New Pokemon Sword And Shield Raid Event Now Live, Features Shiny Wailord
A new Max Raid event has begun in Pokemon Sword and Shield. This one only runs for this weekend, until Sunday, July 19, and it features a variety of different Water-type Pokemon, including Shiny Wailord.
Throughout the event, Kingler, Sharpedo, Pyukumuku, Jellicent, and Mantine will appear in Max Raids much more frequently than normal. Wailord will also be a common sight, and you'll have a chance to encounter a Shiny variant of it in five-star Raids. You'll need to be pretty persistent to find one, however, as it has lower odds of spawning than the other featured Pokemon.
The Sea Pokemon Max Raid event ends at 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET / 11:59 PM UTC on July 19. Before the Pokemon can start appearing in your game, you'll need to refresh your Raid dens. You can do so either by connecting the Y-Comm online or going into Mystery Gift from the menu screen and selecting Get the Wild Area News.
This week at Bungie, we are extending Season of Arrivals.
The launch date for our next expansion, Destiny 2: Beyond Light, has been moved to November 10, 2020. If you missed the full announcement, you can check it out here. We’ll wait until you’ve given it a read…
… Up to speed? While we’re sad to keep the secrets of Europa under wraps for a few extra weeks, our dev team is putting in the work to deliver an adventure that is worthy of your bravery. Doing that work from our homes finds us very far away from our usual ideal of working together in a studio – currently still quarantined. So we’re taking the time we need to do it right under the most challenging of conditions.
With the extra time between September and November, we have some plans to make the most of the suddenly longer Season.
Moments of Triumph will be extended to November 10, 2020. Cutting it close on some of those tougher Triumphs? Here’s a little extra time to finish them off.
The show must go on: Festival of the Lost will now take place during Season of Arrivals, beginning on October 6.
We’re planning a handful of ritual activity modifiers to look forward to:
Increased Valor
Increased Infamy
Increased [REDACTED]
A few additional Iron Banner events between September and November.
And more…
We know that no amount of extra Infamy or Valor will keep your hunger satiated, but we will have a few more surprises to share on the road to launch. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, the pages that appeared on the day we revealed Beyond Light have been updated with all of the new and relevant information. Bookmark ‘em or pass ‘em along to your friends. Some in-game UI elements will not reflect the new launch date until a future update.
Maybe We Are Conquerors
Contrary to what Zavala believes, many among you became Conquerors last Season with the introduction of Grandmaster difficulty Nightfalls. Even though we turned the challenge up to 11, you were able to smash through the ranks of enemy combatants and earn your prize.
While this Season will follow the same flow, completing all available Nightfalls on Grandmaster difficulty to earn the Conqueror title, we made some adjustments to activity rewards to make things feel a bit more fruitful.
Nightfall: The Ordeal
Increase Masterwork material drops for Grandmaster Nightfall difficulty.
Grandmaster completion at Platinum, Gold, and Silver levels now have higher chances of dropping an Exotic armor item.
Grandmaster completion at Platinum level now guarantees one Ascendant Shard (with a small chance at one additional), and four Enhancement Prisms (with a moderate chance at 1-2 additional).
Grandmaster completion at Gold level now guarantees two Enhancement Prisms (with a moderate chance at two additional).
Grandmaster completion at Silver level now has a small chance at two Enhancement Prisms.
So, if you’re on the hunt for that perfectly rolled Exotic armor piece, or if you’re trying to fully masterwork as many armor pieces as possible, it’s almost time to put your skills to the test. Slay the Darkness, claim your loot.
Grandmaster difficulty becomes available on Tuesday, July 21, at 10 AM PT.
Farming With Dogs
Last week was pretty crazy. Bungie Day brought an update to Destiny 2, unlocking a new Exotic quest, new Umbral Engrams, and more. Five raids also entered “featured” status, losing their weekly loot lockouts. In other words, players can play the featured raids multiple times a week to grind out high-stat armor and raid Exotics that they may not have earned yet! If you’ve been taking a swing at the Moments of Triumph objectives this year, you may have also noticed that the Contender’s Ghost Shell from Prestige Leviathan has become available through a Triumph.
