This year’s annual Minecraft Live online event set for Oct. 3 at 12 ET
Did that trailer not explain what Minecraft Live is? Well, it shouldn’t have to. That’s what this post is for, allegedly. Minecraft Live is the new version of our annual live show, which has had many names such as MINECON Live and MINECON Earth. Why the name change? Would you ask rap superstar and underrated actor Sean Combs a.k.a P. Diddy a.a.k.a Puff Daddy that? No, you would not. What you will do instead is tune in to Minecraft Live on October 3rd at 12 ET to get answers to pertinent questions about what the rest of Mojang Studios have been working on all year. Will Seanothy and I be there? Maybe. I need to check our schedule.
The Minecraft Live team begged me to focus on the actual event, so I guess I better mention what you can expect. The main thing you need to know is that this year the celebration takes place online. Due to the impact of Covid-19, Mojang Studios has delayed Minecraft Festival until 2022 and will no longer be involved with official community events. Until then, we’re going to bring the party directly to your device and we’ve got all of our usual goodies lined up for you! Join us on Minecraft.net/live for updates, mob votes, news, and delightful banter. Oh, and chickens. Lots and lots of chickens.

There’s A Super Mario Splatfest Scheduled For Splatoon 2 Next January
Splatoon 2 will host a special Super Mario-themed Splatfest in January to commemorate the mascot’s 35th anniversary. The event was announced (as if you didn’t know) as part of the Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct which Nintendo dropped on the internet earlier today.
For those not in the know, Splatfests are weekend contests in Nintendo’s team-based third-person shooter where players pick a side and battle online to find out which of two ‘things’ are better: ketchup or mayo, fish or chips, chicken or egg – that sort of thing. At the end of the tournament, scores are tallied and results decided with a (slightly odd) best-out-of-three system. Good, harmless (and quite random) fun!
Nintendo stopped hosting regular Splatfests a while ago, although it has run a couple of one-off ‘bonus’ competitions in recent months. The Super Mario Splatfest scheduled for January will see Team Super Mushroom taking on the invincible might of Team Super Star:
In addition to the Splatfest itself, special key chains will be released as My Nintendo rewards, along with physical (and rather natty-looking) Splatfest t-shirts that will go up for sale ‘soon’ (or now, in fact) on the My Nintendo Store in your region.
So, which team are you edging towards? Think you’d look good in one of those tees? Let us know if you’re more into Stars or Mushrooms below.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Will Finally Get Mario-Themed Furniture
Nintendo is celebrating the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. with a number of new games and other surprises, including a special update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons players. During the September 3 Nintendo Direct, the company announced that Super Mario-themed furniture items will be coming to New Horizons in March 2021. We don't know too many details, but it's yet another way to personalize your island to best fit your style.
Mario furniture and other items have long been a staple of the Animal Crossing series. Every game in the series to date--aside from New Horizons--has included a series of Mario furniture items, and originally, you could only get them through special events and promotions. However, in Animal Crossing: New Leaf on 3DS, you could buy special Fortune Cookies at Nook's shop using Play Coins, which you earned outside the game by using the 3DS' pedometer. All the Fortune Cookie prizes were Nintendo-themed and spanned Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, and more Nintendo series.
In previous Animal Crossing games, the Mario furniture series included a Fire Flower, a Super Mushroom, and a Green Pipe with a Piranha Plant coming out of it. There are also items from Mario Kart, like the Triple Red Shells and the Kart itself, as well as flooring and wallpaper themed after Super Mario Bros. World 1-1.
Following concerns from its shareholders about Apple allegedly aiding China censorship, the company has published a formal document stating its commitment to upholding human rights.
While Tim Cook has said in front of the House of Judiciary that Apple supports human rights, the company has now formally stated its position in the form of its first-ever policy document on the topic. It comes after shareholders have pressured Apple, both in votes at shareholder meetings and via a petition.
“At Apple, we are optimistic about technology’s awesome potential for good,” says Cook in a statement at the start of the new document. “But we know that it won’t happen on its own. Every day, we work to infuse the devices we make with the humanity that makes us.”
The document, called “Our Commitment to Human Rights,” is 1,400-word pledge about how Apple treats people and the way it sees technology’s role in protecting human rights. It’s chiefly a description of principles, but does include some more specific details.
