While we've already seen the spruced-up videos that are recorded when you unlock a new Trophy on a PlayStation 5 game you might have been waiting to see if there was anything extra-special that happens when you unlock a Platinum Trophy (the one you get for unlocking all of the Trophies in a game). For better or worse, there isn't--you'll just have to settle for the standard Trophy unlock experience and the satisfaction of knowing you earned it.
We managed to obtain the Platinum in Astro's Playroom, the free game that's bundled with every PS5 and functions as a showcase for the DualSense controller. When we did, there wasn't anything special that happened--you get the usual pop-up notification, and the system automatically records a short video clip to commemorate the moment as with any Trophy. That video includes the aforementioned overlay we saw previously, but there isn't any additional flourish for the Platinum.
Trophies largely function as they have in the past, although it's possible you'll find it easier to earn some of them thanks to PS5's built-in help feature. This allows you to access developer-created videos and help materials through the PS5's user interface, provided the game supports the feature. With a picture-in-picture video on screen, you might find a particularly tough task is a bit more doable.
LDtk, or Level Designer Toolkit, is an open source MIT licensed Haxe based 2D level editor from the creator of Dead Cells. If it looks familiar that is because we recently covered it when it was known as LEd. In just a few short months though, LDtk has come a long way, including community ports to Linux and MacOS. With the 0.5 release (the re-brand version number), tons of new features were added to LDtk including:
Tiles flipping: in Tile Layers, you can mirror tiles before painting them by pressing X or Y (or Z). This also works from group of tiles.
Tiles stacking: you can now optionaly stack multiple tiles in a single cell of a Tile layer, reducing the need for multiple layers. For example, you could paint a brick wall, then enable stack mode (T), and add details like cracks or vines over the same wall. Be careful though: erasing of stacked elements can be tricky, so you should use a mix of multiple layers and stacking to get the best results.
New editing options bar: Grid locking, Single layer mode and Empty space selection moved to a new more streamlined button bar.
File association: project files now use the extension *.ldtk instead of *.json. Therefore, on Windows, double-clicking such files will open the app accordingly. If you prefer the .json extension, you can force it in each project settings (but will lose benefit of the file association).
Auto-layer rule preview: when you move your mouse over a rule, you will now see which cells in the current layer are affected, making their testing MUCH easier.
Tiled (TMX) export: this optional export now generates proper standard tile layers. However, to support LDtk stacked tiles feature (see above), multiple Tiled layers might be generated per single LDtk layer. Also, IntGrid layers are now properly exported to Tiled (as standard tile layers, with an auto-generated tileset image).
New color picker: it supports copy/paste, manual hex value editing and a much better UI (thanks to simple-color-picker).
Flood-fill fixes: if you hold SHIFT while clicking in a Tile layer, it will flood-fill the area using currently selected tiles (randomly, or by stamping group of tiles, depending on the current mode).
Flood-fill erasing: just use SHIFT+Right click to erase a whole contiguous area.
The layer Rule editor now overlaps left panel and allows level editing while being open (makes rule testing much easier). Press Escape to close it.
In Tile layers, you can press L to load a saved tileset selection (using S key)
Renamed the Level panel to World (for the 0.6.x future update).
It’s now possible to change the tileset or even the source layer of an Auto-Layer without loosing your rules.
Auto-layer baking: turn a complex Auto-Layer into a standard Tile layer (think of it as the flatten feature in Photoshop). Be careful, it’s a one-way operation.
Unified “Show/hide grid” and “Grid locking” options. You can now just press G to toggle grid (which also implies “grid locking” in supported layer types).
All options (such as “Grid on/off”, or “Compact panel mode”) are now saved to a JSON file in your app folder, in userSettings/.
Help window is now a side panel.
Opaque tiles are detected in tilesets for use in various optimizations (mostly related to the new tile stacking feature).
Fixed a crash when deleting IntGrid layer while an AutoLayer uses it as source.
Added some colors to UI buttons
New exit button icon.
You can learn more about LDtk releases here, including an even newer 0.5.1 beta release. As mentioned earlier the project is open source with the code released under the MIT license and available on GitHub. You can learn more about LDtk here with downloads available on Itch.io. You can learn more about LDtk and see it in action in the video below.
Apple Silicon event preview and AT&T’s 5G on the AppleInsider podcast
Apple’s “One More Thing” event is next week and they’ve teased the release of Apple Silicon Macs. As we wait for that, we’ve been out testing AT&T’s 5G+ mmWave service in the real world — and pre-orders begin for iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and HomePod mini.
Next week Apple will hold its third event this Fall, and it appears we will finally see the first Apple Silicon Macs. Here’s what to expect from the event, plus speculation about the possibilities of how Apple will configure and differentiate between these new computers.
Apple rather pushed how all of these phones have 5G, but the practical use of it in the real world is going a little slower than we might all like. Stephen has found the single street corner where AT&T’s mmWave technology, which they call 5G+Ultra Wideband, is available in Orlando, Florida. Watch his download and speed tests in our YouTube video.
Stephen did those tests in the States, and William would have done the same in England — but that country has gone into lockdown. This has an impact on Apple Store pickup options and pre-orders of the iPhone 12 mini, Pro Max and HomePod mini, plus it

