Mixer’s got a new homepage, features and more

We’re barely into 2020, and yet so much has happened in such a short time. We know many of you, like the Mixer team here in Redmond, are practicing “social distancing,” learning how to “flatten the curve,” and otherwise taking precautions amid the outbreak of COVID-19. We’re proud and heartened by the stories you’ve shared and the ways we’ve seen Mixer streamers and their communities using Mixer to stay in touch digitally and support each other during this challenging time. Thank you for continuing to make the Mixer community shine as a positive and welcoming place for new and existing members alike.

Over the past couple of months, we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes on a set of new features and capabilities based on feedback we’ve heard from you. These are focused on improving discoverability, empowering communities of all sizes and making it easier to find your new favorite Mixer creators. We’re rolling them out starting today.

  • New Mixer homepage – We’ve refreshed the Mixer homepage across all platforms to give more focus to featured content as well as provide smart, AI-powered recommendations. The most immediate change you’ll notice on your homepage is that we’re introducing a new layout that displays all featured creators at the same time.

Below the “Featured,” “Top Category,” and “Partner Spotlight” sections, you’ll also find brand new content rows. These rows will highlight and recommend streams from community events, cultural moments, and more tailored content as time goes on. The rows will be a mix of AI-powered personalized recommendations and editorially programmed content, ensuring you can discover and join even more communities across Mixer.

  • Auto-Hosting for everyone – We’ve spent the last month testing Auto-Hosting with Mixer Partners and now we’re excited to share it with every streamer. With this feature, you’ll be able to create a list of specific streamers that you want to automatically host when you’re offline. We’ve added a host of customization options as well.

A screenshot of the auto-hosting page for Mixer.
You’ll be able to set your Auto-Host list to host in a priority order or to pick at random. With showcase, you’ll be able to set custom Auto-Host time durations. This means Auto-Host could switch to a new streamer from your list every hour (you determine the time) instead of when that hosted streamer goes offline.

You can access your Auto-Hosting setting in the Broadcast dashboard.

  • Higher-Quality Emotes – This top community ask is no longer “Soon™”, it’s finally here! Starting today, we’re enhancing all emotes to 28 pixels across all platforms, introducing new prefixing requirements and completely refreshing our global emotes. New global emotes will be visible today and all partner emotes will be updated over the next few weeks.
  • Ad Break (Beta) – Our Mixer Partners have been testing advertising pre-roll for the last few months and now we’re expanding our advertising testing with an Ad-Break beta. With this, Partners can choose when they want to run ads during their stream. This was a request from the Mixer Partner community, and we’re excited to be testing it as part of the full package of monetization opportunities on Mixer.
  • Xbox Viewing Improvements – We’re continuing to add more features to the new Mixer viewing experience on Xbox. This new experience is built from the ground up to get you to your favorite streamers as fast as possible. With the April Xbox One system update that’s in some Insider rings now, you’ll see the additions of emotes and subscriber badging in chat.

Ember messages will also get the flair they deserve to help them stand out. We’ve also made it easier to access stream settings for selecting chat layout or video quality. Outside of this latest Xbox One system update, we also expect to have Gift Subs available in the new experience in the coming weeks.

  • Partner Badging on Homepage – To make it easier to find Mixer Partner channels, we’re adding the new badging to the homepage as well.

  • Notifications UX Improvements – We’ve added a new notification bell to the pages of channels you follow, so you have better control over which channels will trigger “go live” notifications.

  • Clips Creation Improvements – Clip creation is now available for more viewers of Mixer Partners and Verified channels in the Mixer app on iOS and Android. Clip creation on mobile respects the Rank, Subscriber, and Moderator permissions that the channel owner has set.

There’s much more coming, and we’re excited to share details soon. Going forward, we will be posting more frequent community updates on this blog. They’ll cover everything from events, to community news and features! Stay tuned for more updates and please keep sharing your feedback on Twitter with us at @WatchMixer.

