Toodee and Topdee brings fresh puzzle platforming to Switch

As if the next few weeks weren’t packed enough, another top-tier indie game is now heading our way, as the twisted puzzle game Toodee and Topdee is coming to Nintendo Switch. Much like Super Paper Mario, this is a platformer where you stop time and move into another dimension, though here you’ll place platforms underneath one of the two characters.

In Toodee and Topdee Switch you must rely on your platforming skills and quick thinking to get across each level, and the interesting mixture of the two genres means there are plenty of puzzles to complete. Already released on Steam, Toodee and Topdee makes its way to Nintendo Switch on April 14.

The description for Toodee and Topdee mentions hard as nails challenges, precision platforming, mind-melting puzzles, and huge bosses. The Steam version also has split-screen co-op alongside the single-player mode, something we hope to see brought over to the Nintendo Switch version as well. This tricky puzzle platformer could be an exciting new title to play with a friend!

Check out the full trailer below to learn more about this puzzle platforming adventure ahead of its release next month.

Monster Hunter Rise demo release date set for January

Capcom has premiered an enticing new trailer for Monster Hunter Rise at The Game Awards 2020 and announced a demo set to arrive in January 2021. The latest gameplay footage shows off two all-new monsters who’ll make their grand debuts in next year’s title: Bishaten, a strange beast with a distinctive tail, and aquatic leviathan Somnacanth.

Beyond the newcomers, we also get a good look at some returning critters, including the Royal Ludroth and the birdlike Great Wroggi. Just because they’re old, doesn’t mean they’re any less deadly.

While we already knew about the Shrine Ruins hunting grounds, Capcom has now revealed Monster Hunter Rise’s new Flooded Forest area. This, as the name suggests, is a water-logged and overgrown space that could prove rather treacherous for inexperienced hunters. Thankfully, you’ll have your trusty grapple hook to help you traverse the terrain with relative style and grace.

With the Monster Hunter Rise release date set for March 26, it’s fair to say that we still have a bit of a wait on our hands.

The upcoming demo will surely help to tide over impatient fans for the time being, but if your hype levels are already stratospheric, our first impressions are that this could be the best Monster Hunter game to date.

Doom Eternal finally launches December 8 on Nintendo Switch

Bethesda has announced that it’s finally bringing Doom Eternal to Nintendo Switch on December 8, and it’s about bloody time (get it?). The critically acclaimed shooter arrives courtesy of Panic Button, the creator of many impossible Switch ports, including the original Doom, both Wolfensteins, and Warframe. Suffice to say, it should prove suitably impressive.

As you can expect, it also arrives with motion aiming, allowing you to use gyro controls to fine-tune your aim. Aside from that, this is the true Doom Eternal experience, complete with the lengthy single player experience, wide variety of weapons (including the Assassin’s Creed-style wrist-mounted blade) and abilities, and that sweet multiplayer experience.

This time around, the latter features the new Battlemode, err, mode, which pits one player, as a fully-armed Doom Slayer, against two demons, which you, the players, control. It’s a best-of-five battle to the death. And you can do all of the above a lot sooner than you might have first thought, when Doom Eternal arrives on Nintendo Switch as both a physical and digital release on December 8.

Here’s a taste of the shooter in action:

You can also learn more about the upcoming Switch port by reading this post on the official site.

If you’re sold, you can pre-order Doom Eternal on Amazon UK (US is not live as of yet) via the link below. Happy slaying.

What the Golf’s Snowtime update brings a white – and weird – Christmas

For anyone who hasn’t played What the Golf, it’s a parody golf game which gives the words “crazy golf” a whole new meaning. Each level presents a course with club, ball, and hole – like any golf game – but after that, who knows what will happen?

Perhaps your ball has a mind of its own (literally) or your club turns into a sheep. There is seriously no way to predict what each level will bring, and it’s your job to figure out how to get the ball (or sheep, or tree) into the hole (or mountain, or car). If you’re beginning to think that you’ve figured out the meta vibes of What the Golf: you’d be dead wrong.

Every update for the game has brought new, inventive levels and nothing feels old. The developers have a seemingly bottomless brain-pit filled with physics-based puzzles and quirky alternatives for golf clubs. And the Snowtime update, which went live on the App Store and Apple Arcade yesterday, looks to be more of the same.

For What the Golf’s non-denominational winter celebration, the developers have recruited frozen peas, frozen pizzas, and a frozen landscape for Snowtime fun – after all, there’s Snowtime like the present, right?

There will also be some snowman-related challenges, perfect in case we don’t get an actual White Christmas (which seems unlikely, given we literally never do). Here’s everything included in the Snowtime update (if you can decipher it):

  • Fetch the pizza quest
  • Yes now with snow
  • Pizzas
  • Extra COOL levels
  • Frozen peas, pizzas, and popsicles
  • A moose – NOT frozen!
  • A snowman trying to keep a snow profile
  • Did we mention pizza?
  • Even more chilly physics!