“Our approach is based on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights,” it says. “We conduct human rights due diligence to identify risks and work to mitigate them. We seek to remedy adverse impacts, track and measure our progress, and report our findings.”
“We believe that dialogue and engagement are the best ways to work toward building a better world,” it continues. “In keeping with the UN Guiding Principles, where national law and international human rights standards differ, we follow the higher standard. Where they are in conflict, we respect national law while seeking to respect the principles of internationally recognized human rights.”
Tim Cook’s quote at the start of Apple’s new policy document
Apple’s document does not give a reason for why it is being published now, but it does follow continued pressure from shareholders. According to Sondhya Gupta of the campaigning organisation SumOfUs, it has been published in order to beat Apple’s own September 5 deadline for shareholders to submit motions ahead of next year’s annual meeting.
She says that at the 2020 shareholders meeting, SumOfUs put forward a proposal against Apple’s alleged cooperation with Chinese censorship, and 40.6% of shareholders voted against Apple to support it.
“Apple’s adoption of a human rights policy is a breakthrough moment and we commend Apple for taking this first step,” says Gupta. “However, we still have questions about how the policy will be implemented and what oversight there will be.”
“We will continue to work alongside shareholders and human rights defenders in dialogue with Apple to ensure the company lives up to this responsibility,” she continued.
SumoOfUs has been petitioning Apple for at least eight years. A previous petition from the organization had to be reworded following a false claim about working conditions in factories making Apple products.
Apple has not as yet commented publicly about its new policy document.
Warm Up Your Vocal Cords, Let’s Sing 2021 Is Heading To Switch In November
There are some things you can count on each year since the Wii era – when we get a new Just Dance instalment, Let’s Sing is never far behind.
Recently the good old folks at Ravenscourt and Voxler revealed that the long-awaited Let’s Sing 2021 will indeed land on the Switch on 13th November. With classics such as Seal’s Kiss from a Rose and new popular songs from Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande, there is something here for everyone in this 30-song tracklist. Even Panic at the Disco get a look-in here – remember them?
Up to four players can get involved in the singalong, using smartphones or USB microphones. The in-game “Singing Analysis” feature will reward players with medals for their crooning and you can even compete on the online leaderboards or give the Pop Chicken mini-game a try, which will let you win some mystery boxes.
It all sounds rather lovely if you have a penchant for bursting into song spontaneously. Will you pick this up for your festive celebrations later this year?

Known Issues
We understand some issues have been listed in previous Xbox Insider Release Notes. These items aren’t being ignored, but it will take Xbox engineers more time to find a solution.
We’re still tracking these known issues:
Audio
Users who have Dolby Atmos enabled and console display settings set to 120hz with 36 bits per pixel (12-bit) are experiencing loss of Dolby Atmos audio in some situations.
Workaround: Disable 120hz or set Video Fidelity to 30 bits per pixel (10-bit) or lower.
Some users have reported that Dolby Atmos for Headphones audio setting changes when the console is rebooted/updated.
Note: If you attempt to set the audio to Dolby Atmos for Headphones and see a message advising you to launch the Dolby Access App, please file feedback before launching the app.
Game DVR
Some users have reported that clips are being recorded without audio. We are aware and investigating.
Note: When reporting the issue, please be sure to include details about what resolution, length, and game you were trying to record.
Guide
Some users have reported that the audio mixer cannot be used to adjust chat/game audio levels.
My Games & Apps
Users have reported seeing black tiles instead of game artwork when browsing their collection.
Note: We are still investigating the issue, please report the issue again from the console if you have done so with a prior update and are still seeing this behavior.
Some titles in collection may appear with a “trial” tag incorrectly in collection.
New Store Experience
Some titles may display a “Not currently available” message on the product page and will be unavailable to purchase
Note: Users can use the Microsoft Store on the web or Windows to complete purchases for these items.
Users will not be able to use the “gifting” option for both Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles at this time.
Users will not be able to use the “Build a bundle” functionality at this time
Workaround: Create the bundle via the Microsoft Store on the web or Windows.
Xbox Design Lab customization is not currently supported.
Workaround: Use the Microsoft Store on the web or Windows to purchase.
Profile Color
Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.
Make sure to use Report a problem to keep us informed of your issue. We may not be able to respond to everyone, but the data we’ll gather is crucial to finding a resolution.
