Nvidia Reveals The Heart Of Its Next-Gen Gaming Hardware, Ampere

Nvidia's GTC 2020 keynote was delivered from the kitchen of CEO Jensen Huang, but the scaled-back presentation didn't mean the content was lacking. Although Nvidia has yet to reveal its new gaming-focused GPUs, it did focus on what will power them.

Ampere is the latest Nvidia processing architecture that will move from 12nm down to 7nm, akin to the jump AMD performed with its RX 5000 line of GPUs. The shift should theoretically bring with it a jump in performance, as Nvidia can now fit more transistors onto the processor. Ampere's A100 system board already has 54 billion transistors on it, making it the largest 7nm processor in production.

Nvidia didn't go into detail about what that means for gaming specifically, or if the A100 board would be used as-is in its next-generation cards. But it did announce an update to the AI-processing Tensor cores on its current Turning -powered RTX GPUs. These third-generation Tensor cores streamline AI computations, which should theoretically mean better DLSS 2.0 performance and ray-tracing in the near future.

Google’s FooBar Challenge | See How I Passed Levels 1 to 5 in Real-Time

I just got invited to perform Google’s FooBar challenge. In this article, I want to share with you how I solved the problems in real-time. The purpose of this article is to educate you—and to have some fun. So, are you ready?

Level 1: Prime Numbers


The first goal was to find an identifier for a new employee at the “minions” company.

The identifier is selected base on a random number i. How do we come from the random integer i to the identifier of the new minion employee?

  • Create a sequence of prime numbers '23571113...'.
  • The identifier is the subsequence starting from index i and ending in index i+4 (included).
  • The value i is an integer between 0 and 10000.


Here’s the solution I implemented in the video:

Here’s the problem posed by Google:

Numbers Station Coded Messages
When you went undercover in Commander Lambda's organization, you set up a coded messaging system with Bunny Headquarters to allow them to send you important mission updates. Now that you're here and promoted to Henchman, you need to make sure you can receive those messages - but since you need to sneak them past Commander Lambda's spies, it won't be easy! Bunny HQ has secretly taken control of two of the galaxy's more obscure numbers stations, and will use them to broadcast lists of numbers. They've given you a numerical key, and their messages will be encrypted within the first sequence of numbers that adds up to that key within any given list of numbers. Given a non-empty list of positive integers l and a
target positive integer t, write a function solution(l,
t) which verifies if there is at least one consecutive
sequence of positive integers within the list l (i.e.
a contiguous sub-list) that can be summed up to the
given target positive integer t (the key) and returns
the lexicographically smallest list containing the
smallest start and end indexes where this sequence can
be found, or returns the array [-1, -1] in the case
that there is no such sequence (to throw off Lambda's spies, not all number broadcasts will contain a coded message). For example, given the broadcast list l as [4, 3, 5, 7, 8] and the key t as 12, the function solution(l, t) would return the list [0, 2] because the list l contains the sub-list [4, 3, 5] starting at index 0 and ending at index 2, for which 4 + 3 + 5 = 12, even though there is a shorter sequence that happens later in the list (5 + 7). On the other hand, given the list l as [1, 2, 3, 4] and the key t as 15, the function solution(l, t) would return [-1, -1] because there is no sub-list of list l that can be summed up to the given target value t = 15. To help you identify the coded broadcasts, Bunny HQ has agreed to the following standards: - Each list l will contain at least 1 element but never more than 100.
- Each element of l will be between 1 and 100.
- t will be a positive integer, not exceeding 250.
- The first element of the list l has index 0.
- For the list returned by solution(l, t), the start index must be equal or smaller than the end index. Remember, to throw off Lambda's spies, Bunny HQ might include more than one contiguous sublist of a number broadcast that can be summed up to the key. You know that the message will always be hidden in the first sublist that sums up to the key, so solution(l, t) should only return that sublist. Languages

Here’s the first code that I tried:

The code solves the problem but it takes quadratic runtime so I though—can we do better? Yes, we can! There’s a linear runtime solution:

Both solutions work—but the latter is much faster. Here’s the output and the test cases:

Apple operations chief details supply chain COVID-19 response plans

Apple Senior Vice President of Operations Sabih Khan has outlined how the company plans to ensure health and safety across its global supply chain amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new safety guidelines were revealed on Thursday in Apple’s annual Supplier Responsibility Progress report. It opens with a public letter from Khan that thanks supply chain partners across the globe, as well as details how the company is ensuring protections for workers at factories and plants during the coronavirus crisis.