As well as a penchant for puns and pizza, the Snowtime update is sure to bring more inventive levels, dubious humour, and exciting changes to everyone’s favourite parody golf game.

If you like the sound of What the Golf, make sure to also check out the best mobile puzzle games. They might not carry the same irreverent humour, but definitely offer a great challenge. Sam & Max Save the World Remastered is coming to Switch next month

Everyone’s favourite anthropomorphic detective duo are back, and this time they’re taking their mystery solving prowess to the Nintendo Switch in Sam & Max Save the World Remastered. If you haven’t played the Sam & Max games before, first of all: where have you been? The comicbook characters first hit our 90s screens with a cult LucasArts game, and again nearly 15 years later with Telltale’s episodic series in 2006.

It is this iconic episodic series, Sam & Max Save the World, that is being remastered by Skunkape Games. Seeing as Telltale Games shut down in 2018, it is unknown whether any of the former staff had any role in the remaster, or any say at all. We don’t yet know whether or not the further episodes, Beyond Time and Space, and The Devil’s Playhouse, will also be rereleased down the line.

However, this remaster hopes to rekindle players’ nostalgia, and nail the parody of American cop shows that the games did so well in the mid-2000s. Our six-foot hound and his hyperactive bunny friend form a freelance vigilante police force with a penchant for sarcasm and a complete disregard for the law.

Sam & Max Save the World Remastered Season One will be released on December 2 for Nintendo Switch and PC, via Steam and GOG. Whether you’re after a nostalgia hit or just want to see what you’ve been missing, this is the first time that this dog and bunny have ever been portable.

Sam & Max will also star in Sam & Max: This Time It’s Virtual, a – you guessed it – virtual reality game that was announced back in August. There is currently no release date for that, and many people don’t have access to expensive VR consoles, so the remasters could scratch that pooch-detective-shaped itch for many fans of the series.

If you can’t wait a few weeks for the point-and-click adventure, try out some of the best Switch RPGs to get your exploring fix.

You literally can’t miss out on the legendaries in the Pokémon Sword and Shield expansion

Pokémon Sword and Shield’s second expansion, The Crown Tundra, introduces every legendary Pokémon that’s ever appeared in a mainline Pokemon title to the Switch game. Unlike in previous Pokémon games, where each legendary encounter can result in the Pokémon running away, Nintendo has confirmed that encounters with legendary Pokémon have a guaranteed 100% capture rate.

This information was confirmed in the most recent episode of the Japanese variety show, Pokénchi. Pokénchi also confirmed that players will only capture one of each legendary Pokémon. Some members of the community are disappointed by this news as they fear these legendary Pokémon will be shiny locked. This means these Pokémon cannot be shiny unless the developers decide to give them away at future events. Be sure to keep an eye out on any events after the expansion launches.

Depending on which copy of Pokémon Sword or Shield you own will determine which legendary Pokémon appear in your game. Unfortunately, this means if you want every Pokémon in your PokéDex, you may need to own both copies of the game.

There is the possibility that Game Freak will allow players to catch the version-exclusive legendaries through raids, though this hasn’t been confirmed as of yet. By guaranteeing players can capture the legendary Pokémon without fail, this opens up the possibility of using any Pokéball you want. Be sure to choose wisely, as you won’t have the option ever again.

Want more RPG goodness on your Nintendo Switch? Say no more. Our best Switch RPGs guide will leave you with hundreds of hours worth of content to explore.

Trick or Treat with Splatoon 2’s Splatoween event

The official Nintendo of America Twitter account has just revealed Splatoween 2020! A Splatfest tournament will take place in Splatoon 2 and pit Team Trick against Team Treat in an epic battle. Some super spooky outfits are also shown off in the Tweet letting players into the Halloween spirit before the event starts. More information on the costumes will be available via a news article on your Nintendo Switch later this month.

Team Treat won the original Splatoween Splatfest back in 2018 by a tiny margin, so loyal members of Team Trick are hoping to take their revenge this year. Nintendo also announced a Super Mario-themed Splatfest is happening in January, so Splatoween is a welcome challenge in the interim.

Whether you are new to Splatoween or a returning player, there will be plenty to enjoy. The event begins on October 30, 15:00 PT / 23:00 BST and ends November 1, 14:00 PT / 22:00 BST. Make sure you keep up with everything Nintendo by checking out our Nintendo Direct Mini updates!

Take an in-depth look at Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit

Nintendo has just released a brand new trailer for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which gives us lots more information on the different modes featured, including Grand Prix, time trial, and custom race. Grand Prix is the primary mode, and includes fun themes and many items fans will be familiar with, such as the dastardly blue shell.

We also got a good look at how you create your tracks. Set up for the game is very easy, you place the four gates down anywhere you please, then drive through the gates in numerical order to set up your track. This setup process will lead to some great creativity among players as your route can be any shape you can imagine.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 16 and is priced at $99.99 / £99.99 for a single kart, or a double pack is available in the UK for £209.99, this pack includes real-life Mario and Luigi Cap.