Switch Is Getting A Brand-New Dizzy Game, And It Was Coded During Lockdown
If you’re a British gamer who grew up in the ’80s then Dizzy will need no introduction. The egg-based hero created by The Oliver Twins starred in numerous adventures across a wide range of systems, including the NES.
Some of those very same adventures have been immortalised on the Evercade handheld recently – but if you’re looking for some brand-new Yolkfolk action, then you’re in luck.
The Oliver Twins have just announced that they’re about to release details on a brand-new Dizzy instalment that was coded for Switch during the first UK lockdown (this week, we’ve just entered Lockdown II: The Wrath of Khan).
We’re excited that a press release is coming out very soon of our new Dizzy game that we wrote on Switch during the first lockdown!
There’s not much else beyond that announcement, but the fact that Dizzy is getting a new outing is cause for celebration. Let us know if you’re looking forward to seeing the news by leaving a comment below.
If you’re new to the series, then this video by Slope’s Game Room will give you a good grounding:

Hulu Original Series To Also Debut On Peacock
The upcoming children's animated series Trolls: TrollsTopia will see its debut on two different streaming platforms on the same day: Hulu and Peackock. Typically, this would be a huge head-scratcher, as streaming services tend to retain exclusive ownership over their programming, but there is a reasonable explanation for this.
Trolls: TrollsTopia is an animated series that follows the colorful DreamWorks characters on their next adventures. Both Peacock and Hulu released brand-new trailers for the show on their individual YouTube accounts for the show. So this may be a tad confusing for some people. Is this a Peacock original or a Hulu original?
Hulu has multiple owners. Many people tend to associate the service with Disney--as you can bundle Hulu with Disney+ and ESPN+--but it actually has more than one owner. Disney owns 67% of Hulu, but Comcast--Peacock's parent company--owns 33%. So that's how both streaming services can debut this show.

Apex Legends Season 7's New Battle Pass Is A Frustrating Grind
Apex LegendsSeason 7 launched this week, and players are already frustrated with the new battle pass. They've found that it's far more difficult to level up now than it was in previous seasons.
"Overall this feels quite unrewarding," said Redditor looseygoosey11. "I don't think I'll have the time to max the battle pass this season and now I don't even really want to try. I honestly regret this purchase which is the first time that's happened for me and the battle pass."
Respawn has implemented a new "battle star" system where players need to collect stars, which can be earned through challenges and playing regularly, in order to level up. Players need to earn 10 stars in order to level up, but stars are difficult to earn. When they are earned, they give players a fraction of the progress they received in previous seasons--one level in Season 7 takes the same amount of experience as four levels did in Season 6.
