36 bits per pixel (12-bit) are experiencing loss of Dolby Atmos audio in some situations.
    • Workaround: Disable 120hz or set Video Fidelity to 30 bits per pixel (10-bit) or lower.
  • Some users have reported that Dolby Atmos for Headphones audio setting changes when the console is rebooted/updated.
    • Note: If you attempt to set the audio to Dolby Atmos for Headphones and see a message advising you to launch the Dolby Access App, please file feedback before launching the app.

  • We are aware game clips (non-4K and 4K) are not recording at all or recording the incorrect length with recent updates. We are investigating.
    • Note: Make sure you report the behavior on the console as soon as you record the clip and notice either behavior.

Guide

  • When installing or updating a game/app, the installation progress bar may not show progress.  The issue is known and being investigated.
  • We’ve received reports that the Friends tab is not showing the correct status of online/offline friends.
  • Some users may notice that the Guide has changed appearance and functionality, this is expected behavior as there are certain experiences being flighted among a random subset of users in Preview.

Messages

  • Users are reporting that Message notifications that have been marked as read are re-appearing as new. We are aware and investigating the behavior.

My Games & Apps

  • Users have reported seeing black tiles instead of game artwork when browsing their collection.
    • Note: We are still investigating the issue, please report the issue again from the console if you have done so with a prior update and are still seeing this behavior.
  • Some titles in collection may appear with a “trial” tag incorrectly in collection.

Profile Color

  • Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.

News - The itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality has surpassed its $5M goal
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 06-15-2020, 11:56 AM - Forum: Lounge - No Replies

The itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality has surpassed its $5M goal

The massive itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality has surpassed its target of raising $5 million for the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Community Bail Fund.

The bundle was launched in response to the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, with itch explaining it wanted to raise funds to help push back against racial injustice, inequality, and police brutality against Black people.

As it currently stands, the bundle allows folks to pay a minimum of $5 to gain access to over 1000 titles from more than 1300 creators, including popular games like A Short Hike, Minit, Celeste, Overland, and Night in the Woods — to name but a few.

Itch had originally hoped to raise $5 million, but has managed to raise almost $5.4 million with just under four days to spare. Over 500,000 people have contributed to the cause so far, and developers have been rushing to add their titles to the bundle to help generate even more traction.

“We live in a time of racial injustice, inequality, and police brutality against black people. We hope that everyone takes a stand in any way that they can. We’ve partnered with creators from all across our platform to support organizations that are working directly with those affected,” wrote itch.

“All proceeds will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund split 50/50.”

The bundle will be available for another 3 days and 18 hours before its gone for good, so there’s still plenty of time to nab some top-tier games and support a hugely important cause.

News - Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Is Reportedly Up For Sale

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Is Reportedly Up For Sale

Batman LEGO

According to a report from CNBC, AT&T wants to sell its Warner Bros. gaming division for “about” $4 billion, to pay off a huge debt, valued at almost $200 billion.

The interested buyers at the moment supposedly include Take-Two Interactive, Electronic Arts, and Activision-Blizzard. This would be a huge sale, so obviously not every company will be lining up.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment owns and operates studios like TT Games (Lego series), Rocksteady (Batman Arkham series), NetherRealm (Mortal Kombat 11), and 5th Cell (Scribblenauts).

Any sale that was approved would not necessarily give rights to IP like Batman and Harry Potter – instead, there would likely be a “commercial licensing agreement” – to ensure AT&T continues to earn revenue.

Two sources have told GamesBeat that the report is correct in terms of the division being up for sale but according to CNBC no deal is assured or imminent. If anything goes ahead, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Blankos Block Party Announced At PC Gaming Show

If collecting vinyl toys is up your alley, then you're going to want to keep an eye out for Blankos Block Party. The debut title of developer Mythical, it's a self-described "party MMO" that will let you hang out with friends and crate levels in a colorful, arcade-style world.

Blankos Block Party was announced during the PC Gaming Show and flexed a bunch of ways that players and friends could dig into the game's massive multiplayer universe. Billed as a game about "where toys go when a human leaves the room" by Chief Creative Officer, Jamie Jackson, it'll let you play as a vinyl toy in a world where the only limit appears to be your imagination.

Players will be able to race against each other, take part in team-shooter-type activities, enjoy a bunch of minigames, and even create their own levels that can then be shared with the game's community. If you've always wanted to flex those creative muscles, you can do so now, with all of the in-game perks like jetpacks and other cosmetics there to aid you.
