X-Men Spin-Off New Mutants Star Has No Idea When It Will Be Released

While the upcoming X-men movie Dark Phoenix has had its release date moved back a couple of times, we do at least know that it will be hitting theaters this summer. The same can't be said for The New Mutants, the horror-themed X-Men spin-off that was shot two years ago and has been subjected to various delays ever since. Now star Maisie Williams has expressed her frustration with the situation.

In an interview with Rolling Stone to promote the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones, Williams was asked about the status of The New Mutants. "Who knows when the f*** that's gonna come out," she said. "Hopefully this interview will make everyone hurry up a little bit."

Williams explained that reshoots planned to "make it scarier" hadn't taken place yet, even though the movie currently has an August 2 release date. In addition, she stated that she recently saw co-star Charlie Heaton and asked him, "What the f*** is going on with this movie?" Unfortunately, Heaton didn't know either.

This isn't the first time one of the stars of The New Mutants has expressed their feelings about the delays to the film. Last year, Anna Taylor-Joy described the situation as "frustrating." The movie is directed by Josh Boone, who previously stated that it will be a "rubber-reality supernatural horror movie."

The New Mutants was originally set for release in April 2018. It was subsequently moved to February 2019, before shifting again to August. Although that date has not changed, it seems highly unlikely the movie will be released then--there have been no trailers since the first one back in October 2017, and the cast clearly have no idea when we are likely to see it.

While there were reports of potential reshoots before Disney's recent purchase of Fox's entertainment assets, the fact the movie is now under the Disney banner complicates matters. It is thought that Fox's Marvel properties--namely X-Men and the Fantastic Four--will be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The New Mutants could be released straight to the upcoming streaming service Disney+, but the studio has not commented on this.

Overcooked 2 Is Getting Even More DLC And A 2019 Season Pass

Team17 has revealed that the ever-expanding Overcooked 2 is about to receive yet another DLC package and a season pass for 2019.

The new DLC is called Campfire Cook Off and will become available on Switch on 18th April. We have a description of what you can expect right here:

The Onion King has joined the Cookie Scouts in his latest bid to appease his kingdom after raising the Unbread and he wants you to help him make amends. Campfire Cook Off sees players head into the forests of the Onion Kingdom to cook under the stars. This brand new DLC boasts a whole heap of content; new kitchens, new chefs, new recipes and new mechanics!

Key features:
New map! Climb aboard the Onion King’s bus and follow the famous Trail Mix Trail (what do you mean you haven’t heard of it?!)
12 levels!Play a whole host of new kitchens with up to three of your friends, from tall tree tops to rushing rivers!
Chefs! Four new chefs are ready to take on the great outdoors and earn their cooking in the wilderness badges!
Recipes! Open up the recipe book, you have two new meals to learn! These camping favourites will require all of your cooking know how to perfect.
Mechanics! Campfire Cook Off introduces some new mechanics that will put even the best chefs to the test

The season pass is arriving on the very same day, and will “give players access to all content released in 2019” including this new Campfire Cook Off content. We’re told that two more DLC packs will offer even more mayhem, just in case the Chinese New Year, Festive Content, Surf ‘n’ Turf, and New Game+ additions we’ve received recently weren’t quite enough.

Looks like Overcooked fans will well and truly have their plates full with all of this to get stuck into. Campfire Cook Off will cost £4.49 / €4.99 / $5.99, while the season pass will be £14.99 / €18.99 / $18.99.

Will you be diving in for more?

  Fedora - Setting kernel command line arguments with Fedora 30
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 03-27-2019, 10:47 PM - Forum: Linux, FreeBSD, and Unix types - No Replies

Setting kernel command line arguments with Fedora 30

Adding options to the kernel command line is a common task when debugging or experimenting with the kernel. The upcoming Fedora 30 release made a change to use Bootloader Spec (BLS). Depending on how you are used to modifying kernel command line options, your workflow may now change. Read on for more information.

To determine if your system is running with BLS or the older layout, look in the file

/etc/default/grub

If you see

GRUB_ENABLE_BLSCFG=true

in there, you are running with the BLS setup and you may need to change how you set kernel command line arguments.

