News - Atomfall, Which Is Basically British Fallout, Gets Release Date And Trailer
June's Xbox Showcase showed off the first look at Atomfall, a first-person survival-action title that seems to have a lot in common with the Fallout franchise. Now, Rebellion Developments' very British take on the post-apocalypse has a release date: March 27, 2025. A new teaser trailer accompanied that announcement, which sends the viewer into Casterfell Woods, a creepy and bizarre English forest.
If the eerie red telephone box reminds you of Doctor Who, that's not a coincidence. In a guest post on Xbox's official site, Rebellion's associate head of design, Ben Fisher, confirmed that the long-running British sci-fi series was an inspiration for Atomfall. Somewhat like Fallout, this game's alternate history diverges from our own in the 1950s. It also draws upon the real-life nuclear accident during the Windscale fire in 1957. Within the world of the game, the fallout from that incident charted the course for Atomfall's dark future.
One of the players' goals is to discover what really happened at Windscale, but survival is a more immediate concern. As shown in the video, the inhabitants of Casterfell Woods won't hesitate to put down the player's character. There's also an enigmatic voice on the other end of the phone that says, "Oberon must die." Oberon was the king of the fairies in medieval literature, and he was also a featured character in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. While the Oberon in the Atomfall is probably not the same character, there's presumably a reason why that name was chosen.

News - Xbox Handheld Device Is A "Few Years Out," Apparently
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has been saying for a long time that he wants to make an Xbox handheld device, and now he's brought it up once more.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Spencer said that the "expectation is that we would do something" in that area. Bloomberg reported that Microsoft is currently working on prototypes and thinking about the best way forward. The site also reported that Spencer said any potential Xbox handheld would be "a few years out."
For now, Microsoft's designers and engineers are spending time updating the Xbox mobile app to offer a better experience on portable gaming devices that already exist. But on a longer horizon, Spencer said, "I think our team could do some real innovative work" in the dedicated handheld market.

News - Get A Sony 4K Blu-Ray Player For Only $158 At Amazon And Walmart
If you don't have a PS5 or Xbox Series X with a disc drive, or you want a more affordable secondary media player for another room, Walmart and Amazon have several notable deals on 4K Blu-ray players ahead of Black Friday 2024. One of the standout offers is the Sony UBP-X700 for $158 at Amazon, a savings of $92 from its $250 list price.
Lego Star Wars: New Republic E-Wing vs. Shin Hatis Starfighter
Target's listing doesn't really provide the full picture on this deal. At face value, it looks like a 30% discount from its original $91 price. But that $91 "original" price is actually a previous deal price. This Ahsoka set still retails for $110 at most retailers, including the Lego Store, Amazon, and Walmart. Amazon was matching this deal, but it sold out fast (unsurprisingly).
The E-wing has a sleeker design when compared to the Dark Jedi apprentice's spaceship, and both of these vehicles can fire Lego studs with their spring-loaded mechanisms. The starfighters are also impressively sized once fully constructed, and when you're not using them to reenact battles, you can use the retractable landing gears to display them on your shelf. You'll also get five minifigures with this set: Baylan Skoll, Shin Hati, Morgan Elsbeth, Captain Porter, and a New Republic Astromech Droid.
News - Palworld Developer Shares More Details About Nintendo's Lawsuit Against The G
When Palworld debuted earlier this year, its similarities to Pokemon led observers to expect a legal response from Nintendo. That finally happened in September, when Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Palworld developer Pocketpair in Japanese court alleging infringement on the company's patents. Now, Pocketpair has shared details about which patents Nintendo's claims are based on, and how much money the company wants out of the case.
Pocketpair posted a summery of the information, which reveals that the three Japanese patents in question are No. 7545191, No. 7493117, and No. 7528390. All three patents were registered earlier this year. Instead of going after Palworld for its Pokemon-like creatures, the patents appear to be centered around the mechanics of throwing a ball at characters, riding characters in the game, and shooting at targets.
The lawsuit is asking for an injunction against Palworld, plus 5 million yen (which is roughly just under $33,000 in American dollars) payments--with late fees--to both Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. The details of the lawsuit largely lineup with the predictions made earlier this year by Kantan Games CEO and video game analyst Serkan Toto. At the time, Toto believed that Nintendo's allegedly infringed-upon patents would be "very technical" in nature, and that Pocketpair will ultimately be forced to make a deal with Nintendo.
