AppleInsider - How to turn automatic iOS update downloads on or off

How to turn automatic iOS update downloads on or off

Apple’s latest iOS 13.6 and iPadOS 13.6 releases include a new Settings toggle that allows the device to automatically download future software updates. Here is how to turn automatic downloads of iOS updates on or off.

Apple has long allowed iPhone and iPad users to automatically install software updates overnight after they were manually downloaded. The new feature in iOS 13.6 and iPadOS 13.6 further automates the process by downloading new operating system versions without user intervention. That said, the system still alerts users before installing the software.

A new message that reads “iPhone will automatically download updates over Wi-Fi” is placed under the new toggle below the Automatic header in the Software Update panel.

To enable automatic iOS update downloads:

  • Head to Settings
  • Go to General > Software Update > Customize Automatic Updates
  • Enable the “Download iOS Updates” toggle

Users may prefer to turn off automatic iOS update downloads so they can manually initiate the download at a preferred time, such as when they are at a home or work with faster Wi-Fi or if their home Wi-Fi has a data limit. Major iOS updates can be up to a few gigabytes in size.

Microsoft - Female Founders Competition winners announced
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 07-16-2020, 06:52 AM - Forum: Windows - No Replies

Female Founders Competition winners announced

Deeptech — Global Winners : iLoF — Oxford, UK

iLoF uses AI and photonics to build a cloud-based library of disease biomarkers, initially focusing on the biggest epidemic of our time: Alzheimer’s disease.

How does it feel to be a winner of the Female Founders Competition?
It’s an honor to be selected as a winner from such an inspiring and trail-blazing group of women-led deeptech companies from all over the globe. We are immensely excited to be able to join M12, Mayfield and Melinda Gates’ Pivotal Ventures in the fight for increased diversity, and to be able to do our small part in supporting an environment of inclusion, openness and acceptance. As we begin this next phase in our journey with the backing and support of world-renowned investors, we believe we will be able to fast-track the development and deployment of our platform and our vision.

Clockwise from the top left: Mehak Mumtaz, Joana Paiva, and Paula Sampaio pitch iLoF remotely to Tamara Steffens from M12 at the Female Founders Competition Finals Event

How has your offering impacted customers to date?
Using our non-invasive, low-cost and agnostic platform, we are transforming the drug discovery and development process, creating value for customers in a wide range of applications.
In our main focus area, Alzheimer’s disease, we have enabled a promising biotech to validate a new nano-sized therapeutic biomarker. At the same time, we are providing a public hospital with a tool to screen thousands of patients for a clinical trial in a non-invasive and patient-centric way.

How do you plan to use the funding from the Female Founders Competition?
We at iLoF are on a mission to enable a new era of personalized medicine, by helping the industry develop precise and personalized treatments for patients. This investment will be used to fast track our collaboration with one of our industry partners for development of a treatment for Alzheimer’s, while also accelerating our work in two additional verticals: oncology and cardiovascular disease.

What advice do you have for other female founders who are fundraising right now?

1. Find other female founders to share and learn from each other, leverage communities or build your own.

2. Identify female-led startup role models, reach out to them and get them to show you the ropes.

3. Be prepared, understand the process, know your numbers and practice, practice, practice.

4. Brace yourself for rejections and learn to reframe them into learning opportunities.

Follow iLoF on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook.

One Line Coloring Is A Connect-The-Dots Style Puzzler Coming To Switch

If you prefer life on the more relaxing end of the gaming scale, you might want to keep an eye out for One Line Coloring which launches on Switch next month.

Inspired by Connect-the-dots (or dot-to-dot, as you might call it), One Line Coloring has players drawing objects line-by-line, slowly transforming them from a series of dots to a living, breathing animation. Some objects are instantly recognisable, but others will have you second-guessing as you slowly fill in each section.

Apparently, each model you fill in is actually part of a bigger picture; the ultimate goal is to uncover all of the different shapes, completing each of these dioramas. As you can tell from the trailer above, everything about it just oozes relaxation. Here are some key features:

ONE LINE COLORING OFFERS:
– Over 100 carefully designed models to uncover and collect
– 6 unique themes to showcase completed models
– Playful scenes presented as dioramas for players to create
-Pastel, eye-catching visuals to relax our mind
– Engaging dot connecting mechanics to spice up the gameplay
– Fresh twist to a classic, dot-to-dot games
– Creative puzzles easy for children, engaging for adults

The game launches on Nintendo Switch on 21st August and will be priced at $6.99.

Are you liking what you see? Do you like playing puzzle games on Switch? Let us know in the comments.

News - Peacock Is A Disappointing And Underwhelming Streaming Service

Peacock Is A Disappointing And Underwhelming Streaming Service

NBCUniversal's Peacock has arrived, but if you're like most people around the world, there's a good chance you won't be able to watch it on your favorite TV, as it's not available on Roku or Amazon devices. With other major services like HBO Max--which has the same Roku and Amazon issue--and the dead-on-arrival Quibi also launching this year, where does Peacock fit?

