Google Stadia Pro Price Details: How Much Does The Subscription Service Cost?
Just before E3 2019, Google held the first ever Stadia Connect event on June 6 to reveal some of the key details we've been awaiting regarding the video game streaming service. The service will launch this November in a limited capacity and expand next year with a two-tiered strategy. One of these tiers includes a subscription, but what is it and what does it include?
The subscription plan is called Stadia Pro, and it will cost $10 per month. It includes access to a selection of free games, discounts on full game purchases, and all games will run in 4K at 60fps with 5.1 surround sound. The only announced free game so far is full access to Destiny 2 with all of its add-ons, including the upcoming Shadowkeep expansion. Google hasn't detailed how many games will be included with a subscription at launch, or how often new games will be added.
At launch, Stadia access will only be available by purchasing the Founder's Edition. This comes with a three-month subscription Stadia Pro, which will become available to buy separately at a later date. The Founder's Edition also includes a Buddy Pass that gifts three months to a friend, a Chromecast Ultra, and a limited-edition controller. The Founder's Edition will cost $130.
A Stadia Pro subscription will be the only way to play Stadia at first, but not forever. A separate Stadia Base service will launch in 2020. That service will be free, but all games will have to be purchased a la carte. The resolution and sound quality will be slightly diminished too, at a max of 1080p and stereo sound. It won't include a Chromecast Ultra, but you can play on any Chrome browser or a Pixel 3 or 3a phone.
For more details on Google Stadia, check out what we learned about pricing, release date, and more, including its game lineup. Excitingly, those titles include the newly announced Baldur's Gate III.

My Friend Pedro Gracefully Obliterates A 20th June Release Date On Switch
Developer Deadtoast and publisher Devolver Digital have revealed the release date for the upcoming slow-motion carnage that is My Friend Pedro. You’ll be able to get your hands on it from 20th June.
To celebrate, a brand new trailer has been released (which you can watch above) and an early discount has been detailed for those eager to put in a pre-order. If you grab the game from the Nintendo eShop early, you’ll be able to snag a 15% discount off the usual £17.99 / $19.99 price. Here’s a quick description if you’d like to learn more:
My Friend Pedro is a violent ballet about friendship, imagination, and one man’s struggle to obliterate anyone in his path at the behest of a sentient banana. The strategic use of split aiming, slow motion, and the ol’ stylish window breach create one sensational action sequence after another in an explosive battle through the violent underworld.
On a slightly related note, we thought we’d give you a quick insight into the daily routine of working at Nintendo Life. Today, we received a lovingly crafted email from the Devolver Digital folks which simply said the following:
“Hello! If you would like to request a review code for My Friend Pedro, please write your platform preference onto a banana and send a picture to [email address]”
We’re not shy here at NL, so off we popped into the office garden. Who said games journalism wasn’t super professional?
Video: Digital Foundry Ponders A Witcher 3 Switch Port
With rumours doing the rounds that CDProjekt’s The Witcher 3: Wild Huntmight be Switch-bound, the internet is whipping itself into a frenzy of tinfoil hats and speculation. In order to assess if a potential port would even be viable on Nintendo’s handheld hybrid, our friends over at Digital Foundry have taken a look at the sort of cutbacks and compromises it would require.
Using a PC with specifications closely mirroring the performance of your favourite Nintendo console, Rich Leadbetter has been running the game to see if ‘Switcher 3’ could be more than just wishful thinking. Check out his analysis below:
As you can see, things start out looking pretty grim, but with some tweaking to the resolution and other variables, Rich manages to get the game running at a level approaching ‘acceptable’. Of course, that’s not good enough for most of us, but as pointed out in the video, this is PC code and any potential port would need to be optimised to take advantage of every last drop of juice the Switch has to offer. CD Projekt also has a track record with impressive console ports in the form of the previous Witcher game on Xbox 360, so while The Witcher 3 on Switch would be a huge undertaking, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
We’ve seen miracles before, of course, and the guys at Digital Foundry have already found Mortal Kombat 11 to be making use of the ‘boost mode’ opened up for developers in a recent firmware update, so perhaps this could be used to further improve performance. Again, this is all fanciful speculation until we hear something concrete from CD Projekt or Nintendo. Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips has got gamers salivating even more with the wording of this tweet introducing the video:
Does Tom know something we don’t? Are we all just clutching desperately at straws here? It’s tough to know with E3 fever making gamers the world over a little giddy. For now, Witcher 3 on Switch doesn’t exist… does it?
