The Outer Worlds Is Not A "Politically Charged" Game, Co-Director Says
As was made clear from the first teasers and trailers for The Outer Worlds, it is a game where megacorporations are taking over planets throughout space. As such, the game appears to have something to say about capitalism and power. And now, co-director Leonard Boyarsky has come forward to talk about how the game doesn't aim to be "politically charged."
"I don't want people to think this is a really hard, politically charged game: it's supposed to be fun, it's supposed to be humorous," he explained to VGC.
The game is more about how power is used against people who don't have it rather than acting as a critique of capitalism. "It can be insidious; the way which people control the stories you tell about the world. If you let other people control that narrative, then they can control you to a certain degree. That can be any form of government: if it wasn't capitalism it could be something else," he said.
Boyarsky added that development on The Outer Worlds began in April 2016, which was before "things happened [in world politics]" that "nobody expected." He didn't mention any specific events but you can read into what he's saying.
He and other members of the development team grew up during the "onslaught of consumer culture." As such, the developers are familiar with those events and will use the game to "poke fun at it," Boyarsky said.
Boyarsky said the team at Obsidian has been "very careful" about how it tells its story about power imbalances, just Boyarsky did with the 2001 RPG Arcanum that dealt with racial issues. Overall, Obsidian's aim with The Outer Worlds is to tell a story and write characters that look at "all aspects of issues."
"The last thing we want to do is make a game that people feel is lecturing them," Boyarsky said.
The Outer Worlds launches on October 25. Though it is developed by the Microsoft-owned Obsidian, the game is published byGrand Theft Auto V parent publisher Take-Two Interactive's new indie games label, Private Division.
The game is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as PC where it's exclusive to the Epic Games Store for a period of time. It'll come to Steam sometime in 2020. Like all of Microsoft's other games, it'll be playable at no extra charge for Xbox Game Pass subscribers.
Demo Kill la Kill: IF Or Buy The Full Game Later This Month
Fans of the Studio Trigger anime Kill la Kill are in for a treat towards the end of July when the vagrant school girl Ryuko arrives on the Switch in her very first fighting game adaptation.
Following on from the initial reveal of the game around the same time last year, Arc System Works has now confirmed a Switch demo of Kill la Kill: IF will be made available alongside the game’s launch, on 25th / 26th July. It will include a Versus Mode – featuring a total of four playable characters (Ryuko Matoi, Satsuki Kiryuin, Ira Gamagoori and Uzu Sanageyama), and the first story mode chapter.
If you’re wondering why the Switch demo is releasing alongside the game, it’s “due to reasons”, according to the official Arc System Works America Twitter account. Other versions of the demo go live on Monday, 8th July. Digital pre-orders for Switch version are expected to follow sometime next week.
Update #2: Due to reasons, the Switch demo won’t be ready until the launch of the game.
Will you be downloading this demo or buying the full game on release? Leave a comment down below.

New Desktop Analytics feature helps organizations keep PCs up to date
Based on our work with consumers and organizations of all sizes, across more than 800 million Windows devices, we’ve learned that it’s easier to deploy Windows 10 when using the powerful intelligence of the cloud and machine learning. Since the Windows 10 April 2018 Update release, we’ve leveraged artificial intelligence (AI) at scale to improve the quality and reliability of our release rollouts. And along the way, we’ve learned the best ways to help ensure devices have a positive update experience.
Today, we’re making these same learnings available to organizations through the public preview of Desktop Analytics, which is available now. Desktop Analytics provides the insight and automation you need to efficiently get current and stay current. Desktop Analytics is a cloud-connected service that integrates with System Center Configuration Manager and will integrate with Microsoft Intune in the near future. With Desktop Analytics, it’s easier to deploy with confidence and keep your PCs up to date with the latest Windows 10 capabilities your employees need.
“With Desktop Analytics, we’re able to automate our pilot plans to ensure all application and hardware scenarios can be tested and validated prior to upgrading to the latest release of Windows 10.” —Jason Myers, End User Senior Lead, Mars
This service provides intelligence that helps you make more informed decisions about the update readiness of your Windows clients. In combination with Configuration Manager, Desktop Analytics is designed to create an inventory of the Windows apps running in your organization and then assess app compatibility with the latest feature updates of Windows 10. By combining data from your own organization with data aggregated from millions of devices connected to our cloud services, you can take the guess work out of testing these apps and instead focus your attention on key blockers. Historically, getting a view of the compatibility of your apps with new Windows releases was a time-consuming and tedious process of human testing—but now this can be automated through the intelligence of what we learn at cloud scale.
Desktop Analytics brings you data-driven recommendations that allow you to quickly and easily run successful pilots that represent your entire application and driver estate. You can then use the health signals of your pilots to evaluate the readiness of your assets and implement an optimized production deployment plan with Configuration Manager.

Newsbrief: Keywords Studios has opened a recording studio in São Paulo, Brazil to support and expand its existing localization services in the country.

In a press release, Keywords notes that the new studio also introduces a dedicated and scalable solution for Brazilian Portuguese voiceover recording, something it says was previously lacking in the localization filed.
“Brazil is a key territory for video-games,” says Nicolas Liorzou, Keywords Studios Americas’ regional managing director. “We believe that with this expanded studio in São Paulo, we’ll now be in the best position to accommodate the always-increasing needs of our customers in Brazilian Portuguese voice-over.”

It is finally time. Netflix's hit sci-fi show, Stranger Things, premiered its third season just now. All eight episodes of the third season are now available to stream around the world.
What are you waiting for? If you're in America and have the 4th of July off, what better way to kick off your holiday weekend than spending some time with Eleven as she and her crew save the world all over again.
Millie Bobby Brown is back as Eleven, with Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, and Noah Schnapp all reprising their roles as Lucas Sinclair, Dustin Henderson, Mike Wheeler, and Will Byers, respectively. Max Mayfield returns to her Season 2 role as Sadie Sink, while David Harbour (Jim Hopper) and Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers) are both returning as well.
Stranger Things 3 picks up after the events of Season 2. Eleven and the gang are enjoying their summer break, but obviously everything goes to hell and demons must be defeated.
"It's safe to say that Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have pulled it off: After a lackluster sophomore slump, Stranger Things is back at the top of its game," reviewer Michael Rougeau said in GameSpot's Stranger Things 3 review.
It’s Official: The Switch Online Service Has Surpassed 10 Million Subscribers
The Nintendo Switch Online service might have only been launched late last year, but it’s already got more than 10 million subscribers. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed this at the company’s recent Shareholder Q&A.
The number of subscribers for Nintendo Switch Online has increased steadily since the service was launched last September, and it has now surpassed 10 million accounts.
When asked about how Nintendo would “continue to make the content of the service more appealing going forward” he referenced existing offerings such as the online NES library and Tetris 99. He also mentioned how current subscribers gained access to additional services like Save Data Cloud Backup and game vouchers.
Nintendo Switch Online provides users the ability to play Nintendo Switch games over the internet, both competitively and cooperatively. It also provides services such as Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online, Save Data Cloud Backup, and smartphone application services such as online lobbies and voice chat. In addition, we provided TETRIS 99 as a special offer to Nintendo Switch Online members this February, and then in May, began selling Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers that allow users to purchase two Nintendo Switch download titles at a discount.
How would you like to see Nintendo improve the value of the online service moving forward? Tell us below.
