Update: Microsoft has now confirmed that production on both the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition will be stopped in the lead up to the Xbox Series X launch. The Xbox One S will continue to be sold.
"As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we're taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition," Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge. "Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally."
The move paves the way for Microsoft to establish a new lineup of consoles with the Xbox One S as the budget-priced model and Xbox Series X as a higher-priced alternative. Although it has not announced the model yet, Microsoft is widely expected to launch a cheaper version of the Series X that's codenamed Lockhart.

Xbox chief Phil Spencer on the future of gaming
Games are a source of joy, inspiration, and social connection. They have the power to bring us together, create empathy, and strengthen our social fabric. As we prepare for the next generation, our efforts to make gaming more inclusive, more immersive, more connected, and more social are as relevant and important as ever.
At Xbox, we listen to what you – players, game developers, and content creators – tell us you want from the future of gaming. Based on your feedback, we’re building a future where you and your friends can play the deepest, most immersive and interactive games ever created across your Xbox console, PC, and mobile devices.
At the dawn of the next generation, it’s important to be clear about what you can expect from the future of Xbox.
Our vision has one hero at the heart of it all: You.
And today, I want to share our commitments to you:
You will always be welcome. We are building Xbox for you—players from all walks of life, everywhere in the world. We want to make your Xbox community safe, accessible, and welcoming – a place where you can have fun. As we say in our community standards, harassment and hate take many forms, but none have a home on Xbox. Should you feel others are behaving in ways that violate the standards, our safety team will investigate your report and support you 24/7/365 around the globe. And we continue to accelerate new technology to reduce hate speech and toxicity, giving you the tools to create the safe gaming community you want to play in.
In addition to tools, we commit to bringing more diverse stories to Xbox for you to enjoy. We are empowering creators of diverse backgrounds to develop new stories, advocating for an authentic and respectful representation in games, and championing accessibility so that all can play. Additionally, more than 300,000 Xbox Ambassadors give their time and passion to making Xbox the best place to play and we invite all players to join us on that mission. We still have so much more work to do and will not stop until everyone who plays feels welcome, heard, and valued.
Your games will look and play best on Xbox Series X. Xbox Series X is designed to deliver a new level of fidelity, feel, performance and precision never seen before in console gaming. All games will look and play best on Xbox Series X – whether they come from our 15 Xbox Game Studios, like Halo Infinite, or from our world-class publisher and developer partners. Packing over 12 teraflops of GPU power including new technologies like hardware-accelerated Direct X raytracing and variable rate shading, and with four times the processing power of an Xbox One X, Xbox Series X enables developers to provide you with transformative gaming experiences through richer, more dynamic living worlds, more realistic AI and animations, and support for higher frame rates including support for up to 120 FPS.
Xbox Series X also enables you to spend less time waiting and more time playing, as it virtually eliminates load times with the 40x boost in I/O throughput from last generation. With our custom next-generation SSD and Xbox Velocity Architecture, nearly every aspect of playing games is improved. Game worlds are larger, more dynamic and load in a flash, and fast travel is just that – fast. The Xbox Velocity Architecture also powers new platform capabilities like Quick Resume, which enables you to seamlessly switch between multiple titles and resume instantly from where you last left off without waiting through long loading screens. Right now, Xbox Series X is in the hands of our 15 Xbox Game Studios teams and thousands of third-party developers, empowering them to create a new generation of blockbuster games for you to enjoy.
You play new games day one with Xbox Game Pass. All Xbox Game Studios titles launch into Xbox Game Pass the same day as their global release, so you decide whether to purchase each game separately or play them all with your Xbox Game Pass membership. Xbox Game Studios franchises that will launch into Game Pass day one of release include Halo, Forza, Age of Empires, Gears of War, Minecraft, Hellblade, The Outer Worlds, Psychonauts, Microsoft Flight Simulator, State of Decay, Wasteland, Minecraft DungeonsandSea of Thieves—and more new franchises in early development. So, when Halo Infinite launches, you and your friends can decide whether to purchase the game or play it with Xbox Game Pass.
You won’t be forced into the next generation. We want every Xbox player to play all the new games from Xbox Game Studios. That’s why Xbox Game Studios titles we release in the next couple of years—like Halo Infinite—will be available and play great on Xbox Series X and Xbox One. We won’t force you to upgrade to Xbox Series X at launch to play Xbox exclusives.
Your games will not be left behind, thanks to backward compatibility. You will be able to play four generations of games on Xbox Series X on day one. That makes it the largest launch lineup for any new console ever, with thousands of games to play. Our backward compatibility engineers have spent years devising innovative ways for modern, next-gen technology to make the games library you’re building today even better, at no additional cost and with no work from developers. It’s our intent for all Xbox One games that do not require Kinect to play on Xbox Series X at the launch of the console. And because of the unprecedented power of Xbox Series X, most of your favorite games will load faster and look and perform many times better on the new console.