Mixer Embers now available; virtual currency you can spend on premium Skills and more

The first phase of Season 2 launched in November 2018, and it’s been phenomenal to see the Mixer community’s response. From launching fun Stickers and Effects to communities rallying around their favorite streamers’ Sparks milestones, we’ve had a blast seeing the community interact in new ways, and we appreciate all the valuable feedback you’ve given us so far.

Today, we’re excited to kick off 2019 and the next phase of Season 2 with the launch of Mixer Embers. Early access to Mixer Embers will start today for users of the Mixer mobile app on Android and iOS platforms.  Then, Mixer Embers will roll out to viewers on all platforms next week.

So, what are Embers and how do you get them?

Embers are a virtual currency on Mixer that you can purchase and then spend on premium Skills, including animated Stickers and full-screen Effects. With these premium Skills, you can also add a custom message that will be prominently highlighted in chat, helping your message stand out within the Mixer community. For Mixer Partners, Embers provide new monetization opportunities by enabling a more direct form of patronage with bigger cash rewards.

Sparks are a virtual currency that viewers earn for free, just by watching streams on Mixer; Embers are a paid virtual currency that viewers can purchase directly on Mixer. Although there are specific Skills for each currency, both Sparks and Embers will result in patronage for a partnered streamer. Embers provide a more direct form of patronage as Mixer Partners receive a fixed dollar amount per Ember spent on their channel. In contrast, Sparks spent on Mixer Partner’s channel go towards achieving Spark milestones for cash bonuses. Embers do not have weekly milestones, and do not impact Spark milestones.

To purchase Embers, just click the “Get Embers” button on the top of Mixer.com or hit the “Ember +” button in the Skill Tray on the Mixer mobile app or Xbox One app.

At launch, Embers will be exclusive to Mixer Partner channels – so only Partner channels will offer premium Skills that can be purchased using Embers, and only Partners will receive cash payouts for Embers patronage. This is just the start as we aim to make Embers accessible to more creators and not limited to partners. We’ll talk more about our plans for that in the future and we’ll continue to listen to community feedback and keep exploring ways to enhance your Mixer experience.

We’re excited to hear what you, the community, have to say about Mixer Embers!  Download the Mixer mobile app today for early access to Mixer Embers.  And then let us know your thoughts on Twitter @WatchMixer or on the Mixer Feedback & Ideas site. Stay tuned….we’ll also have more to share on Progression in the coming weeks.

‘Stream Collider’ series showcases the worlds of gaming and pop culture influencers on Mixer

Today we’re excited to introduce gaming fans to a new Xbox original content series we call Stream Collider. In Stream Collider, the worlds of gaming and pop culture influencers collide into a unique “show-within-a-stream,” that you can watch for the first time this Wednesday, Dec 5th @ 6PM PST.

Stream Collider will be an episodic series that streams live on the Xbox channel on Mixer. Within each episode, Mixer’s top streamers and pop culture’s top creators will combine their talents (and their audiences) to compete in thematic challenges related to one of the hottest new game titles releasing on Xbox One. Mixer’s livestreaming audience will be able to affect the show in real time using Mixer’s unique interactivity features, providing influencers and streamers challenges or aid throughout the stream. The series is hosted by comedian, podcaster, and passionate gamer, Jon Gabrus.

The first episode premieres this Wednesday, December 5, at 6 p.m. PST and features popular YouTube chefs from Feast of Fiction and highly skilled Fallout 76 gamer and Mixer streamer, Renee Reynosa. Episode 1, titled “Nuclear Kitchen,” will pit chefs vs. streamer in a race to cook Fallout 76’s nuclear, post-apocalyptic dishes both in the game and in real life.

Feast of Fiction is an innovative cooking show dedicated to creating your favorite fantastical and fictional recipes from books, movies, comics, video games and more. Jimmy Wong and Ashley Adams are well loved by the internet with over 1 million YouTube subscribers tuning in while they craft real-life equivalent of fictional dishes in a geeky and entertaining show. Jimmy brings his gaming skills to the table and Ashley provides the much-needed culinary wisdom to create these one-of-a-kind dishes.