If you only want to modify a single kernel entry (for example, to temporarily work around a display problem) you can use a grubby command

$ grubby --update-kernel /boot/vmlinuz-5.0.1-300.fc30.x86_64 --args="amdgpu.dc=0"

To remove a kernel argument, you can use the

–remove-args

argument to grubby

$ grubby --update-kernel /boot/vmlinuz-5.0.1-300.fc30.x86_64 --remove-args="amdgpu.dc=0"

If there is an option that should be added to every kernel command line (for example, you always want to disable the use of the rdrand instruction for random number generation) you can run a grubby command:

$ grubby --update-kernel=ALL --args="nordrand"

This will update the command line of all kernel entries and save the option to the saved kernel command line for future entries.

If you later want to remove the option from all kernels, you can again use

–remove-args

with

–update-kernel=ALL
$ grubby --update-kernel=ALL --remove-args="nordrand"

Adobe, Microsoft and SAP announce new Open Data Initiative details

Global industry partners join effort to connect data and gather powerful insights fueled by AI and intelligent services

LAS VEGAS — March 27, 2019 Wednesday at Adobe Summit, the industry’s leading customer experience conference, Adobe (Nasdaq: ADBE) CEO Shantanu Narayen and Microsoft (Nasdaq “MSFT” @microsoft) CEO Satya Nadella revealed additional details about the Open Data Initiative (ODI). As originally announced last September, Adobe, Microsoft and SAP (NYSE: SAP) have embarked on a new approach to business data that will help companies transform their customer experiences through real-time insights delivered from the cloud.

The three partners outlined a common approach and set of resources for customers in an initial announcement last September, with the ambition of helping customers create new connections across previously siloed data, more seamlessly garner intelligence, and ultimately better serve brands with an improved view of their customer interactions.

From the beginning, the ODI has been focused on enhancing interoperability between the applications and platforms of the three partners through a common data model with data stored in a customer-chosen data lake. This unified data lake is intended to allow customers their choice of development tools and applications to build and deploy services.

To improve that process, the three companies plan to deliver in the coming months a new approach for publishing, enriching and ingesting initial data feeds from Adobe Experience Platform, activated through Adobe Experience Cloud, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and Office 365 and SAP C/4HANA, into a customer’s data lake. This will enable a new level of AI and machine learning enrichment to garner new insights and better serve customers.

Unilever, a mutual customer and one of the early global brands to express support and excitement about the ODI, today announced its intention to simplify a previously complex business outcome based on these data connections. At Adobe Summit, Unilever is demonstrating how it plans to bring together disparate customer, product and resource data and use AI-driven insights to help reduce its plastic packaging and encourage consumer recycling. By eliminating the silos of data, Unilever will be able to tie inventory and plastics data into Adobe data to enhance customer experiences and encourage participation.

To accelerate development of the initiative, Adobe, Microsoft and SAP also announced today plans to convene a Partner Advisory Council consisting of over a dozen companies including Accenture, Amadeus, Capgemini, Change Healthcare, Cognizant, EY, Finastra, Genesys, Hootsuite, Inmobi, Sprinklr, and WPP. These organizations span myriad industries and customer segments and believe there is significant opportunity in the ODI for them to drive net- new value to their customers.

“Our customers are all trying to integrate behavioral, CRM, ERP and other internal data sets to have a comprehensive understanding of each consumer, and they’re struggling with the challenges of integrating this data,” said Stephan Pretorius, CTO of WPP. “We’re excited about the initiative Adobe, Microsoft and SAP have taken in this area, and we see a lot of opportunity to contribute to the development of ODI.”

Apple seeds first macOS 10.14.5 beta to developers

Apple on Wednesday released the first beta of macOS 10.14.5 for developer testing, joining seeds of iOS 12.3 and tvOS 12.3.

Apple News+ on Mac

To get the beta, users must be registered Apple developers and use the correct Developer Center profile. For those already in the developer stream, it can be downloaded using Mojave’s Software Update tool.

Details of the latest macOS beta release are unknown, but it is believed that version 10.14.5 will be purely a maintenance update, cleaning up bugs and security flaws.

macOS 10.14.4 went live just this Monday, bringing with it things like Apple News+ support, an automatic Dark Mode in Safari, and new management options for push notifications. Some other highlights include air quality index readings in Maps for the U.S., UK and India, real-time text for phone calls made through a nearby iPhone, and second-generation AirPods compatibility.