Sadly, the service--which had a soft launch earlier this year for Xfinity users--is a letdown from the get-go. Accessing a new streaming service shouldn't be an issue. Accessibility should be the least problematic thing about it, yet here we are. As mentioned, Peacock is not available on Roku and Amazon, which combined have over 72 million active users. Additionally, PS4 users won't be able to use Peacock until the week of July 20.

It also isn't available on Samsung smart TVs. You can, however, use one of Xfinity's (Comcast) proprietary boxes to watch Peacock. Comcast users have the easiest time accessing this, but if you're like me and want nothing to do with Comcast, then your options are limited.

Mobile - Get free in-game goodies for demon-slaying RPG Darkness Rises!

Get free in-game goodies for demon-slaying RPG Darkness Rises!

If you’re a person who enjoys the simple things, like running through a dungeon, blending your foes with whirling blades, or facing off against fearsome bosses, then we might have something for you. After our giveaway of the JRPG, Emergent Fates last week, we are now giving away a fair few Android treasure codes for the action-packed, Darkness Rises. It’s a great looking RPG, crossing the hack-n-slash of games like Diablo with challenging boss battles, as you hold the line against a seemingly endless wave of demonic incursions.

Sounds like fun, right? Darkness Rises also has great character customisation options to give you that authentic RPG experience, and some elements of dungeon crawling. You don’t have delve dungeons alone either, as you can join a guild with your adventurer pals, and form a party to take the fight to those demon scoundrels.

Though Darkness Rises launched last year, it still feels pretty chipper with its graphical realism and gorgeous fantasy visuals. If you’re going to murder demons, why not do it in style?

If you’d like to get your hands on an Android code, simply fill in the Gleam form below. We do need your full name and email address so we can contact you in a week’s time if you win though, and we also require that you read our full terms and conditions before you enter. You can find them right here.

PT – Darkness Rises – Android giveaway

Each Android code lets you get your hands on the following in-game:

  • 5 x Costume Chest (Rank A – S++)
  • 500 x Adventure Key
  • 20,000,000 Gold
  • 20 x EXP Boost Ticket
  • 20 x Choice Dye Ticket
  • 10 Costume Deco Chest (Rank A – S++)

Be sure to enter if you want the free stuff! You can find Darkness Rises on Google Play and the App Store. If you also want some other games to sink your teeth into, try out list of the best mobile RPGs.

News - Netflix’s Dragon’s Dogma Anime Will Arrive This September

Netflix’s Dragon’s Dogma Anime Will Arrive This September

Netflix has already turned the Castlevania video game series by Konami into a highly successful animated show. Now, following in its footsteps is a new anime based on Capcom’s action role-playing game, Dragon’s Dogma. It’s launching on 17th of September.

As previously noted in the original announcement, back in 2019, the anime will be created by Sublimation, and in partnership with Anima and David Production. Here’s the story outline from Netflix, along with some screens:

Ethan sets out to vanquish the Dragon that took his heart, but with every demon he battles, the more he loses his humanity.

Is this the anime adaptation you’ve been waiting for? Leave a comment down below.

  [Tut] Python Ternary Multiple Lines
Posted by: xSicKxBot - 07-15-2020, 05:43 PM - Forum: Python - No Replies

Python Ternary Multiple Lines

What if you have a ternary operator that’s very long?

var = 'I want to learn Python' if 42**2<166 else 'I want to learn Go programming'
print(var)
# I want to learn Go programming

Problem: How to write the ternary operator in multiple lines?

Short Recap: Ternary Operator

Ternary Operator: The most basic ternary operator x if c else y consists of three operands x, c, and y. It is an expression with a return value. The ternary operator returns x if the Boolean expression c evaluates to True. Otherwise, if the expression c evaluates to False, the ternary operator returns the alternative y.

Syntax: The three operands are written as x if c else y which reads as “return x if c else return y“. Let’s write this more intuitively as:

<OnTrue> if <Condition> else <OnFalse>

Operand Description
<OnTrue> The return expression of the operator in case the condition evaluates to True
<Condition> The condition that determines whether to return the <On True> or the <On False> branch.
<OnFalse> The return expression of the operator in case the condition evaluates to False
Operands of the Ternary Operator

Related article: For a full tutorial on the ternary operator, check out our detailed blog article.

Method: Parenthesis to Extend Logical Line Over Multiple Physical Lines

Solution: You can extend any logical line in Python over multiple physical lines by using the parenthesis.

var = 'I want to learn Python' if 42**2<166 else 'I want to learn Go programming'
print(var) var = ('I want to learn Python' if 42**2<166 else 'I want to learn Go programming')
print(var)
# I want to learn Go programming

This is the PEP8 standard way of breaking long lines—if you cannot do it in a more natural way (such as avoiding the ternary operator and using the if statement in this example).

Try it yourself:

Exercise: Write a nested ternary operator and break it into multiple lines!
