Minecraft Preview

Hey all.  A few days back Mojang Studios announced Minecraft Preview which is the successor of the Minecraft Bedrock Beta program.  Those who have been playing on their Xbox, Windows 10 computers, and Android devices have been able to sign up and try out and test the new features that will eventually be officially released into the base version of the game.  Below I’ll cover what this new program is and what that means for the beta program going forward.

What is it?

The Minecraft Preview is the next step in Mojang Studio’s plan to bring this program to additional platforms.  While currently, the Preview is only available on Xbox, Windows, and Android for now, (additional information in the next point).  The key feature to the Preview is that you don’t have to choose between playing on Beta or playing the current official release of the game.  Both are available on your platform at the same time.

Are there any new platforms available and possible future platforms?

Actually yes!  iOS and Windows 10/11 are the first two new platforms testing this out.  At this time there isn’t a definite answer but Mojang Studios is looking to add more in the future.  Stay tuned for information at a later date.

As of writing this though the current batch of allowed players to test the Preview on iOS is already full.  There will be more information later when others can join in as well.

What does this mean for Beta?

Ultimately this means that Beta will eventually be retired and Preview will take its place.  For now, the Beta and Preview will overlap slightly with those still testing the Beta.

How do I join?
  • On iOS, there will be a specific URL that you can use to sign up.  Spots are limited for now (and are currently full), but more spots will become available in time.
  • On Xbox and Windows everyone who owns a copy of Minecraft (Bedrock).  It should appear in your Games & Apps library and should be ready to install.
  • For Xbox users, do note that this has not officially been released.  Xbox Insiders will first help test this out before being released to the public.  Information on Xbox’s Inside Hub can be found here.
  • Later this year this will be added for Xbox Gamepass players.
  • Those using the Minecraft Launcher will see Minecraft Preview later this year as well.
What about my old worlds?

Unfortunately importing your old worlds is not currently available at this time.

Why should I switch to Preview now?

There are many features available that may spark your interest.

  • Use of the Marketplace.
  • Realms / Featured Servers
  • Cross-platform multiplayer
  • Achievements

This covers the need-to-know information regarding the Minecraft Preview program.  As always, if you encounter any bugs please report them to Mojang Studios so they can get them sorted!

Bedrock: BETA 1.18.10.26

Remember that only those on Xbox One / Windows 10 / and Android may participate in the Beta builds.  You will not be able to join Realms or non-beta players worlds and you will not be able to open worlds opened in the Beta in earlier/current stable builds of Bedrock.  These builds are not to be considered a final build and are a work in progress.

Are your frogs hungry?  Yes?  Why not feed your hoppy friend a nice magma cube!  This build brings new lights called Froglights.  The opening line wasn’t a joke, you really feed a Magma Cube to a Frog and depending on the Frog varient you have will give you one of the three new light blocks.  Read below for more information!

Known Issue

  • Chests may not show all inventory slots when using the Pocket UI. As a workaround, you might want to enable the Classic UI setting.

Experimental Features

Frogs
  • Frogs and Tadpoles now have sounds (MCPE-150742)
  • Frog panic speed is now appropriate
  • Tadpoles now have the panic goal
Frog Egg
  • Glow Lichen can no longer be placed on top of Frog Egg
Froglight
  • Three new Froglight blocks have been added (Pearlescent, Verdant, Ochre)

JAVA Account Migration: What You Need to Know

For those who have been here long enough, you know what this means.  Our Minecraft: Java Edition accounts are migrating for a second time.  For those who have an account now, we will need to Migrate from a Mojang Account to a Microsoft account in early 2021.  Starting later this fall, however, new accounts will already be required to create Microsoft accounts.  I know change can be bothersome but Mojang does state some good points when making the switch.

  • More account security.
  • All Minecraft accounts connected.
  • Parents can have more control for the safety of their child/children
  • Chat and invitation blocking

In the coming months Mojang will list out what exactly is needed and how to migrate your account, this will be mandatory if you wish to continue playing Minecraft: Java Edition.  Here on the Forums, we will do our best to also help remind members of the upcoming switch as well as list the how-to/need-to-know for account Migration.  For those who are Migrating Mojang Studios do have a nice added bonus, a cape!

To ensure that the Migration happens smoothly Mojang Studios will be migrating players in batches to hopefully make this an easy process for all.  Make sure your emails are up to date for your Mojang account as you will receive instructions when it is time to Migrate.

For those worrying, Java Edition itself is not changing, it is only the account that you use to login that is changing.  You will still keep your current names, new players will still be able to pick their name.  Your login is just finding a new home.

For now, read over the FAQ Mojang has provided so far: https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360050865492-JAVA-Account-Migration-FAQ