The iOS 12.3 and tvOS 12.3 betas incorporate Apple’s redesigned TV app, laying the groundwork for Apple TV+ and Apple TV Channels. Within the iOS Wallet app, users can see a longer transaction history setting the stage for the Apple Card.

EA Partners With Vicarious Visions Founders On Next Franchise

EA has announced a deal with Velan Studios, the new startup from Vicarious Visions founders Guha and Karthik Bala. The EA Partners label will publish Velan's first original franchise, which will appear on PC, consoles, and mobile devices.

The announcement didn't detail Velan's first project but did drop one intriguing clue. It mentions a new kind of "team-based action," which suggests it will be a multiplayer title.

Velan has announced plans to add 40 new jobs to prepare for creating the new IP, which is double its current team size. The studio has raised $7 million in capital since being founded in 2016. While at Vicarious Visions, the Bala brothers oversaw the development of series like Guitar Hero and Skylanders. Velan's talent pool includes veterans from games including Super Mario Maker, Uncharted, and Metroid Prime.

"We started Velan Studios to make community-centered play experiences that are daring and distinctive from what’s being played today," said Guha Bala in the announcement. "We can't wait to share the details of our first original game in the future."

  Linux Foundation Welcomes LVFS Project
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 03-27-2019, 02:10 PM - Forum: Linux, FreeBSD, and Unix types - No Replies

Linux Foundation Welcomes LVFS Project

The Linux Foundation welcomes the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS) as a new project. LVFS is a secure website that allows hardware vendors to upload firmware updates. It’s used by all major Linux distributions to provide metadata for clients, such as fwupdmgr, GNOME Software and KDE Discover.

To learn more about the project’s history and goals, we talked with Richard Hughes, upstream maintainer of LVFS and Principal Software Engineer at Red Hat.

Linux Foundation: Briefly, what is Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS)? Can you give us a little background on the project?

Richard Hughes:  A long time ago I wanted to design and build an OpenHardware colorimeter (a device used to measure the exact colors on screen) as a weekend hobby. To update the devices, I also built a command line tool and later a GUI tool to update just the ColorHug firmware, downloading a list of versions as an XML file from my personal homepage. I got lots of good design advice from Lapo Calamandrei for the GUI (a designer from GNOME), but we concluded it was bad having to reinvent the wheel and build a new UI for each open hardware device.

A few months prior, Microsoft made UEFI UpdateCapsule a requirement for the “Windows 10 sticker.” This meant vendors had to start supporting system firmware updates via a standardized format that could be used from any OS. Peter Jones (a colleague at Red Hat) did the hard work of working out how to deploy these capsules on Linux successfully. The capsules themselves are just binary executables, so what was needed was the same type of metadata that I was generating for ColorHug, but in a generic format.

Some vendors like Dell were already generating some kinds of metadata and trying to support Linux. A lot of the tools for applying the firmware updates were OEM-specific, usually only available for Windows, and sometimes made dubious security choices. By using the same container file format as proposed by Microsoft (the reason we use a cabinet archive, rather than .tar or .zip) vendors could build one deliverable that worked on Windows and Linux.

Dell has been a supporter ever since the early website prototypes. Mario Limonciello (Senior Principal Software Development Engineer from Dell) has worked with me on both the lvfs-website project and fwupd in equal measure, and I consider him a co-maintainer of both projects. Now the LVFS supports firmware updates on 72 different devices, from about 30 vendors, and has supplied over 5 million firmware updates to Linux clients.

The fwupd project is still growing, supporting more hardware with every release. The LVFS continues to grow, adding important features like 2 factor authentication, OAuth and various other tools designed to get high-quality metadata from the OEMs and integrate it into ODM pipelines. The LVFS is currently supported by donations, which funds the two server instances and some of the test hardware I use when helping vendors.

Hardware vendors upload redistributable firmware to the LVFS site packaged up in an industry-standard .cab archive along with a Linux-specific metadata file. The fwupd daemon allows session software to update device firmware on the local machine. Although fwupd and the LVFS were designed for desktops, both are also usable on phones, tablets, IoT devices and headless servers.

The LVFS and fwupd daemon are open source projects with contributions from dozens of people from many different companies. Plugins allow many different update protocols to be supported.

Linux Foundation: What are some of the goals of the LVFS project?