Your Xbox One gaming accessories come into the future with you, too. The Xbox Elite Controller and Xbox Adaptive Controller all work on Xbox Series X, so you don’t have to purchase new controllers. We believe that your investments in gaming should move with you into the next generation.
You can buy games once at no added cost. With our new Smart Delivery technology, you don’t need to buy the same game twice – once for the current console generation and once for the next generation. You always have the best available version of supported games on whatever Xbox console you are playing on, at no additional cost. If you own a title that supports Smart Delivery like Destiny 2, Gears 5 and Halo Infinite, you automatically have access to the version that plays best on your Xbox console. Highly anticipated games from the world’s biggest developers, like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla,Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel’s Avengers and more have already committed to supporting Smart Delivery and more will be announced soon.
Xbox Play Anywhere digital titles also enable you to buy once and play on both Xbox consoles and Windows 10 PCs.
You choose how to jump into the next generation of gaming. We hear from you that you prefer choice and value. With Xbox All Access, you can get Xbox Series X, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for a low monthly price with no up-front costs, no finance charges and no hidden fees. You get to enjoy an instant library of over 100 high-quality games, join friends with online multiplayer, and experience new Xbox Game Studios titles the day they release, including Halo Infinite, on the fastest, most powerful Xbox ever.
You are in control of a healthy and balanced gaming lifestyle. If you are a parent, guardian or caregiver, the new Xbox Family Settings app (Preview) for iOS and Android provides a simple and convenient way to create child accounts, customize family settings, and ensure that your kids have access to gaming that you feel is appropriate.
You will get more from your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership. Finally, today we’re announcing that this September, in supported countries, we’re bringing Xbox Game Pass and Project xCloud together at no additional cost for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. With cloud gaming in Game Pass Ultimate, you will be able to play over 100 Xbox Game Pass titles on your phone or tablet. And because Xbox Live connects across devices, you can play along with the nearly 100 million Xbox Live players around the world. So when Halo Infinite launches, you and your friends can play together and immerse yourselves in the Halo universe as Master Chief—anywhere you go and across devices.
Cloud gaming in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate means your games are no longer locked to the living room. You can connect more than ever with friends and family through gaming. And just like you do with your movie and music streaming services, when cloud gaming launches into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you can continue your game wherever you left off on any of your devices.
When you add it all up, Xbox Series X is the only next generation console that lets you play new blockbuster games at the highest console fidelity, enjoy the latest blockbuster games the day they launch for one monthly price, play four generations of your games at higher fidelity than ever before, and play with friends wherever you want across your TV, PC, and mobile device. And with Xbox All Access, you can jump into the next generation for one low monthly payment and no up-front costs.
The future of gaming has never been more exciting and limitless. It’s a future you’ll explore on your terms, not constrained by restrictive policies. Where your gaming legacy will not be left behind and where you will not be locked out of new exclusive Xbox Game Studios games even if you choose to stay with your current console for a while.
It’s a future where you and your friends play the most immersive, responsive, and vivid games together on every screen in your life, and where games reach across the world and bring you stories you’ve never experienced before. It’s a future in which you get more value from your games. And where everyone is welcome.
We hope you’ll join us next Thursday, July 23rd for the Xbox Games Showcase for the first look at the Halo Infinite Campaign and more.
Round Up: The Paper Mario: The Origami King Reviews Are In
In just a couple of days’ time, we’ll all be jumping and hammering our way into Paper Mario: The Origami King on Switch. If you’ve already visited our homepage today, you’ll have spotted that reviews for the game have now gone live. So, what do the critics think?
Below, we’ve rounded up a selection of quotes and review scores from a number of different outlets. The response is mostly positive, although there are a fair few complaints that are pretty consistent across the board. Before we dive in, we’d naturally like to urge you to check out our very own review:
OK, now you’ve read that, let’s see just how well (or not) the game has gone down with other critics around the world:
GamesRadar noted a ‘wildly varying’ difficultly level among other little issues, but otherwise came away impressed, awarding the game 4.5 out of 5:
Gripes aside though, the latest Paper Mario title is a joy to exist in. An excellent story, charming characters, and the ability to team up with your oldest foes makes The Origami King a triumph. Yes, it may not be the new Thousand-Year Door RPG, but it’s something special that should be celebrated.
This is by far the best Paper Mario game in a great long while, and if you can accept it’s not quite an RPG by most people’s definitions, and instead appreciate a sprawling, beautiful action adventure with turn-based combat, a great script, and a sublime soundtrack, you’ll have a wonderful time.
Gamespot says that the battle system ‘revitalises the series’, while also noting that the game’s characters aren’t as charming as past games. It awarded the game an 8/10:
With a newfound combat system that steals the show and offers a novel take on turn-based combat, its winking, nodding, and adventuring shine all the brighter. Its world and characters might not be the series’ best, but it’s still able to consistently throw left turns, good gags, and smart surprises at you.
As a series, Paper Mario constantly explores new concepts and mechanics, which is exciting, but that comes with plenty of risks. Origami King’s biggest chances don’t pay off in a satisfying way. I enjoyed Mario’s hijinks and all the misfits he encounters, but the new ring-based action needs refinement.