Are there any other ‘impossible’ ports you’d like to see grace Nintendo’s hybrid console? Crysis, perhaps? Let us know your thoughts on these rumours with a comment.

How AI and satellites are used to combat illegal fishing
Fishing is a way of life for coastal communities around the world. An estimated four million fishing vessels sail the world’s oceans, providing fish for a global seafood market valued at over $120 billion.
“It’s hard to overstate the importance of fish,” says Nick Wise, CEO of the nonprofit organization OceanMind. “There are three billion people in the world who rely on seafood as their primary source of protein, mostly in developing nations. Twelve percent of the world’s population relies on the wild-capture seafood industry directly or indirectly for their livelihoods.”
Overfishing — when fish is caught faster than stocks can replenish — is a significant factor in the decline of ocean wildlife populations, not least because of the bycatch of other marine life such as turtles and cetaceans. Each of these creatures is an important part of ecosystems and the biodiversity of the ocean.
“A collapse in fish stocks and a failure to manage fishing sustainably,” says Wise, “would lead to a food security crisis and result in significant poverty around the world.”
To fight back against this overfishing, OceanMind is using the power of AI to map data and then feeding that information to government authorities to help catch perpetrators.
Regional, national and international regulations are used to manage fishing efforts and can include restrictions on fishing out of season, using banned gear or techniques, or catching more than a set quota.
There are many ways of trying to catch those flouting the law, such as patrol boats, on-board cameras, and the remote electronic monitoring of discards.
However, the vastness of the ocean makes the job difficult.
OceanMind’s system currently tracks thousands of boats, with the capability of tracking millions, across the globe by gathering data from a wide range of sources, including collision-avoidance transponders aboard boats; radar images; satellite imagery; and cellphone signals. Analyzing these enormous datasets is beyond the capability of any one person. OceanMind has developed machine-learning algorithms that predict the type of fishing behavior based on vessel location, and flags suspicious and potentially illegal activity such as fishing too close to the shore.
But the system can’t tell on its own whether anyone is breaking the law.
“The difference between legal and illegal fishing is simply whether or not the vessel had a license to do what it did in that place, at that time, and in that way,” says Wise. “That’s what makes combating illegal fishing challenging: One vessel making a particular maneuver might be legal, another vessel doing the same thing next to it might be illegal.”
OceanMind’s fisheries experts verify the alerts flagged by AI and coordinate closely with the relevant authorities, who can then decide whether to investigate further. The organization already has partnerships with governments, including Thailand’s, which can then target resources to catch offenders.
Real-time advances
Until now, OceanMind has used onsite servers to process the data that comes in every day. “We were basically running a day behind,” explains Wise. “We reviewed things that were happening yesterday.”
Through a Microsoft AI for Earth grant, OceanMind is moving its data analytics to the Microsoft Azure cloud. “The collaboration with Microsoft is going to bring all of that data through our system much more quickly and apply the AI in near real time.”
That transformation will make a big difference to enforcement. Real-time monitoring will help authorities plan patrols that can catch illegal fishing as it happens.
Following a start to preorders in France, Germany and the UK last week, Apple on Friday quietly initiated sales of Beats’ Powerbeats Pro headphones in Australia and China.
With the new preorder availability, Beats’ first totally wireless headphone model is now up for sale in seven regions.
Australia was added to the list of regions accepting orders for the headset on Friday local time, reports mac prices. China, which was not included among an initial set launch countries, also started the preorder process on Friday.
Powerbeats Pro is slated to roll out in 20 countries this summer, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Prior to Australia and China, Apple began sales in France, Germany and the UK on May 31.
Apple’s regional websites for all other countries show the device as “coming soon.”
Beats’ first completely wireless product, Powerbeats Pro incorporates Apple smarts like the H1 chip to enable enhanced connectivity, better run time and “Hey Siri” support. Unlike the tech giant’s own AirPods model, Powerbeats Pro is somewhat ruggedized and features IPX4 water resistance.