In the last few days, an issue came to light that the Contender’s Shell perks also lost their loot lockouts. Combined with some raid encounters that could be completed in under five minutes, this led to an incredibly quick way to earn Bright Engrams, which further increased Legendary Shard and Glimmer earn rates.
As such, the Seeker of Brilliance perk has been temporarily disabled. Our current goal is to have a hotfix in early August that adds the weekly lockout back to this specific perk. Once we have more information on an expected patch date, we’ll let you know via @BungieHelp on Twitter.
As a note, the Seeker of Opulence perk remains active. If you’re looking to round out your Exotic collections or earn better rolls on Exotic armor, equip this Ghost Shell before jumping into Leviathan raids!
Continued Support
Earlier this week, Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.9.1.1 was released, addressing a collection of issues that impacted controller inputs and general gameplay. The Player Support team has a quick list of high-frequency issues that were resolved, and a collection of other bugs that we’re tracking.
This is their report.
BEYOND LIGHT RELEASE DATE
As announced previously, the new release date for Beyond Light will be November 10, 2020. With this change, the end dates for Season of the Arrivals and Moments of Triumph have also been moved to November 10, 2020 at the weekly reset. The implementation of related systems, such as the moving of certain activities to the Destiny Content Vault and the effect of Max Power Level through Infusion, have also been pushed back.
RESOLVED ISSUES
On Tuesday, July 14, we released Hotfix 2.9.1.1. to players. This hotfix included the following resolved issues:
Witherhoard’s projectiles appeared randomly on screen when using abilities or when stowed away.
The reassigned Interact button didn’t revive players on custom controller scheme.
When Glide Jump cancelling, Warlocks and Titans auto-jumped after landing.
Hunters kneeled after dodging when using Hold Crouch, but stood when using Toggle Crouch.
The Fencing Salute Emote allowed players to get out of the environment.
The Emissary Whisperer Triumph has been removed.
Players could get stuck in the Prophecy Dungeon’s hallway between the Wasteland and Hexahedron areas.
CURRENT KNOWN ISSUES
While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:
The Contender’s Ghost Shell’s “Seeker of Brilliance” perk has been temporarily disabled.
Some players can’t progress the “Means to an End” quest. While we continue our investigation, players can progress this quest by using an alternate character or joining another player who has already started the mission.
Players who didn’t claim the reward for completing the “Means to an End” quest in one previous week will be locked out from acquiring and completing it the following week. Players will be able to acquire the quest again the week after the blocked week.
Players unable to launch the “Interference” mission may be able to play through and complete it by joining someone else already in the mission.
We continue to investigate the BEAVER error code appearing frequently on the Steam platform.
For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players can review our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.
Subtweeting
A few weeks back, I challenged Cozmo to write better headlines for the Movie of the Week section. His answer? “Plays Adapted For Movies.”
This was an obvious reference to our favorite musical recently hitting a streaming service, but I still think he could do better. Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, let’s get to watching some Space Magic Movie Magic.
Movie of the Week: Come on and SLAM.
Honorable Mention: Is this how you UwU?
If you’re looking to score a Movie of the Week emblem, make sure to submit your movie to the Creations page on Bungie.net. Throw a link to your Bungie.net profile in the description, and we’ll shoot you an emblem for your troubles if you’re creation is chosen.
A major announcement like the one we dropped today creates new questions. We know you also want answers to some of the other questions you’ve been asking since the original reveal of Beyond Light.
Those answers were hard to come by in recent weeks while we refactored our deadlines and development cycles. The good news is that now we have more time to tell you everything you need to know about how this expansion will change Destiny 2. In the weeks and months to come, we’ll share all the information you need to plan your game time leading up to November 10.
World War I FPS Tannenberg Coming to Xbox One July 24
We’re excited to let all of you know that the sequel of Verdun, Tannenberg, is coming to Xbox One on July 24! Tannenberg is the second game in the WWI Game Series that we’re releasing.
