News - Amazon Raising A Pokemon Game Price To $80 Sets A Worrying Precedent
Pokemon Pokopia might be the sleeper hit of the year, but it's a game that you'll have to shell out a little bit extra for if you're planning to grab it through Amazon. With the game in high demand, Amazon temporarily hiked the price on the physical edition of Pokemon Pokopia up from $70 to $80, but at the time of writing, it has dropped back down to $70--possibly due to some bad press and people complaining online. Still, Amazon could have set a worrying precedent for the future. What makes the situation even stranger is that Pokemon Pokopia is a Game-Key Card release--that means there's no game on the cartridge, as it's essentially an authentication key that you can use to download the game directly to your Switch 2 console and play it so long as it remains inserted. Third-party studios have largely embraced this format for a wide variety of releases, but Pokemon Pokopia is the first Nintendo exclusive to adopt this physical format, which has raised questions amongst video game preservationists about the future of their purchases. Amazon is also offering a digital download code for Pokemon Pokopia at its MSRP for $70, but what's really worrying here is that the company could kickstart a new trend with game releases. After all, if the largest online retail platform can get away with charging more than the listed MSRP, what's to stop other retailers from doing the same? Back when we started to see video game prices increase from $60 to $70 starting in 2020 for standard editions, the industry quickly shifted to this new pricing status quo, and we've even seen Nintendo launch games like Mario Kart World for $80. News - EA Cuts Staff At Battlefield 6 Dev After Game's Massive Initial Success
Battlefield 6 broke records for the franchise and was the top-selling game of 2025 in the US, but that apparently wasn't enough to insulate the dev team from layoffs. EA has laid off staff from across Battlefield Studios, but the exact number of affected employees is currently unknown. According to IGN, EA characterized the layoffs as a "realignment," and all four of the studios under the Battlefield Studios banner--DICE, Ripple Effect Studios, Criterion Games, and Motive Studio--will remain open. "We've made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community," said EA in a statement. "Battlefield remains one of our biggest priorities, and we're continuing to invest in the franchise, guided by player feedback and insights from Battlefield Labs." Continue Reading at GameSpot

News - Another Xbox Game Jumps To PS5 And Switch 2 Very Soon
South of Midnight will be the latest Xbox game to come to a rival system when it lands on PS5 and Switch 2 on March 31. The release date was confirmed today, following the previous announcement that South of Midnight was headed to PS5 and Switch 2 in Spring 2026. Developed by the Microsoft-owned Compulsion Games, South of Midnight launched in April 2025 for PC and Xbox Series X|S. The game is set in the American Deep South and follows the character Hazel, who, along with her mother, is preparing for a huge hurricane. Numerous other Xbox games have landed on rival platforms before this, and one of the next big ones is Halo: Campaign Evolved later this year. It will mark the mainline Halo franchise's debut on a platform other than Xbox or PC. Continue Reading at GameSpot

News - Steam Game Briefly Replaced By A Completely Different, Unannounced Project
Someone at Teyon apparently made a very big mistake today, as Steam players who purchased RoboCop: Rogue City - Unfinished Business found their game completely erased and replaced by a different title that wasn't formally announced. A user on X who goes by Silent was the first to notice that Unfinished Business was swapped out for Hunter: The Reckoning, a project that appears to be based on a spin-off from the World of Darkness tabletop RPGs. As noted in a later post from Edness, the build in question is dated May 20, 2025, and it appears to be very early in its development and far from finished. The Hunter: The Reckoning files were subsequently pulled from Steam and replaced with the originally intended update for Unfinished Business. It's unknown if Hunter: The Reckoning progressed beyond this build or if it will ever come out. There were three Hunter: The Reckoning video games released between 2002-2003, but none since. News - Arc Raiders Was Recording Private Discord DMs
There's a reasonable expectation for privacy that comes with using direct messages, but no should ever count on that. That's what some players may be discovering now that they've learned that Embark Studios' Arc Raiders was recording and storing their Discord DMs. According to Insider Gaming, the issue was uncovered by computer engineer Timothy Meadows. He discovered that when Arc Raiders was linked to players' Discord accounts, it stored their private messages locally on their PCs as well as the Discord tokens needed to access them. If Embark had been intentionally spying on its players, that could have been enough to go through all of their private messages. Embark has already acknowledged the issue and shared a hotfix to take care of it. On the game's Discord channel, Embark stated that "excessive user information" had been saved, and the company assured players that their personal info and messages weren't reviewed or stored outside of their own machines. Embark also disclosed that it will conduct an audit to make sure there are no similar incidents now or in the future. Continue Reading at GameSpot