Richard Hughes: The short-term goal was to get 95% of updatable consumer hardware supported. With the recent addition of HP that’s now a realistic target, although you have to qualify the 95% with “new consumer non-enterprise hardware sold this year” as quite a few vendors will only support hardware no older than a few years at most, and most still charge for firmware updates for enterprise hardware. My long-term goal is for the LVFS to be seen like a boring, critical part of infrastructure in Linux, much like you’d consider an NTP server for accurate time, or a PGP keyserver for trust.

With the recent Spectre and Meltdown issues hitting the industry, firmware updates are no longer seen as something that just adds support for new hardware or fixes the occasional hardware issue. Now the EFI BIOS is a fully fledged operating system with networking capabilities, companies and government agencies are realizing that firmware updates are as important as kernel updates, and many are now writing in “must support LVFS” as part of any purchasing policy.

Linux Foundation: How can the community learn more and get involved?

Richard Hughes: The LVFS is actually just a Python Flask project, and it’s all free code. If there’s a requirement that you need supporting, either as an OEM, ODM, company, or end user we’re really pleased to talk about things either privately in email, or as an issue or pull request on GitHub. If a vendor wants a custom flashing protocol added to fwupd, the same rules apply, and we’re happy to help.

Quite a few vendors are testing the LVFS and fwupd in private, and we agree to only do the public announcement when everything is working and the legal and PR teams gives the thumbs up. From a user point of view, we certainly need to tell hardware vendors to support fwupd and the LVFS, before the devices are sitting on shelves.

We also have a low-volume LVFS announce mailing list, or a user fwupd mailing list for general questions. Quite a few people are helping to spread the word, by giving talks at local LUGs or conferences, or presenting information in meetings or elsewhere. I’m happy to help with that, too.

  DayZ launches on Xbox (update) Base Building to be added!
Posted by: xSicKx - 03-27-2019, 12:41 PM - Forum: New Game Releases - No Replies

[Image: dayz-screenshot.jpg?itok=D4hUxt0j]

DayZ is an open world multiplayer game which found popularity on PC some years ago. The goal is for players to survive on a post-apocalyptic map for as long as they can. Many gamers consider DayZ a hardcore experience because there are no tips, waypoints, tutorials, or lives. If you make a mistake and get killed, you lose everything and have to start from the beginning.

[Image: apps.29273.69886306496288395.9772e69a-b6...=300&w=200]
Xbox One X Enhanced

The post-soviet country of Chernarus is struck by an unknown virus, turning the majority population into frenzied infected. Fighting over resources has bred a hostile mentality among survivors, driving what’s left of humanity to collapse. You are one of the few immune to the virus - how far will you go to survive?

A few years ago, Bohemia Interactive announced that DayZ would be coming to Xbox Game Preview "soon". Luckily, that day has arrived because it's now available on Xbox One. The game costs $39.99 (a trial is available) and features Xbox One X enhancements. The developer previously stated that the team was targeting 4K 30 FPS and 1080p 60 FPS modes on the console. However, it's unclear if that option is available in the current Xbox Game Preview build.

DayZ gets base building on Xbox One soon, promises mouse and keyboard support

[Image: dayz-xbox.jpg?itok=EKAXjBhu]

DayZ is an open world multiplayer game which found popularity on PC some years ago. The goal is for players to survive on a post-apocalyptic map for as long as they can. Many gamers consider DayZ a hardcore experience because there are no tips, waypoints, tutorials, or lives. If you make a mistake and get killed, you lose everything and have to start from scratch with absolutely nothing. Just like other titles in the genre, scavenging resources is the focus.

DayZ launched in the Xbox Game Preview program a few months ago, and since then the title hasn't received a lot of substantial features. Luckily, that's about to change on November 22, 2018. Today, developer Bohemia Interactive stated that base building and new vehicles will be added to the game in the coming days. It's the "biggest game update" the team has done so far because it also brings a lot of quality-of-life improvements to experience.

However, the post also promised future updates to the interface to make it better on consoles, and an overhaul of the inventory. There are a lot of areas that need to be improved before the game is really to exit out of Xbox Game Preview.

Lastly, at X018, Microsoft announced that mouse and keyboard support was coming to Xbox One. DayZ is one of the games that will take advantage of this new feature. Unfortunately, support will most likely not be implemented before the game leave Xbox Game Preview.
