In danger of making plenty of you – and us, we might add – feel dangerously old, today marks the 20th anniversary of Pokémon Yellow‘s European launch.

The game celebrated its ‘proper’ 20th anniversary a couple of years ago, thanks to its original Japanese launch date of 12th, September 1998. Those of us in Europe had to wait a little bit longer, but we imagine the Poké-memories it made for the franchise’s biggest fans was more than worth the wait.

Pokémon Yellow is, of course, an enhanced version of the series’ debut entries, Pokémon Red and Blue. It followed an almost identical plot and was based in the same region, but included small differences that fell in line with the ever-popular anime series that had captured the hearts of fans since Red and Blue’s release.

What are your memories of your travels across Kanto with Pikachu? ⚡ pic.twitter.com/MfXfI0NdHE— Nintendo of Europe (@NintendoEurope) June 16, 2020

Who could forget seeing Team Rocket’s Jessie, James, and Meowth on their Game Boy for the first time, or having your little Pikachu waddle around behind you as you explore everything Kanto has to offer for a second time around? Ah, nostalgia’s a wonderful thing, huh?