We remastered our WWI FPS Verdun last December doing all the work in-house and focusing on making the player’s experience even more intense. Because Tannenberg and Verdun both run on the same underlying engine, we also wanted to ensure both games would meet the requirements for Xbox One X Enhanced status. The Verdun remaster update saw some great success on Xbox One, so it was a no-brainer for us to go on and do the development work for Tannenberg on Xbox One ourselves as well. Since the remaster, Verdun has been making the most of the awesome power of the Xbox One, and we can assure you that Tannenberg will as well! We even added a brand new map to the game as well, set at the fortified town of Przemyśl – site of the longest siege of the First World War!
WWI FPS Tannenberg
In Tannenberg players can experience the massive battles of the Eastern Front in WWI with up to 40 players fighting for control of key sectors on the battlefield, each one offering a distinct strategic advantage. The fighting between the Russian Empire, Germany and their allies offers a fresh experience for first person shooter players and history enthusiasts alike. It’s also very different from the gritty trench warfare that typified the Western Front as depicted in our first game Verdun. The battles on the Eastern Front take place on a much wider scale and over more varied terrain, with a lot more focus on maneuver warfare. As history enthusiasts, creating Tannenberg was a fascinating chance to dive into a side of the war that doesn’t see as much coverage as the Western Front.
Assault thePrzemyśl fortress in a new map at release!
Development took a little longer than expected, especially as we wanted the game to be Xbox One X Enhanced as well. As a thank you for the patience of the Xbox community, we’ve added an exciting new map to the game: Przemyśl. The fortified city of Przemyśl became infamous in WWI as the scene of one of the longest sieges in the First World War, which resulted in a spectacular loss for the Austrian-Hungarian army against the besieging Russian troops. The Russian victory was short lived, as a German offensive brought forward super heavy mortars which devastated the fortress. This new map adds even more variety to Tannenberg, which already contains battlefields ranging from the swamps of Latvia and vast Polish plains all the way to Roumanian mountain peaks.
Authentic World War 1 setting
Tannenberg and Verdun are part of our WWI Game Series. These authentic WWI first-person shooters let players choose from a plethora of different squads that took part in the Great War as they try to capture or defend the varied landscapes of the Eastern Front, including many of the smaller nations who participated in the war yet are rarely included.
Extra effort has been put into recreating the atmosphere of the Eastern Front, with the same level of detail and accuracy seen in Verdun. A lot of research has been put into the uniforms, gear and weapons in order to get the tiniest details right. The maps are filled with realistic props and terrain layouts based on the actual locations; from the forests of Galicia to the Polish villages that were subjected to brutal scorched earth tactics and more!
So what can you expect?
We took the opportunity to add to the intensity and feel of the game in order to make optimal use of the added graphical processing power of the Xbox One. Across large maps players can participate in 40 player battles, with up to 20 bots to help fill the roster out. The gore effects (which are optional) will be of the same level that we offer in the Verdun console version in order to keep the game performance nice and smooth.
Pre-order with a discount!
In order to enlist more soldiers for the Eastern Front, we have a special 10% pre-order discount for the Tannenberg Xbox One release. We hope to see you in the forests and on the steppes of the East on July 24!

