News - Alien: Romulus Will Release On VHS, Something No Major Studio Has Done In 18
It's apparently been 18 years since a major studio has released a movie on VHS, but that drought will be broken when Alien: Romulus comes out for the outdated platform on December 3. That's right: An actual tape of the sci-fi horror movie is getting made, though it will be a limited edition. The official Alien account on X shared that Alien: Romulus writer/director Fede Álvarez revealed the special VHS release at Beyond Fest over the weekend. Artist Matt Ferguson has created the cover for the tape, which will come out at the same time as the Alien: Romulus Blu-ray. The previous major studio release on VHS was reportedly A History of Violence in 2006, according to Inverse. 20th Century Studios--now owned by Disney--is behind the Alien: Romulus VHS launch. There apparently is a bit of debate about whether A History of Violence actually was the last big VHS release. Some people point to Eragon (also from 20th Century) in 2007, while Disney apparently put out a Cars VHS. However, both of these runs were arguably quite limited in scope. News - Call Of Duty Anti-Cheat Was Falsely Banning Legitimate Players, But All Accou
Activision's anti-cheat software, Ricochet, was falsely banning legitimate players, causing a stir in the Call of Duty community as people spoke out about how they were penalized when they did nothing wrong. Activision recently owned up to this, saying only a "small number" of legitimate players were impacted for Modern Warfare III and Warzone, and those who were impacted have had their bans reversed. So what happened here? Activision said players found a workaround in a Ricochet detection system for Modern Warfare III and Warzone that allowed them to target legitimate players. In essence, people found a way to go after people they wanted to see get banned, even if they did nothing wrong. All legitimate accounts that were impacted have been restored, Activision said, going on to further note that it will conduct an "examination of our systems" to try to prevent this from happening again. News - Dune: Messiah Might Arrive Sooner Than Expected
Following the release of Dune: Part Two earlier this year, director Denis Villeneuve suggested that he might take an extended break from the franchise before returning for a third film based on Dune: Messiah. However, Villeneuve has changed his mind and he's now looking to get back to the story on Arrakis as soon as possible. "Let's say that I thought that after Part Two that I will take a break, that I will go back in the woods and stay in the woods for a while to recover," Villeneuve told Deadline. "But the woods weren't really suiting me, and I would go back behind the camera faster than I think. But that's all I can say." Earlier this year, Villeneuve lined up the rights to adapt Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen's nonfiction book Nuclear War: A Scenario. The director has also hinted at other projects he had in the works besides Dune. If Dune: Messiah is starting sooner than expected, then the status of those films is currently unknown.