Renee Reynosa is unofficially Fallout’s biggest fan. She is a full-time Mixer streamer and partner, with over 10 years of game video creation and streaming experience – with more than 750,000 followers across Mixer and social channels. On Mixer, Renee’s dedicated community tunes into her broadcasts every week to see which game she’s playing next, to enjoy her witty commentary and reactions to their favorite titles. She’s been counting down the days to Fallout 76 and now that it’s here, she can’t wait to team up with Feast of Fiction and make some in-game grub.

For the duration of the series, gaming fans can tune-in each to each episode, as we bring together popular streamers and creators from across the internet, featuring some of the best games available on Xbox One today.

Be sure to tune in for the first Stream Collider livestream on Wednesday, December 5 at 6 p.m. PST on the Xbox channel on Mixer.

SMITE and Paladins esports return to Mixer

Mixer has a long-standing partnership with Hi-Rez, starting with the Paladins Console Series announced in October of last year, and then the announcement of the SMITE Pro League last February. Earlier today at Hi-Rez Expo (HRX), we announced a continued partnership with Hi-Rez Studios and Skillshot Media, which includes the expansion of SMITE and Paladins esports exclusively on Mixer!

We’re excited to share that the 2019 season of the SMITE Pro League and SMITE Console League will continue to be exclusive on Mixer, building on the success of both leagues during Season 5. In addition, the other premium league from Hi-Rez, Paladins Premier League, featuring the top esports organizations from around the world, will also be coming exclusively to Mixer in 2019!

Earlier this year, Mixer implemented interactive stats dashboards for SMITE esports broadcasts using MixPlay custom controls. We will continue to introduce innovative Mixer features, such as MixPlay integrations and custom Skill packs, for all future SMITE and Paladins esports broadcasts.

The latest integration, MixPlay Rewards, where you can earn in-game items just by linking your Mixer and Hi-Rez accounts and watching official Hi-Rez broadcasts, will debut at HRX this weekend for both SMITE and Paladins broadcasts. Tune-in to official Hi-Rez Expo broadcasts for SMITE and Paladins on Mixer to earn HRX Loki and Convention Furia!

Mixer builds custom golf carts for Post Malone to game and stream at Posty Fest

Mixer is teaming up with multi-platinum recording artist Post Malone, to give him and fans the ultimate festival experience, Posty-style, at his inaugural music festival, Posty Fest. We’ll be serving looks in customized golf carts that are tricked out from top to bottom with Post Malone in mind.

The custom designed Mixer HypeCart, comes equipped with a 40-inch HD screen TV, a custom Posty Fest Xbox One X console, 13-inch, one hundred spoke rims, and will be a fully-operational livestreaming machine to give you an inside look at the festival as Post Malone streams live behind-the-scenes from the carts the day before the festival on Saturday, October 27 starting at 2 p.m. PDT.

Tune in to the Mixer Post Malone Channel and see Post Malone answer fan questions, drive around the venue for an exclusive sneak peek of the festival, and for a chance to win a customized Posty Fest Xbox One X console. Post Malone will also be playing the latest games available on Xbox Game Pass, so be sure to tune in to see if Post Malone games as well as he performs!

But that’s not all. It wouldn’t be a Post Malone golf cart if it didn’t have a cooler for his beverages as well as three cameras so fans won’t miss a second of all the good Posty vibes.

Oh and, we didn’t stop with just one. We’ve created two of these monster machines. A second green, Xbox-themed golf cart is ready to take on the scene. Both the Mixer and Xbox golf carts will be at future events as well so be on the lookout for them!

All of this is part of Mixer’s collaboration with Posty Fest, taking place in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, October 28.

Don’t miss the pre-Posty Fest livestream with Post Malone on the Mixer Post Malone Channel on Saturday, October 27 starting at 2 p.m. PDT.

We’re hyped for this one!