Xbox One X Enhanced
Tannenberg brings the massive battles of the Eastern Front in WW1 to life with 40 players fighting for control of key sectors of the battlefield, each one offering a distinct strategic advantage. Warfare between the Russian Empire, Germany, and their allies offers a fresh experience for first person shooter players and history aficionados alike. There are seven squads, 50+ weapons, nine large maps that give players tactical freedom, and a 40 player game mode with full AI bot support so you can experience epic battles at any time! Everything has been recreated with the same attention to detail seen in Verdun, the first entry in the WW1 Game Series. This historical game takes place across the lakes, forests, mountains and snowy plains of the Eastern Front – it was inspired by the Battle of Tannenberg in 1914, one of the most iconic encirclement battles in history. Players will be able to master a range of authentically modelled equipment brought to the field by Russian Frontovik and Cossack squads, Latvian Riflemen, the Roumanians, or join the Central Powers to serve in an Austro-Hungarian K.u.K. squad, German Infanterie, or the Bulgarians. Tannenberg offers several game modes – including the exciting Maneuver game mode reflecting the nature of war on the Eastern Front, as 40 players battle across large maps where the objectives and battle lines are always shifting. Survive the deadly battles by working together with your four man squad and utilizing your distinctive skills. There is a wealth of historical detail including realistic WW1 weaponry, authentic uniforms, horrendous gore, and maps based on real battlefields. It’s all-out war on the Eastern Front! From artillery barrages and poison gas to the deadly heavy machine gun and hard-hitting rifle, there are many weapons to master. The battlefield is a dangerous place, and a little thought will help you stay alive – lead your shots, keep your eyes open, and be ready to engage in ferocious close combat at any moment. Tannenberg’s Maneuver game mode captures the essence of warfare on the Eastern Front, with 40 players, large open maps, and the freedom to choose which sectors you will attack and defend. Just make sure you don’t get outflanked and encircled before you can do the same to your enemies! The WW1 Game Series currently includes Tannenberg and Verdun (set on the Western Front). These authentic WW1 shooters let players choose from a range of squads from across the war, as they fight for control of the ever-changing frontlines. We recreate the atmosphere of the Eastern Front with the same level of accuracy as seen in Verdun. Extensive research has been conducted, with uniforms recreated to the tiniest detail and weapons modelled to exact references. The maps use realistic props and terrain layouts based on locations from the hilly forests of Galicia to a Polish village subjected to scorched earth tactics. This Game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work: Frequent Violence or Gore, General Mature Content. Gore and blood can be disabled completely with an in-game setting.

Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Amié has adopted another retirement pastime: acting as a strategic adviser for indie publisher Rogue Games. That role will see Fils-Aimé leveraging his years of industry experience to offer guidance to Rogue Games’ board of directors, advice now invaluable to Rogue as it expands beyond PC games and into the console game business.
Fils-Aimé is best known as the charismatic head of Nintendo of America, a position he held for over a decade before retiring from the company in February 2019. Since, Fils-Aimé continues to be involved with the video game industry, often in an advisory capacity. Some of his notable post-retirement ventures include joining the board of directors for both the New York Video Game Critics Circle and GameStop.
“The benefit of being retired is that I get to work with people I like and companies that I feel are doing unique and valuable things,” Fils-Aimé explains in a chat with VentureBeat. “In Rogue’s case, I have known Matt Casamassina and Chris Archer for years. They do things the right way and are willing to benefit from my years of experience. And they are leading an incredibly talented team who have a fresh vision for how to do digital games publishing.”

Microsoft offers free, educational virtual summer camps for students
Share this article:
If this summer looks a little different for your family, you are not alone. Many summer camps have decided to cancel due to social distancing recommendations—meaning fewer learning opportunities for students and added responsibilities for parents.
With families in mind, Microsoft created Passport to Digital Fun, a free, virtual summer camp with weeks of interactive workshops. To spark your student’s curiosity and continue their education over the summer, campers will receive a stamp to add to their digital passport each time they complete a workshop. This allows them to document their summer learning journey as they travel through different experiences and master various skill sets.
Through August, hundreds of sessions will be hosted as Microsoft Teams Live events. You can visit the calendar to browse options and register for specific workshops by time zone, so that you and your student can choose what best fits their schedule, interests, and learning needs.
Don’t miss out on summer camp workshops across these categories:
STEM and coding missions: There are STEM workshops for every age and ability level. Whether your student is ready to learn the basics of coding or create their own video game, these exciting courses will refresh and advance their STEM skills.
Week at the museum: Take a field trip to a Smithsonian museum without leaving your home. Our virtual tours allow your child to discover ancient fossils, learn the milestones of space exploration, or explore the depths of the ocean.
Around the world in five days: Your student doesn’t have to travel to learn about different areas of the world. Take a virtual trip to every corner of the globe using Bing 3D Maps.
Game on: Our gaming workshops give students a behind-the-scenes understanding of video game creation and teaches them healthy habits. They will have so much fun that they won’t even realize they are building valuable digital skills.
Digital tools to explore your creative side: Whether your student is interested in storytelling or photography, our creative workshops will teach them how to use Microsoft tools to bring their imagination to life.