Eurogamer called it ‘a heartfelt creation that doesn’t quite stand up’:
There’s plenty I’d recommend about The Origami King, a journey generous with its humour, its spread of locations, its continual sense of adventure in Mario’s bid to defeat the evil Origami King… But each time the game changed settings, every time it swapped in a new party member, whenever I cleared another boss, I expected it to grow the shoots it had begun to set out and dig in a little deeper. For all of the game’s sense of personality and place, it never grows into anything weightier.
VGC wasn’t fully impressed either, awarding the game a 3/5:
The Origami King contains some of the series’ absolute standout moments – almost all of them related to its enjoyable script and wonderful, varied environments – but it also frustrates with some disappointing new features and all-too-familiar missteps.
Finally, IGN gave the game a 7/10, describing it as ‘truly likeable’ despite feeling that the combat is ‘largely unfulfilling’:
The Origami King is a truly likeable game despite the shallowness of its new spin on gameplay. Its characters are winsome, its visual design is gorgeous, its world is fun to explore, and its storytelling is outside the box and playful. At the same time, however, it could be so much more. Combat is largely unfulfilling, and your journey as a whole lacks meaningful choices. For a series with RPG roots, that’s a real shame.
Paper Mario: The Origami King launches on 17th July and is available to buy either digitally from the Switch eShop, or physically at retail. Are you looking forward to playing the game this Friday? Let us know in the comments.

Star Wars Actor Alden Ehrenreich Would Like To Make A Solo Sequel
Solo: A Star Wars Story certainly wasn't the worst Star Wars film,but it was the least profitable, and because of that its chances of getting a sequel are slim. But at least one person at the center of the original movie is keen for a follow-up--Alden Ehrenreich, who played the younger Han Solo.
In an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, picked up on by GameSpot sister site Comicbook.com, Ehrenreich has talked about where he would like to go with a Solo sequel. Asked if would like to come back, the actor said that he would, but that "it would have to be the right version of it."
Ehrenreich says that the movie ends at the point where his favorite aspect of the character is starting to kick in. "It’s when he becomes that guy at the end, that’s the guy we love," he says. "So getting to that, and going from there is interesting, so we’ll see."

Python Ternary Elif
Summary: To use an elif branch in the ternary operator, use another ternary operator as the result of the else branch (nested ternary operator). The nested ternary operator x if c0 else y if c1 else z returns x if condition c0 is met, else if (elif) condition c1 is met, it returns y, else it returns z.
Problem: You may have seen the ternary operator x if c else y. Is there a similar ternary operator with an additional elif statement? In pseudocode, you want something like:
# Pseudocode x if c elif y0 else y1
In other words: What’s the best way of extending the ternary operator to what you may call a “quaternary” operator?
Background: The most basic ternary operator x if c else y consists of three operands x, c, and y. It is an expression with a return value. The ternary operator returns x if the Boolean expression c evaluates to True. Otherwise, if the expression c evaluates to False, the ternary operator returns the alternative y.
Example: Say, you want to write the following if-then-else condition in a single line of code:
>>> x = 42
>>> if x > 42:
>>> print("no")
>>> elif x == 42:
>>> print("yes")
>>> else:
>>> print("maybe")
yes
The elif branch wins: you print the output "yes" to the shell.
But how to do it in a single line of code? Just use the ternary operator with an elif statement won’t work (it’ll throw a syntax error):
Method: Nested Ternary Operator
The answer is simple: nest two ternary operators like so:
>>> print("no") if x > 42 else print("yes") if x == 42 else print("maybe")
yes
If the value x is larger than 42, we print “no” to the shell. Otherwise, we execute the remainder of the code (which is a ternary operator by itself). If the value x is equal to 42, we print “yes”, otherwise “maybe”.
So by nesting multiple ternary operators, we can greatly increase our Python one-liner power!
Try it yourself:
Exercise: Which method is more concise? Count the number of characters (or write a small script that does it for you ;))!
Python Ternary Multiple Elif
In the previous example, you’ve seen how a nested ternary operator semantically adds an elif branch. In theory, you can add an arbitrary number of elif branches by nesting more and more ternary operators:
# Method 1: If ... Elif ... Else
x = 42
if x > 42: y = 1
elif x == 42: y = 2
elif x == 12: y = 3
else: y = 4
print(y)
# 2 # Method 2: Nested Ternary Operator
y = 1 if x > 42 else 2 if x == 42 else 3 if x == 12 else 4
print(y)
# 2
However, readability suffers badly and you shouldn’t do anything of the sort. A simple mult-line if ... elif ... elif ... else statement is better!
Discussion
However, even if the nested ternary operator is more concise than an if-elif-else statement, it’s not recommended because of readability of your code. Most programmers don’t have any trouble understanding a simple if-elif-else statement. But a nested ternary operator is an advanced-level piece of Python code and especially beginners will struggle understanding it.
So, it’s great that you’ve expanded your One-Liner Superpower. But you should use it wisely!
