Unity Distribution Portal In Beta

Earlier at their GDC 2019 keynote, Unity announced the beta release of Unity Distribution Portal, or UDP for short… thank goodness that acronym isn’t taken!  So what exactly is UDP?  Its a combination of a beta package in Unity that integrates with their existing analytics and IAP packages and enables you to submit to the UDP.  The UDP itself is an online portal for managing publishing, IAP and tracking of multiple different online stores around the world.

Described succinctly as:

Create once, publish everywhere

UDP reduces the engineering complexities associated with publishing to multiple app stores, enables you to distribute and operate games in local markets, and connects you with hundreds of millions of players worldwide through participating app stores.

Currently limited to the Android platform and only a few live app stores ( Catappult and MOO Store), with more coming online soon.  Essentially it allows you to publish to more stores with very little extra effort, all managed and reported in a single interface.  More interesting, is the following question and answer pair from the FAQ:

Does UDP support non-Unity games?

Currently, UDP only supports games made with Unity. However, in the future, UDP will be engine-agnostic. More details on this will be coming soon.

For more details on the Unity Distribution Portal beta visit here.  See it in action in the video below.

News - Get A Year Of Nintendo Switch Online Free With Twitch Prime
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 03-30-2019, 05:47 PM - Forum: Lounge - No Replies

Get A Year Of Nintendo Switch Online Free With Twitch Prime

Last year, Nintendo launched its subscription-based online service for Nintendo Switch, following in the footsteps of Sony and Microsoft. While the price is more modest than that of PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold, that price just got even better if you're a Twitch Prime member (one of the persk of Amazon Prime). Twitch Prime members can now claim a free three months of Nintendo Switch Online. You just need to sign in to claim your three months, and if you come back after 60 days, you can get another nine months added to your account. That's a year of Switch Online for free.

If you already have Switch Online, you can still take advantage of this deal. Just sign-in and be sure to renew the deal after 60 days so you can get all 12 months added to your account. Whether you're signing up for Switch Online for the first time or adding free time to your account, you have until September 24 to grab your first three months and until January 22, 2020 to claim the additional nine.

No Caption Provided

A Switch Online subscription offers more than being able to play the online multiplayer component in games like Splatoon 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With a subscription, you get access to a library of classic NES games that you can play as much as you want. New games are added every few months, with 1998's Blaster Master and Zelda II: The Adventures of Link added this past January. Subscribers also get access to cloud saves, allowing them to recover their data should their Switch console break or be stolen.

Normally, individual Switch Online subscriptions cost $4 USD a month, $8 USD for three months, and $20 USD for 12 months. For $35 USD a year, you can subscribe to a Switch Online Family Membership, which includes the service for eight different consoles.

Amazon has already been creating video game-related benefits for Twitch Prime members, offering free PC titles every month. You still have time to download the four March 2019 games, which will no longer be offered once April begins. Until March 31, with Twitch Prime, you can download the puzzle RPG Star Vikings Forever, artsy platformer The King's Bird, multiplayer pinball game Kabounce, and puzzle platformer Snake Pass. To claim these games, you must make sure you Amazon account is linked to Twitch.

Angry Video Game Nerd I & II Deluxe Now Officially Confirmed For Switch

Back in January, we reported on the fact that Angry Video Game Nerd: I & II Deluxe was coming to consoles although – at the time – a Switch version wasn’t confirmed. It seemed incredibly likely that a Switch version was on the way, though, and we now have actual, definite proof that it is. Hooray!

The confirmation comes via FreakZone Games’ Twitter account, as you can see below. It seems like an appearance at PAX East was needed before anything could be revealed.

As you can likely tell from its title, the bundle will contain both of the 2D Angry Video Game Nerd games already available. Both are 2D platformers centred around the online, mature-themed comedy series of the same name, tasking you with blasting your way through levels with a NES Zapper. The first of these actually launched on Wii U and 3DS back in 2015.

Are you happy to finally have confirmation that the release will arrive on Switch? Will you be picking it up? Tell us below.

  Handling Complex Memory Situations

Handling Complex Memory Situations

Jérôme Glisse felt that the time had come for the Linux kernel to address seriously the issue of having many different types of memory installed on a single running system. There was main system memory and device-specific memory, and associated hierarchies regarding which memory to use at which time and under which circumstances. This complicated new situation, Jérôme said, was actually now the norm, and it should be treated as such.

The physical connections between the various CPUs and devices and RAM chips—that is, the bus topology—also was relevant, because it could influence the various speeds of each of those components.

Jérôme wanted to be clear that his proposal went beyond existing efforts to handle heterogeneous RAM. He wanted to take account of the wide range of hardware and its topological relationships to eek out the absolute highest performance from a given system.

Throw Your Friends To Victory In Co-Op Switch Adventure Heave Ho

Devolver Digital has spilt the beans on a new co-op focused game headed to Nintendo Switch. The title in question is Heave Ho, and it looks like things are about to get pretty crazy.

The game is a physics-based local multiplayer adventure where players must cross an impossibly wide ravine. Using your own two hands, and then the outstretched grip of your friends, you’ll be swinging each other all over the place, hoping to effortlessly soar across each level to victory. If the trailer’s anything to go by, though, we imagine there will be multiple deaths involved, too.

You can customise your character with all manner of stylish accessories, presumably to give you a better chance of remembering who’s who and therefore making it slightly more likely that you won’t fall to your doom. We have some screenshots for you below.

If you like the look of this, you’ll be happy to know that it supports anywhere from 1-4 players and is expected to arrive “this summer”. If you happen to be travelling to PAX East this weekend, you can check it out first-hand at booth #18096.

What do you think? A fun little adventure to play through with your friends? Share your thoughts with us below.

Solus 4 Linux Gaming Report: A Great Nvidia, Radeon And Steam User Experience

This article is the third in a series on Linux-powered gaming that aims to capture the various nuances in setup, as well as uncover potential performance variations between nine different desktop Linux operating systems.

Solus is a fascinating Linux distribution. It’s built from scratch, falls under the category of rolling release and by default ships with the Budgie desktop environment — which was also developed by the Solus Project. Other desktop environment ISOs like Gnome and MATE are available.

Solus, which recently updated to version 4.0, is aimed at home desktop users and Linux beginners. It made a positive first impression on me, so I’ll be covering it outside of this Linux Gaming Report in the near future.
