UK Theaters In Discussions For "End-June Reopening"
With theaters closed across the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, movie fans are having to enjoy their favorite past-time at home, using the wide variety of streaming services available. But for many audiences, the question remains about when they will be able to return to cinemas. It has now been reported that theater owners in UK are hoping that they might able to reopen by late June.
According to Screen Daily, conversations are underway between exhibitors and the UK government about how and when to safely reopen to the public. The site states that industry bodies the UK Cinema Association (UKCA) and Film Distributors' Association (FDA) are developing proposals which will be presented to the authorities about the safest way to do this.
UKCA CEO Phil Clapp stated that while discussions were underway, it was ultimately a decision for the government. "We have been in discussion with government on the safeguards needed to protect audiences and staff," he said. "We believe these could be in place in time for an end-June reopening. We are, though, aware that government will have a host of considerations when deciding on when to allow UK sites to reopen. We have no timeline on when that decision will be made."
data = [[0, 1, 0], [1, 1, 1], [0, 0, 0], [1, 1, 0]] # Method 1: Pure Python
res = [sum(x) / len(x) for x in zip(*data)]
print(res)
# [0.5, 0.75, 0.25]
Do you love Python one-liners? I do for sure—I’ve even written a whole book about it with San Francisco Publisher NoStarch. Click to check out the book in a new tab:
You can visualize the code execution and memory objects of this code in the following tool (just click “Next” to see how one step of the code unfolds).
data = [[0, 1, 0], [1, 1, 1], [0, 0, 0], [1, 1, 0]] # Method 2: NumPy
import numpy as np
a = np.array(data)
res = np.average(a, axis=0)
print(res)
# [0.5 0.75 0.25]
The axis argument of the average function defines along which axis you want to calculate the average value. If you want to average columns, define axis=0. If you want to average rows, define axis=1. If you want to average over all values, skip this argument.
Method 3: Mean Statistics Library + Map()
Just to show you another alternative, here’s one using the map() function and our zip(*data) trick to transpose the “matrix” data.
The map(function, iterable) function applies function to each element in iterable. As an alternative, you can also use list comprehension as shown in method 1 in this tutorial. In fact, Guido van Rossum, the creator of Python and Python’s benevolent dictator for life (BDFL), prefers list comprehension over the map() function.
Where to Go From Here?

Get a free copy of the brilliant Door Kickers: Action Squad!
Door Kickers: Action Squad is an excellent new tactical shooter that rolls back the clock to the ’80s, when Bruce Willis was the very height of cool. You play as one of six different law enforcement officers and send them out on a wide variety of challenging missions. You can take the law into your own hands, blasting away fools with a wide variety of weapons and equipment.
You can kick doors in, throw grenades and flashbangs, and fire your weapons with great abandon. You’ll have to manage recoil, cooldowns, and ensure you have enough supplies for the challenge ahead though. Action Squad is a sequel to the original Door Kickers, which took great pride in its bevvy of tactical options. While the sequel might look sillier, it shares a lot more in common with its predecessor than you’d think.
We really liked the 2D shooter, which is evident from our Door Kickers: Action Squad review. So it’s with great delight that we can announce that we’re giving away ten codes for the shooter across iOS and Android to you, our valued readers.
To get in with a chance of winning, you simply need to complete one of the two Gleam forms below, depending on the platform that you’d like your code for.
We’ll need your full name and email address so we can contact you in a week’s time if you win. We also require that you read our full terms and conditions before you enter, listed here.
Apple sued over 2016 MacBook Pro ‘stage lighting’ issue
By Mike Peterson Wednesday, May 06, 2020, 02:51 pm PT (05:51 pm ET)
Apple has been hit with a class-action lawsuit claiming that the company concealed the so-called “stage lighting” issue experienced by some 2016 MacBook Pro owners.