Bettering the community: All communities can benefit from young people who want to make a difference. These workshops help students learn the basics of everything from entrepreneurship to community organization.
Check out the Microsoft Store community for more information on how to start making the most of your child’s free time this summer.
Feature: Best Switch Ports – The Most Impressive Ports On Nintendo Switch
Few could have predicted just how successful Nintendo’s hybrid console would be prior to launch back in March 2017. For the preceeding decade or so, third-party publishers tended to overlook Nintendo’s hardware for a variety of reasons, but Switch has attracted a huge number of the world’s premier developers back to Nintendo hardware, some for the first time in a long time.
Despite its relative lack of grunt compared to the more powerful home consoles, Switch has hosted a number of incredibly ambitious and impressive ports, and the list below is our pick of the very best. It includes not only technical marvels, but also a couple of retro titles that shine brightest on Switch having been given the 5-star restoration treatment.
So, let’s take a look–in no particular order–at the the best Switch ports since the console launched.
Publisher: SEGA / Developer: M2
Release Date: 27th Jun 2019 (USA) / 27th Jun 2019 (UK/EU)
Not the first impressive Switch port that sprang to mind, eh? We begin with this one to highlight what a fine job port specialists M2 did with SEGA’s classic arcade racer. Virtua Racing is by far the most impressive Sega Ages release to date, offering an incredible remaster that doesn’t just replicate the arcade game but actively improves its resolution and frame rate. Newcomers should be aware that it still only offers three tracks and one car, but those willing to accept this fairly meagre offering will find that the new 20-lap Grand Prix mode and the online leaderboards give it a much-needed boost of longevity. Not for everyone, then, but those who ‘get’ it will adore it.
Publisher: SEGA / Developer: Creative Assembly
Release Date: 5th Dec 2019 (USA) / 5th Dec 2019 (UK/EU)
Alien: Isolation is a survival horror masterpiece and straight-up one of the very best horror video games ever released. It’s a nerve-wracking affair – a slow, methodical game of cat and mouse against a brilliantly clever recreation of one of cinema’s most infamous killers – but if you’re up to the task you’ll find one of the most satisfying gameplay experiences in the genre; a brilliant and beautiful homage to one of the greatest Sci-Fi movies of all time. Feral Interactive – a team who we’ve spoken to about porting this and another game coming later down the list – did a stellar job with this Switch port and the excellent motion controls and inclusion of all previously-released DLC only go to sweeten the deal. This is essential stuff for survival horror fans.
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks / Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
Release Date: 17th Nov 2017 (USA) / 17th Nov 2017 (UK/EU)
As this list attests, Switch isn’t short of games that have already taken a bow, or several, on other hardware, but Skyrim might be the one that most deserves another look from both hardy Elder Scrolls adventurers and absolute beginners alike. Despite its age showing, with countless little cracks in its already fractured façade, it still delivers a palpable sense of space that few games before or since have managed. May its dancing northern lights never dim.

Publisher: 2K / Developer: 2K
Release Date: 29th May 2020 (USA) / 29th May 2020 (UK/EU)
BioShock: The Collection stands as yet another fantastic port in the Switch’s ever-growing library, combining three excellent games and all their DLC into one convincing package. Stable performance, engrossing narratives, fun gameplay, and lots of content make this one an easy recommendation, even if these releases show their age from time to time. If you’re looking for a good single-player shooter to pick up for your Switch, look no further – it’s tough to go wrong here.
What we have here is a flawless port of a game which absolutely deserves all of the praise it has received. From start to finish, Ori and the Blind Forest is a real joy to play. Challenging yet never feeling unfair or discouraging, and almost relaxing to control. The mesmerising art style and musical score are the icing on the cake that makes the player actually care about the protagonist and want to keep playing to the game’s conclusion. It was a bit of a surprise to see this game make its way to the Nintendo Switch, but we’re glad that it did. An unmissable experience.
