Sony Playstation 2 (PCSX2) on RetroArch FULL setup with BIOS links

#1
Using PCSX2 to emulate PS2 using RetroArch
Sony Playstation 2 (PCSX2) on RetroArch FULL setup with BIOS links

Start by downloading RetroArch
Download RetroArch
Supports Linux, Windows, Raspberry Pi, Ps2, Ps3, Ps4, PSP, xbox, xbox one, ios, apple tv, gamecube, 3ds, steam, firefox, and many more.

RetroArch downloaded, you need the PCSX2 core to run ps2 iso's and other files.

Windows:
Navigate to Online Updater
Navigate to Select Core Updater
Select the core you want to download which is PCSX2 or Sony Playstation 2 - PCSX2

Linux:
Open a terminal
Start typing sudo apt-get install libretro-
Press tab a few times until all available possibilities show, press space to expand the list.
Now type the full name of the core you want to install Example: sudo apt-get install libretro-nestopia
Press enter and follow the process to install

It is possible to download the core files and add to core folder to update offline devices. The methods above will just update them automatically if need be.

***Now for this to work you will need a BIOS ripped from a ps2. Ps2 is copyrighted so you SHOULD rip your own firmware with the tutorial below, or find the download links below.

How to set up your BIOS:

  1. Go inside your RetroArch "system" folder (usually
retroarch/system/, but if you're not sure check the path in 'Settings > Directory > System/BIOS'
  2. Create a
    'pcsx2' folder.
  3. Go inside the
'pcsx2' folder and create a 'bios' folder.
  4. Go inside the
    'bios'
folder and paste your BIOS file(s) here.

For example, the default path would look like this:

Code:
system\pcsx2\bios\[bios_file_name].bin

Extensions - Content that can be loaded by the PCSX2 core have the following file extensions:
  • .elf
  • .iso
  • .ciso
  • .chd
  • .cso
  • .bin
  • .mdf
  • .nrg
  • .dump
  • .gz
  • .img
  • .m3u

Compatibility
The current standalone development version is reported to be compatible with approximately 97.4% of 2,641 tested games as of August 2020. Compatibility means only that the game will not crash, lock up, or enter a loop; there can still be bugs, missing post-processing effects, textures, and shadows in many compatible games. This is especially the case in hardware mode; a slower software mode is available for bugs without workarounds.

Now your RetroArch emulator is setup for PS2 properly. Hope this has helped. Will update with more links and details.