Dubbed “stage lighting” due to abnormal backlighting patterns emanating from the bottom of an impacted MacBook Pro’s display, the problem was tied to stress or tearing on the laptop’s cable when the lid was opened and closed repeatedly. Apple eventually launched a repair program for the issue in 2019 and quietly fixed the underlying culprit in the next generation of MacBook.
On Wednesday, Los Angeles resident Mahan Taleshpour lodged a complaint in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of California alleging that Apple was aware of the defect in its product and failed to disclose the issue to consumers.
The plaintiff claims that his 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro experienced stage lighting effects in January 2020, but he was left responsible for the full cost of the display repair due to the fact that the repair program only covers 13-inch MacBook Pro models released in 2016. He added that the cost to repair the display was quoted as $850, adding that he’s been unable to repair the device since the COVID-19 outbreak.
The “stage lighting” effect is described as alternating patches of light and darkness at the bottom of the display, and the complaint points out that some MacBook Pro models experience complete display failure after significant backlight cable damage. Repairing the display cable is often a costly service, since it requires the entire display unit to be replaced.
Among complaints that Apple promoted a defective product and failed to exercise quality control, the lawsuit also claims that the company’s conduct in the matter was unlawful and violated the Consumers Legal Remedies Act and the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act.
It also levies allegations that Apple’s “concealment” of the display cable issue was “malicious, oppressive, deliberate” and “intended to defraud.”
The plaintiff is seeking an official disclosure about the “defective nature” of the display cables, restitutions for MacBook Pro repair costs or economic losses, an expansion of AppleCare and repair program service to 15-inch models, and legal fees.
SteamDolls Is An Upcoming Metroidvania Starring The Voice Of Solid Snake
SteamDolls – Order of Chaos is a new, upcoming Metroidvania hoping to launch on Nintendo Switch. Resist the urge to litter our comment section with ‘urgh, another Metroidvania’, though, because this one is already showing quite a lot of promise.
Described as a steampunk-inspired Metroidvania game with “a grimy touch of brutality”, this one has you losing yourself inside a labyrinthine city full of secrets and madness, aiming to reveal the truth lurking in the shadows. A description for the game says, “you know but four words: Action, Exploration, Stealth, and Blood”. Ooer.
Perhaps one of the biggest selling points at this early stage is the fact that David Hayter (voice of Metal Gear‘s Solid Snake) plays the game’s protagonist, known as The Whisper. You’ve watched the trailer up above by now, right?
A Kickstarter campaign will be going live in June – you can actually see the page already here – with a full release for the game planned for 2021 on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and of course Switch.

Ninjala Tutorial Video Teaches You The Basics And Advanced Techniques
Last week, Nintendo Switch players got their very first taste of Ninjala, the all-new morphing ninja gum action game that’s already reminding fans of the wonderful Splatoon. If your early matches didn’t go quite as well as you’d hoped, this new video should come in very handy indeed.
Shared by the game’s developers, it goes over the basic controls you’ll need to master, shows you the flow of Ninjala battles, and even takes a quick look at some more advanced techniques. The Ninjala team says that if you study these moves, you’ll be well prepared to triumph over your foes.
The recent open beta seemed to receive a mixed response from its players; the gameplay itself seems to have gone down rather well, but connectivity issues ruined the fun for many. Of course, beta tests are designed to iron out issues just like that one, so we’re hopeful that all will be good and ready by the time the game launches.
Speaking of which, the release date is fast approaching. If you’re looking forward to playing the full game, make sure to keep an eye out for its Switch eShop launch on 27th May.
Did you try to take part in the open beta? How did you find it? Let us know with a comment.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Multiplayer Mod Finally Exists
GameSpot’s 2019 Game of the Year, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is Japanese developer From Software’s most recent release. Unlike other From Software titles like Bloodborne or Dark Souls, Sekiro is a purely single-player experience, until now that is. Independent developer Luke Yui has developed a mod called Sekiro Online that allows up to six players to play through the samurai's journey together.
Sekiro focuses on heavily intricate combat, with foes trading blows and parries with precise timing. Patience and timing are the key to fighting and surviving through Sekiro, with the main damage mechanic revolving around breaking through an enemies ‘posture’ and striking a heavy blow. Adding more players to the mix breaks the tension of Sekiro’s combat, with every fight no longer feeling like a duel that could go either way, but more like a drunken tavern brawl.
The mod includes player-vs-player combat, with other players able to invade sessions similar to Dark Souls and Bloodborne player interactions. Friends can also be summoned as friendly phantoms that can play alongside the main character. This is again similar to using the bell in Dark Souls to get help on a boss fight from another play, only the player won’t disappear after the boss fight.