Release Date: 29th Jun 2018 (USA) / 29th Jun 2018 (UK/EU)
While Wolfenstein II‘s graphical downgrade is hard to miss, that doesn’t detract from the fact that this is one of the best single-player FPS experience on the console. The lack of a multiplayer mode (the versions on other consoles didn’t have one either, so don’t worry about being short-changed) might grate, but with its brilliantly-written story and intense action, not even 2017’s excellent DOOM port can stand up to B.J.’s latest war on the Reich. Given the console’s technical limitations, we’re fortunate to have access to this remarkable story on Nintendo’s handheld.
Release Date: 10th Nov 2017 (USA) / 10th Nov 2017 (UK/EU)
DOOM is one of the best first-person shooters we’ve ever played – an incredible game, flaws and all – and it’s certainly one of the best in its class on Switch. There’s a certain magical quality about having a game this good on the go. Its brilliant campaign is reason enough to pick it up, but DOOM’s multiplayer was also surprisingly good, with small arenas that make matches feel reminiscent of the halcyon days of first-person shooters when Unreal Tournament reigned supreme. While it’s perhaps not as polished as it is on other formats, having DOOM in portable form is a revelation, and developer Panic Button – who we sat down with a while ago to discuss several games on this list – deserves high praise for porting over id Software’s classic title so brilliantly.
Publisher: Zenimax Media / Developer: Nerve Software
And while we’re at it, how about arguably the finest way to play the original DOOM on console? After launching with a smattering of technical issues, subsequent updates improved things to the point where this ranks alongside the very best versions of DOOM available anywhere. Purists may suggest that it should only ever be played on a PC with a keyboard, but after a couple of minutes with this exquisite port you’ll feel like it was made for a gamepad. If you’re looking to slay hordes of Hellspawn at home or on the move, there’s really no better way.
Publisher: Bandai Namco / Developer: FromSoftware
Release Date: 19th Oct 2018 (USA) / 19th Oct 2018 (UK/EU)
While we had to wait a little longer than those playing on PS4 and Xbox One, the wait was more than worth it. Dark Souls: Remastered is a faithful remaster of a touchstone in video game design that improves overall performance while preserving all of the character traits that made the original such a memorable experience. While it’s no less forgiving – and its menus are a little fiddly – this slick Nintendo Switch iteration offers the only way to experience Lordran’s ultra-challenging odyssey in true handheld form. Praise the Sun, indeed.
To have Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice on Switch in this form is a blessing that you shouldn’t miss out on. The game itself is a psychological sensory experience that we thoroughly recommend, but the fact that it’s been translated to Switch in such a complete fashion is the true surprise here. It doesn’t feel like a downgrade at all – it stands proudly alongside the other ‘miracle’ ports on the system, arguably surpassing them in some ways. It’s a remarkable effort and a challenge to other developers who insist Switch couldn’t handle their games. Anything’s possible, it seems, and we take our hats off to QLOC – bravo.
Cuphead was an absolute masterpiece when it originally launched on Xbox One and nothing has been sacrificed in its move to the Switch. A run-and-gun boss battler dressed up like a 1930s Fleischer or Disney animated short, it’s the same visually jaw-dropping, aurally delightful, knuckle-whiteningly difficult game it was on Microsoft’s console and the Switch’s library is all the better for its presence. Its focus on intense boss battles won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but as long as you know what you’re getting yourself into we can’t recommend it enough. Just look at it!
Move Aside Mario, A New F-Zero Twitter Account Has Been Discovered
Following on from the discovery of a private Super Mario Twitter account earlier this week, there are now reports that another account – with a recovery email potentially linked to Nintendo – has been discovered.
Yep, this time it’s for Nintendo’s dormant F-Zero franchise which hasn’t received a new entry in about 16 years.
As explained by VGC, the protected Twitter handle @FZeroJP was registered in March 2020 this year – the same time as the @SuperMario35th account and is attached to a similar-looking email that falls in line with Nintendo’s ‘nintendo.co.jp’ address.
This address also seemingly matches the emails tied to the official SplatoonJP and SmashBrosJP Twitter accounts.
Of course, at this stage, it’s impossible to confirm if the account was created by Nintendo – even if it was, it might just be the company reserving handles for its IP on social media.