Khan said the 2020 report is a “look back” on past sustainability and safety efforts, but also includes some of the actions that Apple is taking to “address COVID-19’s unprecedented challenges.”

“From the outset, we worked with our suppliers to develop and execute a plan that puts the health of people first,” Khan wrote. “Thousands of Apple employees have worked tirelessly to execute that plan in partnership with our suppliers around the world.”

Some of the actions that Apple has taken at supply chain facilities include health screenings, requiring the use of personal protective equipment, givings masks and sanitizer to all employees, and enforcing social distancing and decreased density at workplaces.

Additionally, Apple facilities now feature reconfigured and redesigned floor plans at factories when needed, as well as more flexible work hours to allow for the aforementioned social distancing measures. The company also said that it’s sharing its workplace health and safety plans with others to help establish better worker protections across the industry.

Some of the usual details that Apple includes in its annual report are here as well. The company said its Zero Waste program is now fully integrated, there was a 53% annual increase in suppliers committing to zero-waste practices, and it saved nearly 30.5 billion gallons of freshwater to date.

Apple created the 2020 report based on interviews with 52,000 workers across it supply chain. The company also audited suppliers in 49 countries in 2019, up from 30 the year before.

“Our work to protect people and the planet may never be finished — but we’ve never been more confident that our brightest days are still ahead,” Khan wrote.

While Avatar 2 isn't hitting theaters until December 17, 2021, we're getting a closer look at the filming process while we wait. The official Twitter account for the movie franchise has been revealing photos from the filming process, and a new one has arrived.

Recently, some photos from the set were released showing off the pool where filming was taking place. Now, the cast is hanging out in the pool, filming some underwater sequences. Check out the photo below.

As the Avatar account explained before, the balls in the pool are to prevent light from interfering with the filming underwater. In the pool is Zoe Saldana, reprising her role as Neytiri; Sam Worthington, reprising his role as Jake Sully; Kate Winslet, playing Ronal; and Cliff Curtis, playing Tonowari.

Audio


  • Users who have Dolby Atmos enabled and console display settings set to 120hz with 36 bits per pixel (12-bit) are experiencing loss of Dolby Atmos audio in some situations.
    • Workaround: Disable 120hz or set Video Fidelity to 30 bits per pixel (10-bit) or lower.
  • Some users have reported that Dolby Atmos for Headphones audio setting changes when the console is rebooted/updated.
    • Note: If you attempt to set the audio to Dolby Atmos for Headphones and see a message advising you to launch the Dolby Access App, please file feedback before launching the app.

Game DVR


  • Some users have reported that their clips are not recording the full length requested. This is being reported for 4K clips and non-4K clips. We are aware and investigating.

Guide


  • Some users are reporting that they are not seeing Gamerpics or Profile information in the Friends tab.  We are aware of the issue and investigating.
  • We’ve received reports that the Friends tab is not showing the correct status of online/offline friends.
  • Some users may notice that the Guide has changed appearance and functionality, this is expected behavior as there are certain experiences being flighted among a random subset of users in Preview.

My Games & Apps


  • Users have reported seeing black tiles instead of game artwork when browsing their collection.
    • Note: We are still investigating the issue, please report the issue again from the console if you have done so with a prior update and are still seeing this behavior.
  • Some titles in collection may appear with a “trial” tag incorrectly in collection.

Profile Color


  • Sometimes users may encounter the incorrect Profile color when powering on the console.
