My Hero Academia Movie Sequel Surpasses Original In Japanese Box Office

<p>Can someone say sleeper hit? Nine weekends after its initial release in Japan, <a href="https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/funko-reveals-my-hero-academia-pops/2900-2943/">My Hero Academia</a> the movie: Heroes Rising has <a href="https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2020/02/17-1/japan-box-office-my-hero-academia-heroes-rising-finally-surpasses-1st-films-domestic-gross">surpassed the first movie</a> from the franchise, earning $15.75 billion. The film was released in Japan on December 20, and was doing fine, but after nine weekends, the film is now in the top 10 highest-grossing Japanese anime films of 2019.</p><p>The first My Hero Academia movie in the series called <a href="https://www.gamespot.com/articles/my-hero-academia-two-heroes-review-does-the-my-her/1100-6462039/">Two Heroes</a>, made about $5.7 million within two weeks of its release in the US, and with the US release date for the sequel fast approaching, we'll have to see if the film has the same kind of success in the American box office.</p><p dir="ltr">The film will hit the big screen in North America on <a href="https://www.gamespot.com/articles/my-hero-academia-heroes-rising-release-date-confir/1100-6472662/">February 26</a>, and is scheduled to be shown in over 1000 theaters across the US and Canada.
